He's an amazing drummer indeed. Very old school; Lots of ghost notes, lots of grooves.. Too bad those toms are always super low in the mix on Maiden tracks. Those killer tom fills should be way more audible IMHO 🙂

How can you not admire the footwork of Nicko? I do play double bass now, but I learned everything maiden on a single pedal, when I was a kid I had an , 8,10,12,13,14,15,16&18 tom set up, a 22x16 bass and a 14x7 snare, I spent two years drumming to the maiden stuff, at the four hours five days a week. I loved it, maiden stuff is embedded in my memory when I'm behind the kit.

First Maiden show I went to (Manchester Apollo, '98, Virtual 11 Tour), we met Nicko and a friend travelling up from Euston. He is a lovely fella, got us backstage. We were 18 and very overawed, got autographs and left. As a drummer I wished I'd had a chat eith him after the show. We'd just met our heroes though! Never forget it.

It’s interesting to hear it isolated. Makes it easy to hear that his energy is a little loose around the edges... Love ‘ol Nicko.

I've always wondered where in their songs he would change the ride. Now here's one example. After the first chorus the difference is clear. I was also surprised with the ghost notes on the snare!

ohhh myyy gaaaawD, i am LMAO, i hope Metallica and all Metallica fans read this (who are in total denial) bcz it's so true, better still, when are they going to fire him? if they can fire Dave Mustaine, which was the best thing that happened to Metallica and could have been greater with Mustain as a member, which they had no problem doing so hastily, what the fuck is the hold up in firing Lars, the worst thing that happened to Metallica by keeping him. 🤔🤣🤫

This is way more than a galloping style (for sure there is also that precisely kind of feel) in my opinion and obviously also about the bass line . If I say correctly there is nuance and heavy swinging style , 'use of space' like i learned from others . I want to clarify the galloping groove is cool but there is also other to appreciate

@@TimothySchulting Eh I disagree about Nicko. In my opinion the way he drums is far better than Clive's, and Clive's was much more simple than Nicko's. Clive was great but Nicko brought the band to a whole new level.
@AlmostYearly4 жыл бұрын
@@nate-ds9tg Nope, Timothy Schulting was correct. Loose is not good for this type of music, tight and simple is. Sometimes McBrain sounds like he dropped his drums down the stairs. He could never get the tight punch you hear on Killers and Beast.

@@AlmostYearly Cool, its just my opinion.
@AlmostYearly4 жыл бұрын
@@nate-ds9tg Heh, you don't see that all the time in YT comments sections, good going . I just think, look, Steve Harris is clattering around on those bass strings, he's not gonna look so straight on a waveform himself, so surely it's better to have a rock solid drummer with that, rather than a drummer who's also clattering around.
