Tony Stark was indeed aware of Captain America at the time of Iron Man. There's a line in Civil War that's something along the lines of "My father always mentioned that he knew you. God, I hated you."

Tony knew all about Captain America because his Dad talked about him all the time. This is referenced a few times in other films. So the shield was probably just an Easter egg originally but in terms of the universe it could have just been another prototype shield Howard Stark had worked on. Great review even, if I completely disagree with Tim on the pacing! Can't wait to see more!

Tony knows who Cap is. He mentions this to him in Avengers, in regards to his father, Howard, never shutting up about him. He has no choice but to know who Cap is. His father is a co creator of "Cap". Cap's not "fictional" in the MCU world. He's pretty much known in the MCU. Also, the Shield isn't a real shield. It's a prototype. Cap's real shield is frozen with him in the Valkyrie in the Arctic.

I understand scheduling is very difficult but man this series would have been good as a watch along where we just hit play at the same time. I watched Iron Man yesterday and it's easy to forget how many great moments this movie has after all the other MCU films to date. Even after having Iron Man in so many films just him picking the colors, the first flight, shooting the tank, saying "I am Iron Man" at the end...I was giddy every single time! This review was good. I love how long it was and can see it getting better after a couple of episodes.

Just a note about Tony knowing cap and having a prototype shield. Tony states in CA: Civil War that his dad Howard would talk about knowing Steve “all the time”, so much that it annoyed Tony. My theory is that the shield we see is Tony’s attempt to make a cap shield himself. The real vibranium cap shield being frozen with Steve at this time means it’s not the actual shield. Oh, and I love this idea for this series. Can’t wait to watch them all!

So I also rewatched the movie and after roughly 10 years and have found a new appreciation for the movie. Back in the day, I actually watched the movie when it came out on DVD half a year later (as well as The Incredible Hulk) and I liked the reality-based approach that it had compared to other movies at the time like the X-Men, Spider-Man or the Batman movies. It was a movie that tried to explain a superhero from a real world perspective and tries to reason how a super-rich, super-intelligent billionaire, playboy, philantropist devotes his time and money to create this superhero identity of Iron Man... and this is beautifully captured in this one scene where he sees the rocket with the Stark Industry logo exploding in front of him, cut to his face and you see this simple WTF expression of RDJ... He sees that others can exploit and steal the creations that he has invented and use it for evil things and he has to step up his game to counter his previous ideas, thus resulting in him creating the Iron Man suit... Comparing that to his DC counterpart, i.e. Batman, who is basically the person because he saw his parents being killed by some random criminal in a back alley... but in the initial creation moment, I don't get why he would need to build a Batcave, Batmobile, Batwing, or other Bat-Tech thingy to counter a certain enemy, I mean he could just rely on doing some crossfit and that's it. Also, I would totally get a Batman v Superman situation where Batman would have been a small by-night vigilante until he sees someone like Superman appearing and thinking to himself: Well, this thing that I have been doing for the last 20 years or so was working for low-level guys like the Joker or Penguin, but I am instantly dead against an alien being such as this, so THEN he would build a Batcave, Batmobile or Batwing. But that's just me. Otherwise I love Batman :-) If I think about it, that's basically the main idea why Spider-Man: Homecoming worked as a movie and the Vulture worked as an awesome villain. Peter Parker just happens to have some superpowers but he also boosts them up with his own inventions like spider-webs. And when he gets this big toolbox from Tony Stark, i.e. his suit, he tries to get to know each and every detail of it. Same on the other side, when Adrian Toomes needs to step up his game in order to compete against the Iron Mens, the Thors and Hulks of this world, by stealing and reverse-engineering Chitauri technology, because that's what everybody is trying to do from now on in this world. This is what Toomes also seperates from Obadiah Stane. The twist in the middle of the movie does not make much sense in hindsight, where he has been a father-figure for most of the movie until you see him basically become the guy who has been starting this whole chain of events because he wanted to gain control over the company by killing Tony Stark by means of leaking military information and weapons to terrorists. And I don't get why he basically commits treason just in order to become CEO with full ownership of the company. While on the other hand Toomes is the villain of the entire movie until BOOM he is the father of Peter Parker's love interest, which is a much more compelling story. Speaking of realism: back in the first movies of the MCU, the Marvel movies still had support from the military, i.e. they could shoot around real military institutions, airplanes, fighter jets... until the Avengers when they were cancelling their support because of the depiction of the military when they wanted to nuke NYC (if I remember correctly). I think this kind or realism is something that I'm missing in the current movies. They have been stretching the realms of realism so far up until today where Tony Stark would just pitch an addition to his next suit to his personal AI which would then create and build the suit for him, i.e. the sense of creation and experimentation is missing. Granted, Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming had elements of this, but it is lacking from most of the other movies, especially when they are dealing with other-worldly stuff like Guardians or Thor. Furthermore, I am a huge fan of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and this somehow feels like a prequel to Agents, where we follow the adventures of Agent Coulson and this somehow has Tony Stark as a special guest star in it... But I think that's just me :-) Also shout out to the awesome soundtrack of Ramin Djawadi (who also happens to be the composer of Game of Thrones, etc.), I really liked that metal influence in the score that I somewhat missed in the following movies, where it was just being replaced by random inserts of AC/DC. God, that post went on far too long, so I should stop now. But keep up those reviews, and I really, really liked that post-credit scene :-)

Winter Soldier is still the MCUs best, but my god is Iron Man still a triumph! Feige did have this giagantic and ambitious plan, and started with an, at the time, B-list hero who was probably the least known among the 4 main avengers. That's nuts! People now love to (understandably) talk about Diana and Steve's relationship in WW, but Iron Man did it before them 10 years ago. They just nailed it. Just a great movie all around. The score, visuals, action, and character development are all outstanding.

Iron Man and Captain America were the most popular Avengers. Arguably, he was the most popular during the 80's and 90's, because his character went through less retcons than Captain America. Check your facts.

EgocentricHead I know this is last is late and all but I think Thor and hulk were the more popular one cause back then it was Spider-Manas number one, hulk number two, and wolverine number three then Thor captain America and then Ironman in tow hence why the trinity through popularity was Spider-Man, hulk, and wolverine

Hey, since you guys don't do many movie review series, I would suggest maybe taking a page out of a podcast that has been going for years called "Now Playing." You all can even shout them out for credit. But basically, I think it helps if you have someone read an in depth plot summary first. It seems the host of this show is Nick, so before the tangents and such happen, Nick could read through the entire plot summary for people that haven't seen the movies and the middle of the show could be you all discussing specific sequences, like you did. Then the interesting facts and such could follow at the end. I think organization like that would make the discussion just a tad bit more coherent. Thanks for the content guys!
