Two reasons to watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: 1. It's got Powers Boothe as a major villain lmao 2. The show runs concurrent to this movie around Season 1, episode 14 and the tone shifts DRASTICALLY. It gets arguably darker than this movie and for the better. Characters you love and trusted turn out to be Hydra. The whole show takes a big leap in quality and continues to with each season.

Finally! By far the best movie in the MCU. This is the one that made me adore Cap. I'll never forget sitting in the theater and knowing I was in for something special once I saw that opening scene. And that scene with Peggy... My god I get choked up every time. And no one talks about this moment, but the scene where Sam asks Steve what makes him happy and Steve has no answer....it kills me. Evans owns the role. Best action and writing in the MCU, which makes me have full faith in the Russo's directing Infinity War

Ewan Callister, nah I think Civil War has better moments (Airport fight scene, final fight), but I think Winter Soldier is a better product overall due to its tighter story. Regardless, the Russo's are the best the MCU has to offer.

Yea. Winter Soldier is EASILY the better movie overall, but Civil War does SO MANY little things to really emphasize the greatness of Winter Soldier and just retroactively make it EVEN BETTER. Steve getting the call about Peggy's death and collapsing to his knees because of it is a punch in the gut. Sharon echoing Peggy (and Cap's own speech from the comics) and telling Cap the EXACT thing he needs to hear as he's in a moment of complete existential crisis, lost, and alone. Of course Sharon was the cute nurse next door that he flirted with in their apartment, while not knowing that she was secretly a hero in her own right and watching his back, and here we find out that Steve himself was her lifelong hero and one of her inspirations.....and now since he finally knows her secret she doesn't have to turn him down, she can do more than just flirt, so she's FINALLY someone he can just be with outright. She's one of the only women in the world equipped to handle the reality of Captain America. She's one of the only 2 people in the world that Cap can really trust. Falcon, and Sharon. Bucky is still broken and messed up at this point, Peggy is dead, all his family and friends are lost to time or war, the Avengers are at war with each other, Black Widow is a friend...but she's Black Widow and hard to trust in general.... And all that ONLY works because Sharon was the cute nurse next door that he flirted with in the hallways of their apartment building, who turned out to be the badass watching his back and ready to instantly and unquestioningly join him in his battle against HYDRA, trusting him over all these supposed SHIELD agents she had been working with for YEARS. And then of course Bucky and Falcon crammed in the little car when Cap FINALLY gets the girl.... PRICELESS. Not just because they're his friends, but because they started out as enemies, and Falcon has been hunting Bucky, and they really don't know or trust each other, and they don't seem to get along.....but ultimately, BECAUSE they're Steve's best friends, that automatically puts them on the same page where none of that other shit matters, and suddenly they're cool with each other because they're both so damn proud of him. XD Fucking genius character developments. And Stark finding out Bucky killed his parents.... Brutal. And all the dead Winter Soldiers..... Yeesh.

Either there's a deleted scene or it was in the original script it was said that his suit was being tracked by Hydra/SHIELD. That's why he stole his other suit from the Smithsonian.

I don't really agree with you here. I think the plan for AoS all along was to deal with this Hydra-Shield thing, because that's where it really finds it's stride and gets good. It didn't so much save it as it did make it. The problem is for that to have impact you have to be familiar with the characters and so they need things to happen that get you used to the characters and their dynamics until they're ready to tie it in with the film and pull that surprise. It was these things that were a bit naff.

Just rewatched the movie on D+ I love that the DVD extras are available too... there is a deleted scene that is showing Caps current uniform dumped at a random gym because it had a tracker. Thats why he needed his original suit from Smithsonian

THIS is my favorite movie in the MCU. Well done, gents; the number 1 spot is well deserved. Tim, I didn't call out the setup of the opening scene in Agents of Shield. There was an episode in season one (the season nobody really likes to mention) where Agent Sitwell (bald guy with the glasses for those who don't remember names well) was meeting with Victoria Hand and before leaving her, he said he needed to go catch a ride it to the Lumarin Star. This was right before all he'll broke loose with hydra and changed the show (for the better). It's crazy thinking about who was hydra, and going back prior to the reveal to see what they were doing, then thinking about how what they were doing may have been helping hydra. Also related to Agents of Shield, Agent Fitz made the device that Nick Fury used to cut his way out of the attack from Winter Soldier. Just some little Easter eggs on the far side of the MCU.

Arguably the best film in the MCU I've seen in theaters that gave me a sense of excitement only matched by The Avengers! I even believe that the action scenes and character/story suspense are on par with The Dark Knight and that's coming from a Batman movie fan. It just shows how talented the Russo Bros. are good at leading the MCU's story arc with Cap at the forefront. Great review and looking forward to seeing Kinda Funny's Avengers 2, Civil War and Ragnarok reviews.

Gotta say, you guys might claim this is the MCU in review, but it's not. You're not reviewing "ALL" of the MCU, because Agents of SHIELD and the Netflix shows and Agent Carter count towards it, and have small bits of information. Like who J.A.R.V.I.S. was based off of. Or that Powers Booth, the guy you mentioned in this review, from Avengers 1, actually is Gideon Malick and a major HYDRA leader. He was great in Agents of SHIELD, and yes, YOU GUYS ARE MISSING IT. Powers Booth's character did actually return in Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where it turns it out that he was the head of a faction of HYDRA. EDIT: Additionally, SLJ appeared in the Season 1 finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Avengers: Age of Ultron. This wasn't his last appearance. He is also confirmed for Captain Marvel. Also Cap did ditch his stealth suit in a gym to through HYDRA off as his suit had a tracker, in a deleted scene.

Little late to the party on this, but I just wanted to add a couple comments. I do remember when the boys ranked the MCU movies on GameOverGreggy and Cap 2 was ranked low IMO. This movie has it all. It does not feel dry at any point and develops the story so well throughout. The action is, arguably, the best in the MCU. Regardless, I am so happy that things have changed since the boys watched it. Awesome episode gents!

as a stand alone movie, Winter Soldier IS..better than The Avengers 1...but, if you consider all the components..the risks...the CHALLENGES each movie faced...i still gotta give it to The Avengers. Whedon just had an almost impossible task making Avengers what it is. and he's all on his own. The Russos are TWO men, and they got TWO co-writers... Joss...ALL HIM. which is also why I'm so pissed at people, of late, dissing him, making fun of him, just talking shit bout him for Age of Ultron..for tryinna fix the UNFIXABLE Zack Snyder's Justice League... if anyone can tell me somebody else who can pull off The Avengers like Joss did all on his/her own...let me know... cuz just for that movie, I still think the guy's a mother fuckin' GENIUS.

Easier than just you on your loneself... and, i ain't talkin' bout just ANY group of writers...i'm talkin' bout writing team..WITH history..track records, LIKE McFeely-Markum (Markum or Markus..?) Joss, as great as he is..being a solo act, is more prone to mistakes or oversights..since he's only got HIS own perspective on the script.. and tend to be MORE defensive, even combative..once his work is under review by others..hence, Age of Ultron. Working with somebody else, who ARE in tune or in sync with you DOES help. not only it lessens your workload, it also gives you the much needed first hand critique and comments on your work..and vice versa. in addition to that, you got two directors who ARE brothers (who MUST be in each other's frequency, otherwise...they WON'T be working together for so long...), who compliments each other's weaknesses and strengths..and can dispense times to work with the both or each of you... M not talkin bout working in a committee..but little SOLID teams...THAT is almost always better than just going solo. however...i understand the progress from Whedon to the Russos...due to the whole SCOPE of the stories and characters involved... so KUDOS to all of them MCU wonder moviemakers for keep giving us GOLD.
