About Iron Maiden:
Iron Maiden are an institution. Over the course of 44 years they have come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence, ferocious dedication to their fans, and a cheerful indifference to their critics that’s won them a following that spans every culture, generation, and time-zone. A story of gritty determination and courageous defiance of the naysayers, theirs has been an adventure like no other.
The band’s immense discography includes the studio albums ‘The Number Of The Beast’, ‘Piece Of Mind’, ‘Powerslave, ‘Somewhere In Time’, ‘Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son’, ‘Fear Of The Dark’, ‘The Final Frontier’ and ‘The Book Of Souls’which have spawned many classic hits as ‘The Trooper’, ‘Wasted Years’, ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’, ‘Wasting Love’, ‘Run To The Hills’, ‘Aces High’, ‘Rime Of The Ancient Mariner’ and ‘2 Minutes to Midnight’.

I still remember the first time I heard this song. It was September of 2021 and we were traveling as a family to the ranch, seemingly in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. We started playing Senjutsu to finish it as we arrived at the ranch just right after midnight. The song began to play just as we left the highway and entered a dirt road connected to the ranch. All five of us fell into a deep silence in the middle of nowhere, in complete darkness, with no sound but the notes of this melody. As the song ended, my father broke the silence with a simple "wow." I nodded in agreement. As we arrived, I tried to remember the first time I listened to Iron Maiden. My memories of a Sunday morning when I was around 10 years old (Now I am 30), sitting in the backyard after breakfast, came flooding back. I recall my dad turning on the CD player and listening to "Running Free." and since then, it started being my favorite band. The band had evolved since then, and they aged very well. I thought that If Iron Maiden never released another album, this song would be the perfect way to conclude almost 50 years of career.

Been listening to this album on repeat for way too long to be healthy. Think it may have become my favourite Maiden album, and Hell on Earth has become my favourite Maiden song. Run to the Hills was my first Maiden purchase, back in 1982, but I prefer the later albums, especially Brave New World, Final Frontier, and now Senjutsu. Controversial to many Maiden fans I know, but I like what I like.

They are a great band and exceptional live performers to be able to share with the next generation. I took my sixteen-year-old son to see them in Detroit in October. It wasn't my first IM concert, but it was his. We were both blown away. These guys keep sounding brilliant year after year. I wish they would have played Hell on Earth during this tour, as it is my favorite from the Senjutsu album, but the show was absolutely stellar nonetheless. Maybe on the next tour (fingers crossed). Hoping for some material from Seventh Son on the next tour as well.

Some people here don't understand, that a sign of a group such brilliant as Iron Maiden is, that they will never remain stuck with something. They evolve. So don't seek the 80's, this ist '21 (and further), and they still remain a class for their own - or, as I read otherwhere: this is not Heavy Metal, this is Iron Maiden!

(Lyrics) Beginning of a sunrise bores a big hole in the sky Not to reason why that armed children are in this world And fighting in the name of God's way Mourning bleak and utter waste The vanity of the world is assured now Prey upon the weak no more The spirits of those who are gone Propaganda of the battles That are lost or won And count your blessings still alive Of those who managed to survive Inside oblivion of that hell on Earth All you have been, all you have seen Lost in somewhere in your dreams How the angels they have fallen All is nothing what it seems And the voices that you hear now And the voices in your head Now are thinking of a lifetime You can never feel again I wish I could go back I'll never be the same again Bled for all upon this hell on Earth And when I leave this world I hope to see you all again On the other side of hell on Earth Upon the eyes of good I'm following the light again In between the dark of hell on Earth On the other side, I'll see again in heaven So far away from this hell on Earth You dance on the graves who bled for us Do you really think they'll come for us? Knowledge and virtue, taken by lust Live on the edge of those that you trust You think that you have all the answers for all In your arrogant way only one way to fall Burning a lamp that is fire in your hands Taking you further from these lands Love in anger, life in danger Lost in anger, life in danger Love in anger, life in danger Lost in anger, life in danger UP THE IRONS!!!!!

The year was 1980. I was just on the verge of becoming a teenager. I had $10 of grass cutting money in my pocket and was heading to the record store to see if there was a new Black Sabbath album I could add to my sparse collection. I knew the store well, I had practically worn a path to the “Heavy Metal” section. As I flipped through the album covers, I didn’t find anything that I didn’t already own from BS., and I kept on flipping. Then, suddenly I got by the Iron Butterfly section and there, staring at me with the most gruesome, soul ripping stare, was Eddie. My first reaction was, “wow, that’ll piss Mom off”. The price was good , $9.99 iirc, and the owner knew me as a steady customer and let the taxes slide. I practically ran home to put my new find on the record player. From the very first bars of Prowler, I knew I was hooked! Here we are 40yrs later and I’m still as much of a hardcore fan as I ever was! As I am writing this my Mom is in a hospital room, holding my Father’s hand as he slips the bonds of this life. It has been a brutal 11 month battle, watching my Dad try to recover from falling off the shed and breaking his neck. But, he will soon be out of pain and resting peacefully. I just know in my heart that Clive is there with a pair of sticks, holding a guitar for my Dad. Rock in Peace Dad, I love you!! And as for my Mom, when she saw Eddie on my album cover, all she said was “he looks like he needs a good meal, and a bit of a haircut.”God bless’r. Thank you for helping me through this darkest hour. I haven’t needed the Iron’s more!! UP THE IRONS \m/, ,\m/ (I know this was a long one, and if you made it to the end, drop what you are doing and go tell whomever you have in your life that you love them, before you can’t anymore).

A year and four months later, and I still get emotional listening to this song. I was just blown away the first time I heard it. Everything about it is a masterpiece - the intro has a way of hypnotizing me, Bruce’s vocals are so full of raw emotion and anger (“love in ANGER,”) the guitar solos are just stunning (I literally gasped in shock the first time I heard Dave’s solo,) and the gorgeous guitar harmonies. This song doesn’t get old no matter how many times I hear it. This isn’t just my favorite song on the album, but my favorite Maiden song of all time.

Meh. Boring album, TOO DAMN SLOW. This is worse than X Factor, not a single great guitar riff, especially the classic double harmonics that made Iron Maiden become what it is. Which is astonishing considering they have like 6 guitars. It sounds more like Celtic music or something, not heavy metal. And especially not Japanese.

Hell on Earth is a piece that lasts 11.19 minutes and not a second is left over. Time passes, you will not look at the clock to know when it is over, but you will be wishing it never ends. Because it will raise your mood; because it is epic; it is melodic and triumphant. You were born to win! The melody pauses and speeds up when appropriate: "love in anger, life in danger" "love with anger, life in danger". It is the best conclusion for Senjutsu. It is reminiscent of The Final Frontier, "When the Wind Blows." But it is not a rehash. It's new, it's original and authentic from minute one.

In my opinion, it's much better than When the Wild Wind Blows. I appreciate the latter song for its emotional appeal, and it felt appropriate for a closer, but this track is much darker and heavier. For Maiden's style, I have yet to see that not be a good thing.

Occasionally, a band writes a masterpiece that just has that "last song of the night" feel. It just soars, musically and lyrically. It makes you think about life. It touches your heart. Feel for you. My grandfather also has dementia fairly bad at this point, and recently ended up in the hospital for other reasons. Anyway, not sure how long it will be now, and it's been on my mind. Somehow this song had exactly the same effect for me. Not sure what even made me scroll down to the comments... but this was right at the top. On a side note, this was one of those songs that didn't click when the album released. It was only a bit later.

@@DavidSmith-xi6sp My condolences and I hope you're still going strong. There will be a time when your grandfather no longer is with us, but just remember to talk to your loved ones about him whenever you feel like it (and the dementia), it really helps. I also clicked on this a bit later, my first was The Writing on the Wall, but this and Lost in a Lost World are two of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Dementia really is a horrible disease.

Maiden fans are a different breed. I know, I am one. I my darkest moments on this earth, I listened to Maiden. In my best moments, they were playing. In the year of turmoil we've all had, they were my constant soundtrack. As a kid, not knowing how the world worked, the idea of liking a band so much was weird. It's been 20 years now, and Iron Maiden have been the only constant in my life, and I know that's true for countless others. Hell on Earth is almost a summation of everything they, and we, stand for. TL/DR: great song.

HELLO TO ALL MY BLOOD BROTHERS ACROSS THE WORLD FROM SOUTH WALES, UK. I've been a fan since The Number Of The Beast came out in 1982...I was 11 years old at the time. I'm 50 now, and like you, they have been the 1 constant thing in my life. Through good times and bad, Maiden have always been there for me. They were number 1 in the UK charts the week my son was born with Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter. I took my 6 year old daughter to see them on the X Factour and she absolutely loved that gig. And now we have SENJUTSU which is a fantastic album. I really hope they have another 4 or 5 albums left in them before they decide to hang it up for good. UP THE IRONS.

If Senjutsu didn't come out, their last song would have been Empire of the Clouds which was also an incredible ending for their career ("The dreamers may die, but the dream lives on"). Now there's Hell on Earth, another fitting finale for a band... But at this point I know that a 18th album would not have a disappointing ending, so their legacy (heh) wouldn't be tarnished... Bring it on! (more likely than we think, since Senjutsu is already 2 years old they might have already some ideas for their next album)

"Hell On Earth" Beginning of a sunrise bores a big hole in the sky Not to reason why that Armed children are in this world And fighting in the name of god's way Mourning bleak and utter waste The vanity of the world is assured now Prey upon the weak no more The spirits of those who are gone Propaganda of the battles That are lost or won And count your blessings still alive Of those who managed to survive Inside oblivion of that hell on earth All you have been, all you have seen Lost in somewhere in your dreams How the angels they have fallen All is nothing what it seems In the voices that you hear now In the voices in your head Now are thinking of a lifetime You can never feel again I wish I could go back Will never be the same again Bled for all upon this hell on earth And when I leave this world I hope to see you all again On the other side of hell on earth Upon the eyes of good I'm following the light again In between the dark of hell on earth On the other side, I'll see again heaven So far away from this hell on earth You dance on the graves who bled for us Do you really think they'll come for us Knowledge and virtue taken by lust Live on the edge of those that you trust You think that you have all the answers for all In your arrogant way only one way to fall Burning a lamp that is fire in your hands Taking you further from these lands Love in anger, life in danger Love in anger, life in danger Love in anger, life in danger Love in anger, life in danger

But it doesn't have to be, we can listen to those albums if we want fast paced 80s Maiden. But this album along with Book of Souls are perfect examples of a band that keeps expanding and evolving. Many people want Maiden to go back to writing fast-paced, 4-5 minutes heavy metal anthems like they did in the 80s. I'm not one of those people. Like you said: If we want to hear fast Maiden the 80s albums are there for us to enjoy. Maiden of today doesn't write that type of music. They have evolved and it's a pleasure to follow them expand their musical horizons. I can't think of one legacy band that is still around that has aged as well as Iron Maiden. There is a sense of maturity and musical growth in latter day Maiden that I think only Rush have been able to compete with. I know it's the norm to talk about the 7 classic 80s albums when it comes to Maiden, but as far as I'm concerned, the 6 reunion albums are equally as valid when it comes to the band's legacy.

"The plan we've got - it's not really a secret; I think everybody else has chatted about it - we will, I hope, we've talked about doing the entire [Senjutsu] album start to finish, but not this time around," the singer said (transcription via Blabbermouth) on the Talk Is Jericho podcast hosted by AEW superstar and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho. Dickinson understood that the full album set may not be the most attractive concert option for fans and noted, "And we all appreciate that that is something that really diehard fans will probably love and other people will go, 'Hmmm, I'm not going to go see that.' So the answer is you play smaller venues so that they sell out with just your diehard fans. Because it's a musical thing to do - it's a musical thing."

Listen with headphones and your eyes closed. You will then realize it’s a complete masterpiece. Saw them in 83 and I Can’t believe we have to wait till 2023 to see them live again

nonstrop repeat 5:19 and I'm crying every time I hear this chorus masterpiece: "I wish I could go back I'll never be the same again Bled for all upon this hell on Earth And when I leave this world I hope to see you all again On the other side of hell on Earth Upon the eyes of good I'm following the light again In between the dark of hell on Earth On the other side, I'll see again in heaven So far away from this hell on Earth"

Funny how Maiden songs often have chorus that repeat often, yet here is this amazing song with this great chorus and they only do it once...

I love this song. The melody, the vocals, the solo parts, the atmosphere, the feels. I just feel warm and happy inside thanks to Iron Maiden. With everything what's happening around us I'm just lucky enough to take a moment and appreciate this wonderful piece of music. Thank you Iron Maiden!

The build up from the beginning of this song is simply amazing. From soft guitar tunes to what Iron Maiden is known for, excellent guitar riffs, solos and Bruce's legendary voice. This band will never sound bad in my ears, it's pure magic what they still can do after all these years. Up the Irons from Sweden!

They've done this buildup from soft guitars so many times before though. It gets boring after a while but I guess Steve needs his clean intro.

@@DM-rc4yu It makes the songs feel like actual, entire books or a whole movie when it's parted down with intros, themes, a musical motif. It's truly like entering a new world when realizing the content as a whole. The contemplation of life persists here; where you know it in your soul that the Earth we live on is one of the most bitter, dark and depressing lands to exist. Steve Harris clearly outlines what it's like to stare into the abyss and acknowledge you just really want to pass on and yet somehow have gratitude, rather than have a deep complacency of holding the one "answer" to all the woes on Earth.
