But don't OVERhydrate. One of my athletes ( a 50+ age group contender) drank too much, and had waterpoisoning in Kona last year. He finished, but was sent to hospital for a couple of days..
@heikkisanelma66257 жыл бұрын
was it due to to much h20 and too little sodium? its not enough to hydrate if the relative amount of sodium and other important minerals get too low..
@ironmantooltime7 жыл бұрын
Heikki Sanelma right, i had to revert from a previous low salt diet due to too many cramps. i took salt tabs for ironman. just testing now if cutting out booze is a factor...

Well done Heather, fascinating stuff. This vlog does more to promote the sport (and channel) than anything I've seen, bringing your personality and a sense of realism in watching someone you "know" compete. More please!

I just ran 7k in 38:45...the times and distances these iron men (and women) run, bike and swim in training and comp are superhuman for 99% of the population and continue to amaze me. Although I will never get close to your levels, Heather and Mark, and all the GTN guys. you are my inspiration that drives me to improve every day - thank you

@Heather!, I am so excited for you. I remember the first times I did 70.3 & off course my first Ironman @Klagenfort (Austria 2016). I Love the 70.3k race, it's an ultimate race in my opinion. but the 140.2k is one AMAZING and AWESOME adventure! (I'm doing Klagenfort again in 2019...) I sure will follow your vlog of your races! it's so cool! In a few days I'm starting my own vlog of the road to Ironman... hope you'll follow too when it will be on air! Goodluck on Kona! It's Going to be---- Legendary!!!

I'm 15 and want to get into triathlon, I have been cycling since I was 4 and racing since I was 12. Recently I got a bad sprain and just after that broke my toe today and still have a bit of recovery on that, but Heather you are just so inspiring and keep me exited for when I can ride again.

Don't get me wrong you always do a great job on camera but that was the most unfiltered, natural you! I also like the fact you dropped a curse in there!!! Well done Girlie and best of luck in Kona!!!!!

Regarding the bike check - I never checked the rear wheel before any of the 10 races I'd done. Changed my habit two days ago before my 11th race, doing a last minute check at the car. Lo and behold, the tyre was rubbing the frame. Quick adjustment and we're set. Lucky me.

wow I would be happy with a 1:37 half marathon in a half ironman, that is my PB but for a half marathon alone. Great job Heather, but hey, that’s why you’re qualified for Kona ! Have a great recovery, hope you’ll get to spend some good time in Hawaii
@xGshikamaru7 жыл бұрын
rskng well, 1'37 equals to 4'36 for a half marathon, which is a very good time. Even being just shy of 5 hours total is a very good time, many senior men would like a time like this, and in such a hilly course. As far as full IM time it's true many male age groupers tend to qualify with a sub10 time, but for women it's a pretty strong performance. BTW this year at IM Nice male in the 45-49 category even qualified with an 11 hour time (admittedly because of a great rolldown).
@knight1boner7 жыл бұрын
Wow, you must be one of the top women in the sport... I assume you are a woman since you are criticizing her qualifying time so specifically. All bow to rskng.... Thank you for gracing us with your commentary.

The hills here in Kona (at least the ones you will be on) aren't as long or as steep as the ones you did in Chatt. The swim is the best part of the day (enjoy watching all the fish, the dolphins have been scarce recently). On the bike, three things are guaranteed: There will be a head wind, The hottest part of the course is the climb up out of Kawaihae, and The most dangerous part is the ride down from Hawi (side gusts coming from the left to the right). On the run, it will be hot on the Queen K and the hill up from Makala to Palani never seems to end. Good luck and welcome to our Island.

That's why I like finishing near the bottom of the pack in all my tris. If you finish in or near the top ten, you spend a lot of time wondering what you could have done better, training super hard to improve. If you're like me, you just concentrate on having fun and getting some exercise. Plus, the cheering is always loudest for the last group of people because everyone else has already finished!

Please do as many of these as you're capable. They are so honest and valuable. Your frustration with being 11th and not 10th in your division is the same emotion that drives us to train to crack a goal. Interested which non-athletic skills you find yourself using from your pentathlon background.
@bikeanddogtripsvirtualcycling7 жыл бұрын
great race Heather, you should be proud. from my personal experience (running and cycling) i began to improve a lot in both speed and stamina when I cut out all meat and dairy from my diet and went completely vegan which allowed my body to process the foods i eat more easily. I have found that eating a lot of beetroot daily from around 3 weeks prior to a race and having an avocado every day (except the day before) helps a lot with my endurance. I cant stand the taste of beetroot or avocado though, so they go in to a smoothie with bananas, mixed berries, mixed nuts and seeds, spinach and spirulina. one more thing. every single kom or pb on strava that i ever managed (after reaching a plateau) has been from replacing water hydration with coconut water. Coconut water tends to hydrate more than normal h2o even with salt tabs. I'm a little bit too old an inexperienced to be good, but you, Heather, are young enough and able enough to be great. Your Kona time will be sub 11 hours and you will be within the top 6 female athletes. Perhaps you should take Si from GCN with you to be your bike mechanic. rambling over. enjoy your weekend
