I cannot over state how effective his system is. I shot with him at ETAR (and he is an awesome shot too) and he has helped me go from hoping to hit the target, to expecting to hit a 10 or 12! That is how much of a difference he has made in my shooting.

I didn't learn anything about how to beat 8 years of target panic just now. however this is the best approach iv ever come across, everyone always has the way that worked for them or gives roundabout answers. opening your video with sayin you were controlled by tp for more than twice as long as me, sure did help me listen to what you were sayin. thank you for posting, we will be in touch.

I have target panic since i shot a bow (15 years) Now i hope with the instruction in your book, to change it. I come from Germany and try to read it (english is not my favorite language) and hope i can release brakes in my head an become a full draw and the complet control. Thank you Joel

This video has helped my shooting more than anything else. I've read countless articles, books, watched Olympic recurve shooters and still I struggled. I would draw back, anchor and get a great sight picture but I would be aiming at something I couldn't shoot; a wall or tree. Sometimes I'd take the shot, destroying the arrow, but what great shots they were- absolutely perfect. My mind was playing tricks on me. Joel's advise has elevated my trad shooting, improved my compound groups and even helped my rifle shooting.

I am new to archery and have watched a lot of Y/T vids and yes, I have learned from others but what has most helped me has been your release/trigger control info. The anxiety of the release has gone way. Thanks

dear ppl: pls stop shooting at the range. If you drive to the range, you are going to shoot too many shots. If you can't even do one shot right, why the fuck are you doing 100 shots at the range? Just shoot 2 or 3 shots; and by gully you better make those shots count. Do only the correct shots. So, get a bag target and shoot in the hall way of your 180 sq ft house or in the yard. one or two shots with the correct shot sequence and finger shooting activation (expansioin of the chest and rotation of the pulling elbow that extends the bow arm) is all you are looking for. It should be the only thing you are looking for. Compared to shooting 100 shots of crap, 2 or 3 shots every few hours is more desirable. thx.

thank you so much! my words i say outload "do not let go" i also drop from 50lb bow to 40lb so it is easier to hold my anchor. iwas letting six arrows go before most people at the range shot 2...i have developed sucha bad habit that i had to start all over again. i still struggle with back tension but i am rolling J from now on. i found you on the 3D archery channel. i believe in your system

Great video, Joel. Saw Joel's seminar at the Kalamazoo Trad Bowhunters Expo 2016 - great shooter and very logical. Went out and bought a clicker and working on "closed loop" thinking thanks to Joel. Thanks for the great content, Joel!

I agree with you on this topic, Joel. I was at one time a competitive shotgun shooter and won the gold medal for Sporting Clays at the 1994 Police and Fire Games in Portland. I took the silver in Skeet also that year. My coaches were Chuck and Matt Drike in Sequim. (Matt won the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain). After several hundred rounds I no longer saw my shotgun barrel or felt the recoil of the gun (so it could be ignored). It is a mental game and it takes lots of practice. One thing that cannot be simulated before a competition is fatigue (usually not an issue with hunting). In a world class sporting event one shoots hundreds of shots in a single day (480). The only way to train for that is to shoot hundreds of shots every day. The body builds itself up to ignore fatigue but only to a certain point... and a little more each time you practice. Competitions really yanked my crank so to speak. Chuck Drike had me shooting 500 rounds in the morning and 500 in the afternoon.... then he sent me home with dry fire exercises. The winners of those competitions are not the ones who hit the targets, it is the ones who miss the least number of times. A subtle difference. Now that I am retired, I shoot bare bow just for the fun of it. I no longer compete and the bow makes a lot less noise than my beloved shotgun. It still yanks my crank. Iggy

Branden, this is a video that exposes the core problem of shooting. The psychological trigger that you see me utilizing on the front of my grip is only a small piece to the puzzle of understanding the science of how to truly get out of target panic. Check out my website for more info.

Hi Joel just a quick question, how/were did you make/buy the "clicker" that is on your bow, I think it's cool and really want too try it :)

Joel I was listening to this while running the water truck. You came to an end then silence for a couple seconds. I'm backing the truck up and thump you apparently release an arrow lol. I lock up the brakes thinking I ran something over. So I was not focused on the shot it was on my driving lol.

Dude you just said that new archers are cognitively involved with every stage of their shot. I'm having target panic. When I was a new archer I just shot and the arrows were pretty dead on. Like people patted me on the back and what not. As I've tried to improve my form, my draw length, consistency, etc., I've become worse and worse over the last two years, to the point that I no longer want to shoot. Why was I a monster when I first started...with a 55 lb. bow, and now having dropped all the way back to 35 to work on mechanics, am I a train wreck? I'm losing my mind man. Whatever I did without any instruction at all worked but then I started listening to people and it just went more and more downhill every time I shot. I went from shooting other people's arrows (little contest at Rocky Mountain) to missing the bail completely.

This is a great vid. I shoot competition slingshot and have recently got into bows. I have no problem making great shots all day when I am practicing but when it comes to competition I do well but not as good as I know I can do. I find its not the pressure of people watching its more the fact that my mind is telling me that this is the round that counts so get it right. I find singing a song in my head seems to help with that pressure but I am always looking for pointers. Thanks for the video.

Great theory that makes a lot of sense I'm suffered from target panic for 30 years and when you put a whitetail in front of me it doubles can't seem to come to full draw and anchor point. By the way who made your back quiver?

Hello Joel your techniques sound very interesting to me. Do you have a course or video to learn your techniques and any more information for compound release aid shooters? I feel most of it will apply to both traditional & compound archery. I am in Canada so most likely would not be able to get to where you are to taker a course in person. any further information would be great. Thanks. Wayne

I have target panic pretty bad. I was told to draw and let down without shooting, a lot. So your mind doesn't always expect the shot. Or shoot just a couple shots a day and lighter poundage. It's like the target has a force field and I can't put the pin on it. I've tough myself to say "How am I gonna screw this shot up." Frustrated. Could totally relate to what you were saying.
