The finished piece definitely reflects the amount of effort put in making the guide pattern as perfect as possible. This is the first I've seen on what these machines are capable of.

Great job Matt & Steve, it looks factory. Carl Fisher on Make it Kustom did a firewall useing the same buck method but a different tool for the beeds, he said about 90% of the time is prep, I think you showed that as true. You guys build different style of cars but your both amazing metal workers.

Wow ! A lot of work to get there , but it all came together beautifully . The finished product is worth it , fit & finish is there . Given the time spent on the engine rebuild , & it's rarity , a removable firewall for servicing those hard-to-reach places is very important . I LOVE this car ! The whole look is just Totally Bad Ass ! That Lennox is a bit of a rodeo ride , but you have the tool figured out , & made a new fixture set for future use on making firewalls . The first drive on this "33" Ardun-powered Ford Coupe is going to be EPIC ! It may take a week to find your eye brows after that ride , Matt ! The smile on your face , may be permanent ! Thank you for walking us through this portion of fabricating a thick gauge steel panel . I can't think of a better car , or team , to pull this project off . Iron Trap Garage ROCKS ! Fantastic post guys !

It's BITCHIN!!! Great Job, guys. I've been looking forward to more work on the 3 window. For large panels like this, you might consider making a table extension for the Pull Max. I would also make a spring loaded foot to hold pressure down on the piece. I see a 3" dia. polished foot on a shaft that passes thru the mount. It would have a lever to lift the foot up off the piece and lock in place by eithe going over center or with a pawl.. I think it would make the ride less bumpy. Anyway, one step closer to seeing this blown Ardun rolling down the road. That's BITCHIN.

Turned out great! Lot of work to reproduce a part using this method, but the result speaks for itself. Couldn't help thinking as the process went along how an industrial die stamping press knocks stuff like that out a part every second or two... to reproduce the part by hand is quite an accomplishment.

Nice work on the firewall. The Ardun coupe is going to be a fast car. One heck of a lot faster than a regular Ford hotrod. That's going to make for a wild ride. It's going to need some attention to handling and brakes. I think what it most needs is lateral control of the axles. That is going to need to be a Panhard rod or a Watts linkage. I think a Watts linkage, with the arms mounted to the axle ends, and the balance arm pivoting on to the centre of the chassis might work. And some careful attention to steering geometry, and some telescopic dampers.
@danontherun5685Күн бұрын
Matt checked out an Ardun coupe in Seattle couple years ago. I've been in that car when owner/builder Jim (RIP) put it all out. I figure well north of 300HP, made me poop a little.

Left with solving long engine I went with cutting the frame at the firewall and extending the front end. I believe this was easier than dealing with the firewall. I found the most difficult bit was solving the hood tapers to cowl but stretching the front made a lot better looking car. We all prefer a long thing sticking out the front.

Actually I think that can ruin the proportions of the car personally. But to each their own.

Matt i got a good tip for you witch make the woodwork way more faster and fun Make you're degsin on a cheap plate like 6 mm mdf so you can cut it easely then use the plat as a themplete on the 18mm plate use the saw to cut but stay away from etch 1 or 2mm so you have material to cut with you're routher take a tjizzel with a bearing on the undersite of it turn you're plate upside down set the bearing on the 6mm and there you go .

They just did the (passenger side) one. Driver side head sits farther forward, so plenty of clearance on that side already.
