Hey Marlin Baits. Idea. What about a Multi-wood lure. Like Balsa for the back half, Iron Wood in the middle or belly, and another wood for the front and top of the bait. Seems difficult but if you are looking for a challenge I'd love to see it.

good idea! id actually really like to see this, maybe the iron wood in the middle could be an alternative to putting lead in the bait. the pieces of wood could probably be glued together to make one blank to work with.

Maybe Ironwood would be suitable for making a spoon type lure. There seems to be a trend these days for making large Pike spoons from non metal materials.

I used to work in a lumber mill. Ipe sucks lol pretty heavy and flexible when dealing with 20" 1x6. Gotta be carefull too that stuff was really expensive like $8,000 a unit

@MarlingBaits. Its pronounced ( E-pay) when I was a fiberglasser we worked on a house that the owner had all his decks made out of IPE planks. Big big bucks and every board had to be pre drilled and screwed with stainless steel.

A friend gave me a couple pieces of wood this exact color. A little dark, but even darker between the grains. Feels heavy too. No it's not dark oak or black walnut wood. I kept wondering what type of lure this could be used for. You enlightened me. And the idea to add the floating aspect to the top of the bait. Thanks for sharing.

That type of heavy lure would be ideal for saltwater surf fishing. It's perfect forage size , would cast well, stand up to toothy predators and would stay below the waves ( a never ending problem with lighter plastics ). Send it to someone who lives in the Outer Banks of NC for the fall redfish and striper run. Great video! Your skills are amazing.

That ironwood is a nice concept. Maybe try a "reverse" jerk bait with the bill in the front but facing backwards to lift the bait up when you jerk it. Cool video!
