Yep. The most egregious example for me was the 80's television show the A-Team with Hannibal firing an M-60 on full auto at a team of bad guys hiding behind cardboard boxes. None of the bad guys are ever hurt or injured and Hannibal never seems to be affected at all by recoil while firing at full auto!!!!!. So ludicrous. My dad and I used to watch that show and every time a scene like that would occur my dad ( a WWII veteran would be rolling on the floor laughing. That is the reason he liked the show...for all of its scenes of unintended humor.

Some sound effects are the result of dumb directors or producers insisting on the inclusion of things that they grew up with and learned to expect. They didn't understand the context. There was just an emotional connotation in their heads, and they wish to convey that same connotation to the viewers. Other times, effects techs are given free reign and they are the ones who goof, and the higher ups don't catch it.

@@reaperreaper5098 yeah, like a .22 ruger carbine with an integral suppressor that goes the whole barrel length, being fired outside, is legit very quiet on the level of hollywood sound design (I've seen other demonstrations from law enforcement training videos). of course a 9mm with external suppressor firing indoors is not particularly stealthy in real life by comparison. or when sniper rifles in movies are whisper quiet, a .308 sounding like a .22LR (and no sound barrier crack from the supersonic projectile). not to mention the lack of the loud mechanical sounds of the weapon cycling - just the slide blowback on a 9mm semi-auto is louder than movie sfx. I know I've seen suppressors accurately portrayed before but so rarely I can't remember when =/

And let's not forget the showers of sparks that come from every bullet impact, even if it's plastic car bodies, chain link fences, sheet rock walls, plate glass windows and any laboratory. Also, the stupidity of running your weapon dry then stareing at it and throwing it away! Really!!!! And the last shot fired from a semi auto and stareing at it with the slide not locked back. Or how about Clint Eastwood going into a general store that sells firearms and taking parts from different models of black powder revolvers and assembling a gun that suits his needs. Or useing a two handed Weaver grip on a black powder revolver ( goodbye fingers). Or even better, useing a take down sniper rifle with the ubiquitous crossbow reticle in the scope, and a detachable scope mount held in place with ONE thumb screw and it's ALWAYS zeroed and shoots to point of aim. Gotta stop, it's killing me! Well one more. The 10' wide shotgun pattern at 10' distance, and the person being lifted off the ground and hurled ten feet back from any gun shot be it 9mm, 38, 44, 5.56, 7.62, .30 -06, 12, 16, 20, 28 gauge or .410. I was at a gun range years ago. While I was waiting for a spot to open up I was watching this guy talking up a big game with his girl. He had a semi-auto pistol of some sort, I can’t remember what it was. I watched him step up , rack the slide and fire his first shot. Then he racked the slide again. He didn’t notice the unfired round fly out and land on the floor. He proceeded to do this after every shot then got this really surprised look on his face when he ran out of ammo much quicker than he expected. It was pretty funny at the range. It could have got him killed in other circumstances.

Asked about half moon clips used for a revolver my grandpa has. Clip is not interchangable with magazine no matter how much the guy at Dick's Sporting Goods wanted to argue with my uncle about a clip actually being called a "magazine". So it isn't just Hollywood who has it's know-nothing know-it-alls. Probably asked someone what a clip was once and they said "it's like a magazine" That or D.S.G. has the term clip blacklisted because of the association with gang activity like why a guy at a smoke shop kept repeating that it was a "water pipe" and not a "bong" and that if i called it a "bong" i would have to leave the store. at least with clip and magazine there is a reason to use one or the other. with bong and water pipe, it isn't like calling it a water pipe magically makes it where you can only smoke tobacco with it.

We lived next door to an surgeon growing up...my dad asked him once about the shoulder shot thing in movies - it seems logical, no major organs there. The MD said there are a few worse places to get shot, but that's not a good one...major blood vessels and arteries. He said the best pace in your torso is to either side of your heart a little lower, through a lung. No major vessels and your lung just collapses and is kinda sticky so somewhat self-sealing if the bullet goes through you.

On the flip side, there are the scene where a bullet throws the actor back or a hit to a non-lethal area drops them like a fly. I forget where but I know I've read that one of the biggest mistakes people make in self defense situations is thinking that if they shoot someone anywhere and that will end the threat when in reality there are loads of places you can be shot and continue to advance, albeit much more slowly.

@ Richard Orta it's actualy illegal for a US soldier to pickup and use an enemy weapon. Not saying it doesn't happen irl, but don't get caught doing it. As for the movies they always show US tropes as good guys who don't violate laws of war, so make of it what you will.

@@donnyschort6150 All armies have people who have committed war crimes, it would be foolish not to think that. As for the legality of using enemy weaponry. I will have to loom that up, as far as i know I am not sure if it is illegal to use an enemy weapon or just not advised. weapons are often booby trapped if left behind. Well, maybe if it was a gas or something, then it would definetly be illegal to use it. Genevia convention and all. Captured enemy combat vehicles have been used in WW2 and pretty sure that didn't end there. They are technically weapons, if there is a weapons system mounted on it.
5 жыл бұрын
@@donnyschort6150 It is NOT illegal to use enemy weapons. It's not a good idea to use an enemy weapon as your primary weapon. Weapons have different sound and flash signatures. In a firefight especially at night when you can't see what or who you're shooting at, soldiers are apt to shoot at the sound and flash of an enemy weapon. That can get your ass toasted in short order. In an emergency if you're out of ammo or your issue weapon has malfunctioned it is NOT illegal to use whatever is at hand including enemy equipment. PS: Here's something most people don't know. It IS illegal to shoot people with a 50 caliber Browning machine gun. The 50 Browning cartridge is classified as an anti material cartridge. You can shoot enemy equipment but NOT personnel. However if you do and someone complains there is an out. The enemies weapon, uniform, helmet, belt buckle, etc. IS enemy equipment. No sarge I didn't shoot him, I shot his buttons on his jacket. It's not my fault he was stupid enough to be hiding behind them. Well OK then.
