Sometimes it’s not always safe to be a hero. When the weather is bad, you don’t go out and try to remove anything because there’s a risk of someone crashing into you, you could slip and fall in the middle of the road.. and people behind probably don’t have the patience. We never know what idiot will be around the corner speeding without traction and power slides into you. It’s always safe to just stay away from threatening situations.

@USA ASMR Personally, I would but in dangerous weather no. Why you think the driver in the video paid no attention.. he still drove perfectly fine after that.. if it’s raining, light snow, sunny outside or even seriously cold I wouldn’t mind at all, but where there’s already many dangers out, snow + wrong tires + bad driver = Accident, and I’m not willing to be a victim. Use your head sometimes. It’s amazing to remove something off the road but In cases like this no.. my dads friend picked up something that was in the middle of the road (black ice) as he picked up trying to push to the side some rammed the car forcing his own car against him, knocked out in a coma for 4 months, he has changed since the accident he’s extremely crazy, acts reckless and drinks a lot. Goes to show you cannot be a hero all the time. All you can do in dangerous situations is slow down to single digit speeds and go around or over the obstacle depending on what it is.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Clickbait!!! I was expecting this BMW to be "plowing" through snow showing off the "mighty" XDrive. Pretty much the whole video was plowed roads. I almost clicked away from this video due to the horrible loud music at the start. I got bored after about 5 min. and couldn' t watch the rest. Nasty weather but not what I would call extreme. I live in Canada. I've seen some epic blizzards, where everything shuts down, the police tells people to stay home and the plows pretty much stay off the roads until the blizzard becomes less severe.

Great film! I am not so familiar with driving in the mountains in deep snow, so here my question: Assuming having a car with 4x4 and good winter tyres - does it need to have special skills to drive such a road? Or is it the car which makes the whole job? It is nothing against you. Just a question if an "normal" driver can successfully go up this hill in these particular conditions.

You can easily drive in snow in any condition. Tires, xdrive etc just improves your chances getting to destination depending on weather conditions. Nobody has skills from the start, you need experience and to know your car and feel limit of traction. Just go in snowy roads and practice, do some sliding, uphill start and you will get basic set of skills before going to extreme weather conditions in mountain :) Just don't brake on downhill

Even with an 4x4 it requires some skill. The car will still drift if you're too heavy on the throttle. But you'll also get stuck if you don't take enough speed with you. This video is impressive, but I think if he were to stand still at some point, he would have some problems to get the car moving again. And you have to drive very foresighted. It also takes some skill to judge the roads conditions. Take a wrong line and the car gets stuck immediately or the car might even slide out(not because of power, but because the snow can't support you). And again, you're stuck. Even with all wheel drive, you still run the risk of your tires lifting from the ground if the snow is too thick. So yes, you need some skills to drive in the snow. The cars 4x4 system can only ensure that every wheel gets the maximum amount of traction. Depending on the all wheel drive system it means, that the car will apply the brakes on the spinning wheels, to distribute grip through the open diffs. But things like ESP won't do much in the snow, since ESP mainly works via brake inputs. But without traction, that will do next to nothing. And note that the traction per wheel isn't any different with a 4x4 from a standard 2 wheel drive car. Btw, the most important thing in the snow are the tires. Even a two wheel drive car could to this much (and even more), with proper off-road tires. (But who uses off-road tires on their luxury car? )
