USD to PHP that's 74,000. But, It's not as simple as "is $1500 a month enough to live on?" Just like in the US you're going to have cities which are going to cost five times more than living outside the city. And then of course you have the next major thing, and that's based on what kind of lifestyle you want to live. A lot of people make $500 a week in America and that's the lifestyle they are used to. Others make $2500 a week and still want more. But on average is $1500 enough for the Philippines? Absolutely in fact it's way more than anyone would need at least the typical person. I paid cash for my land over there, and then I spent three years building the house that I wanted. So I have budgeted for $500 a month. But seeing as how my home is paid for $500 a month is way more than I need. The fact is the average Filipina or Filipino makes 100 to 200 peso a day. That being said and our money that's 2 to 4 dollars. Now of course most people reading this channel would not be comfortable living like a Filipino because as Americans we typically desire more. But my $500 a month that I budget I never even come close to spending it all.

In Puerto Princesa, I rented a one-bedroom apartment that was 10,000 pesos a month. My fiancée is in a nice unfurnished apartment in a small town in Mindanao that is 3500 a month. It all depends on what you're expecting. If you want to live in a large city apartment with a fitness room and swimming pool next to a shopping mall and restaurants, be prepared to pay. If you are willing to live more like a local, it can be very cheap indeed.

It is our experience that everything is more expensive in the Philippines as compared to the States. In the States gasoline ATM is $2.30 USD / gallon (about 4 liters); but in the Phil it runs in the neighborhood of 80 PHP / liter or about $7.00 USD / gallon. When we got married in 2006 food in a grocery store was far more expensive than in the US. Manufactured goods are also more expensive due to shipping and 3rd party profits. Land/building lots are small and valued by the meter somewhere around 4000 PHP / meter . With 1 acre being about 4047 meters squared, that would be 16,188,000 PHP to the acre or about $344,425.00 / acre (quite ridiculous). I don't know how rents can be so low? On this last one regarding land prices, Mira, how can that be?

foreigners dont got more money usaly than any other ppl in other countries, cause even if they have 2.000-10.000 dollar in norway the cost of living there is so high that its almost the same as any other countr if you compare what things you get for your sallary. lets say you find a place in norway its usaly over 1000 dollars in rent even in the country side, and all things you buy cost alot more then most other countries. and when they are on vacation they still have to pay on everything back home. so if anyone asked me to pay or give money to the family just because you date a daughter/mother i would look at it as prostitution. and i would never pay for that.

$1,500 will afford you to live like a king, are you kiddin' me? Granted of course, you already have a place to live and some sort of transport (bike, car) you're comfortable with, that you don't pay for. In fact, most of your budget would probably just go to your entertainment expenses (wink, wink). Without entertainment, you could live on $400/mo.

$1500 a month is about right. That's about how much i could afford as a military retiree. I live in the US but thinking about staying for a few months in my country of birth. I am a Filipino/American. Will make a trip in the Philippines this year. Can't wait.
@gentleheart40man9 жыл бұрын
Yes, in my opinion, you can live well in the Philippines on $1500 USD a month -- not that I've done it but I've heard from ex-pats living there and they've all said the same thing -- $1500 USD is doable HOWEVER it does NOT bring luxury living as you might imagine if you're thinking that you're bringing in four or five times the monthly salary of the average Filipino. IT IS luxury living by some Filipino standards but not all Filipinos are poor. And many middle-class Filipinos don't regard themselves as poor (compared to Western standards) as they're comparing themselves to those directly around them. In any case, if you are a well-off foreigner seeking to live in the Philippines, keep in mind that it will get around that you are well off financially and you may have trouble with those asking for money or, in the worst case, being robbed/kidnapped (those this is rare but it does happen and more likely in the southern provinces). Also keep in mind that if you live out in the provinces, healthcare isn't as good as in Manila (the good thing is that a lot of Filipino doctors/dentists/etc. get their training in the U.S. and top hospitals there are comparable to those in western countries). However, living in Manila means living in one of the most populous cities on earth and it's virtually never quiet and always crowded. I miss seeing greenery when I go there - you have to go specifically to places that have it or go out of the city. The best compromise, I can see, if you can afford it (unless your spouse has family elsewhere in the Philippines) is to buy a condo in a good area in/near Manila and stay there during the winter months of the U.S. (if you live in a northern state), and then the other half of the year back in the U.S. in a condo. Ideally, while you're away from each, you rent the one you're not using. This won't work for everybody and is just a suggestion.

+gentleheart40man I live in a small town in Batangas, my healthcare is great and especially my dental work. I live good on $600 a month. Very safe here, 30 minutes to the beach. I don't drink and bars are not allowed here which is good.
@gentleheart40man9 жыл бұрын
Yes, many Filipino dentists get their schooling/training in the States/Canada/Australia and do excellent dental work. Dental tourism is a big thing there nowadays --- see the Philippines and get two crowns done for the same price as it would be just getting the crowns done in the States. However, medical care is a toss-up, while it can be very good , it can be very hard to get certain types of medical care as some hospitals don't have the state-of-the-art equipment.
@julewestcott67159 жыл бұрын
+gentleheart40man Ya at the hospital I went to their equip like the Xray machine got to be 40 yrs old. I grew up in the Bootheel of New Mexico we would go across the border to Mexico to get our dental care, but here it is even cheaper. I get better healthcare here than the VA,

Your right, $1,500 right now in PH is enough to live comfortably. But just like in the rest of the world there is a huge difference living in the cities from living in the province.
@wf945559 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on the video. (1) If you are going to be in Japan in the winter, you need to get winter clothes for 0 C. You may be able to get them cheaper if you buy now. (2) If you are going to give your girlfriend's family $200 a month and they live in the countryside, you may be putting them in a situation where they do not have to work and they would be living on what you give them. The problem is that if you breakup with your girl friend, her family may "starve" for a while. (3) I agree that many people in the PI do not know how to handle money--if they have it they spend it. It may be partly do to the fact they are not use to having (extra) money.
@Mirajill09099 жыл бұрын

Work! Ok, got it. Working to do what, saving money for returning to PI, perhaps? Well, anyway, here's my question for you. My 'steady' in the Phils (we've been writing each other since October this year) recently wrote me, saying that as IT rep she makes P450 per day (US $9.18) an exchange rate of P49 to US $1.00. How much do you think I should send her per month, to help her out there (she's widowed, and lives near Manila in apt with her 3 kids and sister). Her recent dental expense, which she said her insurance card from work won't cover and she can't afford to pay, amounted to P2500 (US $51.00) for a tooth extraction, and P400 (US $8.16) for an x-ray. So now her dental work's still not done and probably won't be for the time being. When I offered to send her money to pay just for that, she refused. She even refused accepting a Samsung Galaxy smartphone from me (my old one) which I also wanted her to have, just so we could keep in touch that way. Said she just wanted to keep hers, even though we know it works intermittently, or not at all, when emailing me and that she just felt uncomfortable accepting it, not wanting to be seen as 'opportunistic!' Great! Am retired but certainly able to afford helping her and her family out. So, what do I do now, what advice can you give me for any of this, if any? Thank you, Mira! Sincerely, Bill in Minnesota

what kind of lifestyle can you live in asia for us 1000? are you kidding me? no chance. no way. its going to happen. sure. 1000 will get you a tiny room with no air. no drinking, partying , shopping and certainly no traveling.. dude. wake up and be realistic. min needed for a descent. and only said descent life. is 2k! you can believe that..

ive done it for half that...true its hardly the RITZ CARLTON but its not that bad either. just pick your house WISELY... as for giving money to the family ....sigh... let me just cut STRAIGHT to the facts... YOU ARE AN ATM MACHINE to these people... know this and live with it because you will soon find out that if the money EVER stops so does their ability to give a crap about you.... the money only flows ONE WAY.... if YOU EVER need anything don't expect anyone to pass the hat on your behalf...years of "blessings" from you are quickly forgotten... ive seen it 1st hand multiple times no matter WHAT you give there is always an attempt to get MORE there is always some massive emergencysomeone always needs "medicine"there is always someone "sick"... ( my favorite lame reason )look, I adore the girls... its the culture and the deadbeat men I loathe.... I lived there 2 years and just had finally had enough 2 months ago and left, abandoning well over $25,000 worth of possessions id shipped and accumulated over 2 years... the place was literally eating my will to live.... its an ungodly place to LIVE.... to visit? great... do you thing...have youre fun THEN LEAVE this is my BOOTS ON THE GROUND - been there done that advice for all who think its a dream in the making... after 6 months you'll wake to a whole new nightmare as for YOU mira... youre a sweetheart... quite a bit better than the average girl I met over there...well spoken and obviously a THINKER... you are a RARE BREED :)

Hi Mira, It's good that you are concentrating on yourself and the things that you want to accomplish. There will be plenty of time for relationships and men to make you miserable - lol Enjoy your youth and travel as much as you can. As far as living on $1500 a month, you should be able to live very well in the Philippines for that amount. Now if you have a large family and live a western lifestyle there you might have difficulties. Any girl that you meet there who doesn't think that amount is adequate time to move on. My Mom lives on that amount in the U.S.in retirement and she has a large home.

Mira is cute as a button and I like the things she is saying. I think she could make her points better with a bullet point presentation but she is cute so the meandering is not annoying to me anyway. Smiles.

+Robert kubrick Lol, do you know that i had a meeting with a youtuber regarding that? since i was planning to expand a bit, they suggested that since that's how men see things. I am really considering that and hearing it from you makes me more interested with that idea.

To all americans that want to come to the philippines just watch out for items with no prices on them, cz that means they have two prices, the filipino price, and the americano price which is usually 2-3 times the regular price!!!!!

Depend on how you spend your money. Some big mansons in Philippines can cost as high at $ 4.5 million USD.
@canman50608 жыл бұрын
+BLACKCROW WALKING 4.5 million USD is not really a lot of money by today's standard.I have been to the Philippines and I couldn't imagine how fast my money can go. Just a couple of regular days out in Manila can cost me over P8500 , about $200 USD. 4.5 million USD you may be able to afford a tiny pigeon hole in downtown Paris.
@canman50608 жыл бұрын
+BLACKCROW WALKING $200 USD per day in the Philippines. Let me see...... It is around P9000 Philippine peso.One day round trip to the province to he home town of my wife cost around P3500.Some grocery shopping say around P3000 , that's not bad for a average grocery store.I have P3500 left.If I do not have a home to stay in the Philippines.The hotel will cost me around P1500 per night for a hotel with some basic facility.I donlt have much left. If I stay in the Shrangalia in Manila with only $200 USD per night , I will be kicked out !

$1500.00 is wayyyyy more than enough to live on in the Philippines unless you are a person that likes to show off that you have nice things. My husband is from Ilocos Sur and sending $500.00 per month to his siblings in Manila is enough to pay their apartment and living expenses too.
@richardcrutchfield59656 жыл бұрын
I really believe that 1500 dollars is more than enough for a person to live on in the Philippines. I am not a materialistic person and would be happy living comfortably in the Philippines.

if you don't make at least $1000 a month don't even try to come here. if you factor in visa extensions and healthcare it can't be done. they talk about Phil health but it's not healthcare it a DISCOUNT!!!! It will get you in the hospital but if you don't have the cash to pay up your not getting out. also if you try on just $1000 a month remember the cost of living goes up here to.
