For me Netflix has lost its luster. I started buying shows and movies I wanted, and since I really like anime, I will go for Funimation or crunchy roll at times and just binge my favorite shows. I have the Hulu $1 a month Black Friday deal and tbh, I won't even use it as I hate ads too much. It's just overpriced when you can often get better content on KZbin.

Nope years ago when I cut the cord it was to save money and only have content I wanted without all the tiered bs cable companies had. Fast forward Netflix has constantly increased prices and every studio under the sun has separate apps ..if you get Netflix Hulu Disney plus and one other services now you're back into cable territory..it was good while it lasted

@N0 One454 I'm still saving quite a bit of money from Verizon FiOS packages. I was paying $240 a month (!!!) for TV, internet (75mbps) and phone, and am currently down to half that with a better internet connection (300mbps). I pay for Internet, Google TV, Hulu, and Discovery+, while sharing other services with family (Disney+, HBO Max and Paramount+). Netflix comes with T-Mobile, so there's no cost there. Internet $35, Hulu, $12, Discovery+ $7, Google TV $65. No phone because who needs a landline? It's definitely gotten more expensive over the years. Google TV was $49 when I started, but overall, still saving a bundle on a monthly basis with more content than I ever had on FiOS TV, unlimited DVR with Google TV, plus all that other stuff on demand. I'll take it.

Went to 4k but most was their content, and less that were good. Scaled back down to HD plan and considering canceling. Use other platforms more often. May sign back up only during specific series being released then cancel again back and forth.

I definitely agree with this video. Netflix content has diminished for the things I have enjoyed. They cancelled great shows, and I still don't understand why they have a few Bond movies, but not at least a series of one of the actors? They have created some great movies but those are way too far and in between to pay for their top tier service. Netflix announcing their crackdown on shared accounts is an insult since they originally encouraged sharing with family.

The biggest battle between these two for me is honestly the HDR. My TV is not OLED or 4K so it doesn’t need the premium plan, but my phone HAS HDR, so if I ever watch shows on my phone I’d get the best contrast and quality when watching. However my phone and my TV both use 1080p, I have the iPhone 14 so it has FullHD+ with OLED so I don’t think it matters to have the best. Unless one day I want to pay it for just a month of use, I think it’s not worth it in the long run. I remember Premium used to be $15… crazy!

Out here, Netflix is the only platform with all the old Star Trek shows. I'm keen on watching TOS and TNG (and later DS9, maybe VOY, finished ENT) end to end at least once, should I get the Premium plan to get the most of the remastered episodes? Or should I let the 4K TV's upscaling do its job on the Full HD Standard plan's content? I'm waiting for Paramount+ to launch or release Trek content on the local platform, but that may take very long to happen.

4K was just too crazy for bandwidth usage but Netflix overall....I used them in 2003 for mailing DVDs...I used them in 2009 using both streaming and shipping. I used the in 2013 for streaming only. Early 2022 I decided to cancel for our family of 6 and did in March. We haven't really noticed with all the other great services we already pay for. I tried the gaming early this year and yes it was nice but not enough to warrant the constant price increases.

It's not worth it. I have a 4K, full UHD, HDR TV and the movies that have the 4k icon the picture looks more like 1080p to 1444p definitely not true 4K as my Xbox 4k BlueRay drive. I even went to the settings page and made sure I was on the PREMIUM plan at $22.00 a month and selected the highest settings and nothing. Just garbage! Also, like this KZbinr said the 4K selection is very very limited after almost a decade of 4k content outhere you will think they will be more. I am thinking of cancelling. This KZbinr is correct why own a 4K TV when NextFlix is not 4K.

I think it is especially if you have a recent high quality 4K HDR/Dolby Vision TV and a surround sound setup. The fact is that Netflix has the largest amount of 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos content for the lowest price. So unless you’re willing to shell out hundreds to thousands on 4K Blu-rays at $20-40 a pop on average and/or 4K streams from iTunes, Vudu, etc., a Netflix 4K sub makes sense. What I also like about Netflix is that they feature and produce a ton of original international content that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to check out.

@@grocerylist This is an exaggeration. The difference really isn’t that significant especially with digitally shot content which is what the vast majority of today’s content is. Also why would you buy everything you watch? Sure there are movies worth buying that you might watch a few times per year, but the vast majority of the stuff on people’s shelves are just collecting dust.

@@lecorsaire2283 It's not an exaggeration. Netflix tops out at 25Mbps whereas 4k BluRays can exceed over 100Mbps. There's always a compromise with streaming, where both the Video and more specifically the Audio suffers as a consequence.

You can also wait for 4k discs to drop in price. I've bought quite a few 4k discs in the $10-$20 range. That gives you the best picture and sound quality outside of spending a HUGE amount on Kalaidascape for about the same A/V quality as a disc.

My opinion: I used to have Netflix back they mailed out DVD movies. But I haven't renewed my subscription for a while. I'm now subscribed to Disney+ and HBO Max because I find myself watching movies and TV shows the most on those two services. Netflix has some interesting content, but it's not enough for me to warrant another subscription at this time. In addition; I can get good movies from the Microsoft store, albeit they may not be the latest box office releases, I can still watch them on my big screen TV for that near-theater experience.

Doesn't a film or show have to recorded with a 4k camera for it to be 4k? So how is a 1980s movie like Ghostbusters being advertised as being streamed in 4k? Can someone explain?

Ghostbusters was shot on film so if they go back and scan the negatives it can be in 4K, possibly even 8K (but not 100% on that).

For me, the standard def is fine..2 screens are fine. I don't download. I have T-Mobile and they pay about $11. If I had to pay $15, I would look elsewhere. I have Prime and YT TV. Most of my watching is YT TV due to the sports and some of the network shows. Netflix should just drop one episode a week and keep shows for more than one season.

I personally have every tool in my arsenal too take full advantage of 4K streaming. However, Netflix doesn’t provide a strong enough value proposition to justify the costs. I’ve always had the HD tier and have never felt like I was missing out but I have noticed a decline in overall content. You can’t pull that much content and raise you’re costs. Has to be one or the other. That said. I find that bundling STARZ & Showtime is nearly as good for nearly the same price.

Netflix was super at buying lots of great stuff and making a few great shows and had a 5⭐ recommendation engine that worked really well. Now, they produce a ton of just-okay content (some great) and the 👍🏻👎🏻 engine has me doing all of the work, trying to get into shows and figuring out that, "No, this isn't thought provoking. It's bad." I voted with my wallet years ago, but not because of the price.

I HATE ads and will pay the price to remove them. At 19.99 I also had to do some 're-thinking'. I am at Netflix's highest level, but may drop back one level in the near future. I too think if any of these service get greedy, it will surely hurt them. There is so much other entertainment available for one to experience. I almost forgot ... one thing that REALLY bothers me, that I've noticed more of recently, is movies dialog which as been 'dubbed' over; the dialog does not match the person's lips. Last, after watching your video to the end ... I am going down to the Netflix 'mid' tier; even though I have a late LG 4K OLED I'm not sure I'll see much if any difference. I'll know once I switch and watch for a month.

The lips sync problem is because OLED TV's are so incredibly fast. You have to work on the settings to add some delay, I think it's call jutter. There are YT videos on correcting it and it matching your audio solution to the TV to avoid the problem.

@@nelq06 Probably depends on what you watch it on whether or not it makes a difference. Most of my Netflix viewing is using an Apple TV 4K, attached to 65" 4K HDR TV and a 7.1 Dolby Atmos AV receiver for sound. For me it makes a worthwhile difference for movies and shows that are available in 4K.

The ending decision points seem off. Why would you pay for 4K service if you don't have a 4K TV? That would be like buying 3D discs and player without a 3D TV, etc. We just moved to a 4K OLED due to a sudden old TV failure, it was on sale, and the Xfinity 4K box isn't extra. Adding $4 more a month for 4K Netflix was a no brainer. To one of your other points, we stick with Comcast because of all the streaming fees and so many shows moving to "plus" channels at extra cost so if we followed along with all that we'd be paying a grand a month to watch TV. So we just stop watching shows that move. Ads don't bother me since even cable has those now when it was originally the way to avoid them because it was paid TV.
