I'm laughing with you when I watch this! It feels good to see another person who has shared this experience also. I totally get the opening the box euphoria because I just got mine yesterday and it was so much more than I expected to own. And, in similar fashion, I put it on my $1200 used bike I bought in the early spring. ( I have the regular and not step cast) I could not cut that steerer tube....you are braver than me. I just held it like a new puppy and watched KZbin with it. But...I took it to a shop this morning to get the deed done. I also forgot about the 15 x 120 axel until a day after I ordered and then bought a single budget wheel out of desperation and am still waiting for it. The wheel was basically used and abused anyway. I also put the 4 piston Shimano XT brakes on the same bike last month. Did I mention I paid $1200 for the bike? LOL!

if you have an older front shock with only open/close settings in my case a 2016 ish rock shox reba RL it's absolutely totally worth it the middle setting made a huge difference on wood paths and I became faster everywhere with less effort and more importantly to me my shoulders hurt a lot less I was unable to ride with the rock shock because they were basically stiff-stiff-stiff-full travel-stiff-stiff-stiif Foxes are absolutely not like thhat they move sometimes not much but they do with less than 30 miles of training that year I immediately did 47miles 5000ft uphill a mountain and down I don't regret my upgrade, it's way more progressive and smooth

just a quick heads up, from a bunch of tests done on crank length they don't really make a noticable difference (usually 165-175mm are tested) and shorter ones just have more clearance, maybe the fact that they were new and difference made it feel faster (and obviously the fork)
@EvansMTBSaga3 жыл бұрын
Well I went from 165s to 175s and the difference was crazy. I really regret having rode 165s. Not enough leverage

Begin with the things that matter when upgrading the bike. So far the fork was a worth while investment, but I do think that the tires would be a better upgrade to do next as those ones look a bit under gunned. Better rubber always makes a world of difference!

Dude good advice! I'm never really sure what tires to go with. Any recommendations? My terrain is rugged, loose over hard. But also want a fast rolling tire.
@adriaan36493 жыл бұрын
@@EvansMTBSaga Maxxis Aggressor, Schwalbe Nobby Nic/Hans Damf and Michelin also make a few tires that roll fast and last long. Rubber compound is also important. Maxxis 3C Maxx Terra would be good for the Aggressor.

The question is what you would get for selling the bike and then add $1100 on top of that for a new bike purchase, or a solid second hand one. Personally I would go that route before the bike takes a plummet in second hand value. I've recently upgraded brakes on my personal commuter bike that cost more than the bike itself, but that bike isn't worth selling in terms of monetary value, so that to me made sense given I use it 365 days a year and don't own a car. It's all about price per year.
