Can you do a video on taking BJJ at a “Chain” like Gracie Barra, RCJ Machado vs at a non affiliated BJJ studio. Pros, Cons, your take on where people train at?

Can you post all of your curriculum? You often talk about knowing the curriculum but lots of our schools don’t have it, it would help your viewers a lot. Thanks for the videos man.

Do any of your students do mma? Just curious about that. Would love to hear about your mma program! 😀
@KamaJiuJitsu3 жыл бұрын
Not MMA. But we do train for Vale Tudo.
@cruise_missile83873 жыл бұрын
@@KamaJiuJitsu Oh well that's good. Everyone should do some form of that (MMA, Vale Tudo, Pankration even- something combative). I always thought of Vale Tudo as just an older form of mma though, with with fewer rules and no gloves, how do you train for it in a way that's differentiated from mma and maintains safety? I don't hear the term Vale Tudo too much anymore so that's super interesting.

Would like to have your thoughts on the gracie barra system
@KamaJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
I don’t know their system. I’ve met many of their black belts over the years. The old ones are a way different breed than the new ones. The focus there seems to have definitely shifted. Seems. But like I said, I don’t know their system.

The Gracie Barra is a good system that teaches self-defense moves but mainly focuses on the sport Jiu-jitsu.
@rolandmalone54316 жыл бұрын
Old school gracie barra e.g. draculino, fietosa, etc know the self defense really well and hv solid fundamentals...

When is a good time to start to compete? I’ve just gotten my first white belt stripe and I think I’d enjoy competing. Should I wait for my instructor to let me know? Any information would be sweet. Thanks!
@KamaJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
Or you can ask him what he thinks. Either way, get some knowledge under that white belt, first.

16:00 rolling doesn’t make you better? You mean there is no trial and error involved in this process? I’d take someone who just rolls over someone who just does technique.
@rollinOnCode3 жыл бұрын
there is different aspect. so if you roll without direction anď focus then it is not that useful. and if you drill techniques with progressive resistance then that is a billion times more useful than random rolling

I dont know if you have a video for this, but should a black belt have some competition experience? Id like to know your take on this as a GJJ (self Defense) Black belt. Thank you
@KamaJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t hurt, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. I’m probably in the minority on that one.

Thank you for responding and your input professor Ryan. Starting late in the game ill probably be with you on that one too.

I am small guy, only 140. I train with some big people, over 200 sometime. When they put too much pressure, I feel the big guy can hurt me just by squeezing. Can this happen. How do you train for this?
@KamaJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
Man, I feel you! That’s a tough one. Big guys don’t bother me now. I don’t know what I’m doing that makes it that way, but it seems to coincide with me beginning my training with Professor Dave.
@Sawbucks236 жыл бұрын
1) You can ask the bigger guys to use technique over strength and size 2) You are going to have to deal with it. Seven years later I had to call it quits after my ribs became jacked up. 3) Only spar with gentle people or people your own size.

Exhale slowly when pressure is applied, relax... ur diaphragm goes with the pressure of the opponent, when u panick thats when it goes against the opponent and u are out of breathe, if you hv a skeleton with proper frames and structures you can manage weightsvheavier then u

Vien_Minh I remember when I first started I was 125 lbs. What I did was I would have some guys stack me or knee on belly for 20 seconds at a time. Really helped to build mental toughness and stamina to not panic in those situations. Funny story one of my coaches put me against a 6 foot something 250 lbs guy. He started us with him mounting me and had me try to escape to full guard. Told me he would promote me if I could get to full guard in a 2 min round. Could only make it to half guard LOL.

I'm 150 lbs. I too have guys in our gym around 200 lbs. My advice...frame, shrimp, and feet on the hip. I rolled with a guy who was 285 no problem. You might have to learn how to defend hardcore until they gas out before you can even think about submitting.

IBJJF ha sbeen making rules that many feel are diluting the art. One possible motivation i have heard is that they want to get BJJ into the Olympics. I have seen many judoka comment that the politics of being an Olympic event have had a negative impact of the art of Judo. But theres no doubt that the Olympics bring exposure and a certain prestige to a sport. Ryan, im curious what your view is on the issue of BJJ in the Olympics: do you think it would be good for the sport? Bad? Some mix of both?
@KamaJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
i think a lot of the rules are there in an attempt to protect the athletes and enable BJJ to become more widespread. i don't think BJJ as it stands now will ever be an olympic sport, since if it were to happen, then international jurisdiction of BJJ will transfer largely from the IBJJF to the IOC... and someone(s) will lose a lot of money if that were to happen.
@harageilucid43526 жыл бұрын
I hadnt thought of that, but it makes a whole lot of cents lol

Another great video! My takeaway is that if you are a "putty-cat" you don't deserve to wear a black belt. Also wonder if having 45 minute rolls vs the same person something that KJJ does all the time.

Once in a great while, it’s something good to do. I did more of those in my younger days.
