Honestly… I would like to see a remake Enfield III rifle blown up. Or a remake of… um… what was that early bolt action to semi auto convert called? A turner rifle or something like that? The steampunk look of the rifle would probably look epic in slow motion. Just make sure your face and fingers aren’t in the way of the bolt. Edit: after doing some research. There were a few bolt action to semi auto conversion rifles produced in WWI. Though I think that some of the semi auto conversions for the Lee Enfield would look better in slow motion.

It's amazing how robust most modern firearms are. Literally both of those guys could have walked away with at worst minor facial lacerations. That said, it's definitely not something I'll personally be trying anytime soon. This also highlights why eye protection is so important. You could easily be blinded by minor shrapnel and/or unburned powder without it.

Firearms are purposely overbuilt for safety, it's essentially just a law of manufacturing. Even the cheap Hi-Point is an amazingly safe firearm in the event of a catastrophic malfunction.

@@ShrockWPS Very true. I had my own case where I accidentally found out how safe modern firearms are when shooting some hand loaded 12 ga slugs. I fired 5 of them and everything seemed okay until I noticed that just the "brass" ejected out on the 5th shot. The entirety of the plastic hull was missing and all the other hulls were torn (I hadn't noticed before because it was a semi-auto that threw the other hulls into some tall grass nearby). I examined the "brass" portion and there were deep ejector marks and primer cratering on all of them. I just got too used to handloading and let my guard down/got complacent, a mistake I never made again after that. I should have been checking all the spent hulls after each shot. I think I got lucky. People say that shotgun hulls don't show signs of overpressure but in my case they definitely did. I showed the hulls to some experts who actually pressure test shotgun ammo. They estimated the pressure was at least 20,000 PSI (nearly double the SAAMI spec maximum pressure for 12 ga). I have no doubt that if modern shotguns weren't so overbuilt I would have had a catastrophic kaboom.

That happened to a friend of mine. Overcharge of the wrong powder in a .44 Magnum. The topstrap and the upper three chambers of the cylinder completely blew off. Fortunately for him, it all went up and out, like in the video. No injury.

This is basically how the revolvers usually fail:I had two catastrophic failures myself and also witnessed one that happened to my friend and all the three cases had been surprisingly similar to each other and to the one you described!Funny thing in my case is that all the three revolvers were made by H&R-both of mine were very old ones from 1880-ies,both in .32rf long-a caliber that used to be rather popular back then but is long forgotten by everyone,so those were both so called "suicide specials" and even among the other similar guns made by different companies of the era in the same caliber that I used to have over the years no other had such a poor quality as those...As for my friend though this same thing happened to his H&R that was actually produced more than a century later than mine were-in late 1980-ies,and it was chambered in .327 magnum and absolutely rated for modern loads and yet blew up in the dude's hands just as the other two!And in fact some of the old .32rf revolvers I have which were made by Forehand&Wadsworth company which has changed it's name back in 1890 and then absorbed by H&A in 1902,but during it's existence used to make a number of guns that were amazingly indestructible-the models like "double action #32" and a few others had no problem firing such a damn hot loads that I used to try those with that the muzzle energy that I got has actually been higher than what you have from a modern .327 magnum including the load which blew up that sad excuse of a firearm that my friend used to have!Anyway,despite being such a garbage guns at least all the three didn't leave us with any injuries other than just little marks on the hands that were washed off completely by simple soap,in fact oddly enough but it didn't even register initially when it occurred:literally just another bang but somehow the gun is missing the top strap and the upper chamber has it's outside wall ripped open while two neighboring ones are also quite well deformed..

I once had an AMT Automag III (ridiculous pistol chambered in .30 carbine) spectacularly disassemble its self in my hands. I was test firing it for a friend's gun shop who took it in trade. What I didn't know is a previous owner got happy with a Dremel and tried to throat the chamber. He took off way too much metal so the caseheads weren't supported. I think the spec pressure of the round is something like 40,000 psi or some such. Anyway, Ka-Boom. I stood there for a moment, not looking down, counting my fingers. I got to ten (twice), LOL. I couldn't make a fist for a couple days and had probably a hundred teeny-tiny minor burns that looked like someone had taken a hot needle and just touched it all over my palms. The pressure blew down through the magwell, see, blowing out the mag and the grips, projecting the pistol out of my hand. I remember it was like slow-motion spinning away from me as my hands flew back off of it. I don't recommend the experience, BUT I had no real injuries. I was, BTW, wearing shooting glasses.

We work really hard to make guns not dangerous. Pretty much every gun maker does extensive proof load tests and destructive bore obstruction tests. I have been so confident in the safety of the guns I have designed that I have held them when they were expected to fail (with 10-25% more on a squib, not triple powder). Granted.. I had good PPE, and the first time I still used my off hand, but still. In addition to that, because I have done a lot of test shooting, I have had three handguns unexpectedly go boom while I was firing. Always. Wear. Safety. Glasses.

Elmer Keith lost a trigger finger that way with a 1st Generation Colt SAA and a .45 Colt hot hand load. In the late 70s I had a hot commercial round bust up a Detonics stainless Combat Master .45 once and the next round in the magazine also went off. I still have my fingers because I had Pachmyer rubber grips with steel reinforcements on it instead of the stock wood grips. The steel inserts were bowed out 3/4 inch and one had a crack from the flex. My hand was numb for about a half hour and I also had a minor nose bleed from the concussion. Pieces of magazine and loose cartridges bouncing everywhere. The pistol slide cracked, but the frame had no real damage. Magazine was trashed of course.

Acting as a range officer, I actually saw this happen with a .44 Mag Ruger Redhawk about 4 feet in front of me and to my left. The upper half of the cylinder completely fragmented; part of it hit the concrete block partition wall we had between firing points, gouging out a chip which hit me on the cheek - no damage done, but it was this which first alerted me that something had gone wrong. The top strap was completely blown off and punched its way through the plasterboard ceiling. The shooter hadn’t noticed, and was trying to cock what was left of his pistol for the next shot!

I've seen a number of videos of exploding guns, and it seems no one is ever injured! I know of one first-hand, a friend had a 44 Mag. blow up- ruined the gun but he was unharmed. I would rather not experience it myself.

Well, there are several centuries of design to make sure the guns are pretty safe to use. Even the "last ditch" German guns in WW2 were overbuilt in the crucial areas and had some safety features.

This was great! I'm looking forward to seeing this done with a semiauto. I was standing next to a friend when a gun of mine blew up in his hand. Most of the explosion exited downward through the magazine well, taking the magazine with it. I understand this exit pattern is common when semiautos get explodey. So you might want to include the area below the mag well in at least one camera angle.

Try it with a billet, milled, or stamped gun. Taurus guns aren't the best to be used for such an "explosion" because parts, or the whole gun are Metal Injection Molded (MIM) and not the greatest at staying together with normal loads. It tends to easily break off in parts instead of shrapnel.

I have a S&W .357 that tried to shoot a weak brass round, thankfully it just cracked the barrel and seized the wheel in place and didn't explode like that! Way cool video gents. Also I don't condone destruction of firearms unless it's a highpoint.

Many years ago I had a Ruger .45 LC explode in my hands. I was foolishly shooting reloads made by a friend. Cylinder vanished (well, the top half did) and I got a single splinter of metal in my knuckle. Pulled it out, didn't even need a bandage. I believe this was a case of God taking care of fools.

Honestly? Sharper recoil, bigger flash and boom with the bullet traveling faster an probably not stabilizing correctly. I wouldn't guarantee 0 damage to the firearm, but it wouldn't be surprising either.

I purchased factory ammo that happened to be overcharged for my AR. It detonated, thankfully the only shrapnel was from the pmag I was using however the concussive force of a 5.56mm detonating, even though it is small relative to other explosives, was enough to ring my bell for sure.

Well Taurus revolvers are +P rated for extra strength so that extra strength helped in the case of catastrophic failure. Try it with a RIA M206 that is not rated for +P. That would be more interesting.

I once almost managed to get my AK5C blown up this way diring a live fire patroll movement excercise. At some point the gun "jammed" - purely due to habit from training I checked whats wrong instead of sucumbing to the urge to fire again. And there it was a bullet in the barrel. So happy I did not get my face blown to shreds. Just before this excercise we got to insepect a guys rifle who was not so lucky - AK5C's are quite alot of metal bits and turn into a nice granade if not careful.

so scary enough my dad had the same thing happen with his taurus 357 with a 5" barrel that had a built in muzzle break and the only difference from your result was that led squeezed out the break like playdough worms!!! and the top strap did completly break off.
