IMO a hardtail is for people who haven't yet tried a full suspension, or didn't get used to it yet. Full sus is safer, and more comfy. The only drawback is the extra 1kg of weight, and the fact that the weight is in the back, so the bike feels less lively.

In an age where the industry is pushing bikes with more travel, more complexity, and thins like wireless shifting (which does cost a LOT), it's great to take a step back, and to go beck to the tired and true hard tail that was always there for us, and always patiently waited for us to take a break from full squishes and come back to give it some love.
@evanloudenback37003 жыл бұрын
I think the best argument for hardtails (especially aggressive hardtails) is that they're all you need for a vast majority of trails! Average mountain bike riders probably spend most of their time riding easy to intermediate trails (green, blue, black) where full suspension bikes are over-kill (though still fun). Considering the cost savings, weight savings, pedal efficiency and challenge/engagement of riding a hardtail, it's easy to agree, it's the only bike most of us need :)

After watching you shred that Scout last summer, I went on and rented one while on vacation and it was amazing fun. After that, I preordered myself a Scout Comp, unfortunately it didn’t arrive in 7 months so I bought myself a frame. One year later, still stuck with the empty frame (parts are really hard to come by these days), I managed to find the last Scout Race in Romania and jumped on it. I can’t wait to upgrade the my bad boy with some xt’s and a proper dropper (if parts will become available again), until then just happy to ride and having loads of fun. Thanks again for inspiring me, man! Keep up the awesome vids!

This is my experience as well. For most of the stuff I ride I really suffer on a hardtail because its quite flat and very rooty/rocky so its hard to get the speed you need for a lot of the features/jumps without your feet flying off the pedals. Just got a 120mm rear travel full suss and its been a game changer. For the stuff Blake is riding in the video its fine. I rode bike park wales on a hardtail and loved it because its well groomed and downhill. For the pokey, lumpy, bumpy trails I usually ride nearer to home though a short travel full suspension makes more sense.

Wow! I love the cycle industry. A year ago a Hardtail would have been a no no! Bring on a pandemic and Brexit and suddenly the Hardtail is the best thing since sliced bread, not just in this GMBN video but most of them recently! The reason I can think this shift is happening is rising costs, £2.5k is what we paid for a decent full susser a few years ago. Lack of components, there is a massive shortage of components since the pandemic. I love the way the GMBN sponsers are pushing hardtails as that's all that will be available and affordable! Its amazing how people have followed the trends from 26 to 29 to 27.5 or both and now forcing 29" wheels! I still ride a 26" fully rigid and suspension Hardtail and still have as much fun as I ever did.

Blake definitely illustrates how a skilled rider makes use of arm & leg suspension to effectively soak up some serious terrain! We get too caught up in trying to keep up with the Joneses, worrying about having the latest model with big name components. If you're having big fun on the trails and returning home with body & bike intact, then you have everything you need, be it an HT or full sus! Yes, yes and yes!! The 300 million+ people that rides bikes around the world most of them are hard tails. For communizing, road, gravel, kids bikes, backpacking ect. Almost everyone starts out on a hardtail and a lot of people that have a FS bike have a old hardtail in their staple. So yes 👍 all you need in a hard tail to sit on and pedal and enjoy the freedom a bike gives you!!!

It gets even simpler if you go full rigid. That seems to be where your going.

Fully rigid mullet with a plus tire up front. i have a few mini mullets from older 26" frames, 29er fork, 27.5 wheel. They seem to be most fun rides I've ever had. All of mine have worked amazing for me. I'm short as f@ck so the 26 out back really pays off and they scream around corners, climb well and are as playful as a bag off puppies and rainbows.

You all realize that this was tongue in cheek. I don’t want a fully rigid bike, ever. I learned a lot riding a hardtail with 100mm of front travel. I’m now on a Full suspension bike with 150 in the font and 140 rear. I have no intention of going back to a hardtail let alone a fully rigid bike. That’s insane.

Love my hardtail. Keep the hardtail videos coming.

it would be cost effective if you could actually buy one, both nukeproof scout and canyon stoic are out of stock....

Hardtails are fun, got one before, sold it to buy a used 2015 Canyon Spectral. This bike got 150 mm front and back suspension travel, and weights 12.8 kgs with pedals. I think this is the only bike I will ever need, I can do XC meetings and pedal it for hours and also have a lot of fun in Bike Parks on steep trails. King of allrounders, I love my bike.

Hardtail is not the only bike I need , it is the only bike that I can afford.
@evamarek52053 жыл бұрын
Well, the best hardtail is better than the cheapest full suspension bike, component-wise. Look what Blake can do on a hardtail. He's just amazing!

Bought a trail hardtail 3 years ago and I ride it daily. I rode it from the UK to Bosnia on one of countless bikepacking trips, it's been to Les Gets BPW and loads of other parks. I even commute an hour a day on it! All bikes are awesome, but my trail hardtail is the ultimate jack of all trades.

The best Canyon Stoic is around 1700€/1500£ not 3000, and it does the job perfectly
