We have a 2017 QX 80, almost identical to the one you previewed, the steering is not loose on ours at all and the hydraulic ride leveling holds the corners very well. Overall we love the QX80 after owning Chevs, Toyotas, Nissan, GMC and a QX60 it is our favorite go to vehicle so far. I tow a boat and a trailer with it as well with zero problems. Great vehicle.

Hello and how are doing? I am considering on purchasing the 2017 QX80. Are you still enjoying your vehicle? My only concern is not having the bench seat on the 2nd row. I will be coming from a 2007 Nissan Armada with the bench seat included. Do you know if the seat can be added to the QX80? So far I have not found a 2017 QX80 with 4WD that has the bench seat. Take care.

We currently own a 2017 QX80 Signature Edition and a 2018 QX60 and they are the best luxury vehicles we've ever owned. Big, spacious, lots of legroom in the QX80. The entire family loves it. We went to Lake Camanche a couple of years ago and towed a entire RV trailer with no trouble. Excellent SUV's.

Bought a 2020 QX80 LUX in Feb 2023 with only 34,000 miles…very happy with it…only anomalies I notice is occasional engine vibrations in the steering wheel at certain RPMS at low speeds and occasional body shimmy on rough roughs at high speeds (I don’t have the hydraulic body damping option). I don’t have the windshield glare issue you mentioned, nor the loose steering, mine is tight. I chose the QX80 for it’s normally aspirated V8, body on frame chassis tow ability, luxury features, unique styling, and above all its high reliability compared to others in its class. The “dated” interior not an issue…to me it’s a good mix of classic SUV with newer tech. It’s not an Ipad on wheels like some new SUV’S. ITS ALSO A GREAT VALUE USED.

I have a 2014 and my steering is tight, so it's probably that car. There's virtually no road noise. You can go 90 on a freeway and not realize it because of how quiet it is. You missed the bottom storage in the second row (it's large). The sensors that lets you know when someone is coming up next to you from behind, the adjustable adaptive cruise control, collision alerts, it's one of the safest vehicles out there. The turning radius for such a large car is better than most of the same size.

Thanks for the review. Shopping around for these, I've noticed that AWD equipped models are somewhat rare, at least here in the southeast. Also rare are the optional second row bench seats. Not sure how I feel about that huge back seat center console sticking up when you're trying to load up some big items at Lowe's. lol. But I do love the wood accents on the dash. In cross shopping with the less expensive Nissan Armada, I've discovered that the hydraulic controlled suspension is the main component that separates the QX80 from it's lesser sibling. Warning though...if you want the most comfortable ride, stay clear of those 22" wheels on the upper trims.

One issue I have found with my 2014 is it has an ECM controller module connected to the negative post of the battery. The ECM module controlls the amount of a charge going to the battery from the alternator. If you don't drive it more than like 8 miles a day the ECM module never sends a full charge from the alternator and the drain on the battery is more than the charge on the battery. Eventually the vehicle won't start. I diabled this feature by cutting one wire that does not report back to the ECM module, thus sending a full charge from the alternator to the battery all the time. No starting issue since I made this change.

Yes, that is exactly right. Infiniti service dept was in the dark on this issue, couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start b rough over a the senior mechanic from the Nissan dealership next store (same owner) and he sort of whispered the problem and fix in my ear as if he was releasing an unspoken company secret. He did what you suggest above on the sly and and at no cost, the problem has never reoccured. That was 3 years ago. 2016 model year.

@@SpicyRok7482 5w20? 20 when warm is a really low viscosity. If there’s any fuel dilution in oil (because of fuel quality a lot of cars in the US get fuel dilution which thins oil and makes it harder for the oil pump to get oil to the top of motor) happening, that engine won’t like that viscosity. It’s for better fuel economy at the risk of engine wear. New Honda’s and other engines using that viscosity are blowing because of this. We in the US don’t have a clean burning gas as Central Europe. Make sure you use only premium fuel now days because of that it actually matters and get your oil tested at you next oil change.

My wife and I purchased a used 2012 Qx56 now a Qx80 line as of 2015 a year ago. Anyways I bought it from a mon & pop lot dealer. Paid 14k cash and didn't get inspected during the test drive. It drove great for two days before check engine light popped on vehicle started shuddering at stop lights. First major issue was the entire air conditioning unit completely stopped working. Then next the truck would die out in the middle of any given intersection. Not long after ward it started to misfire and show major issues. I took it to several mechanics, repair shops and dealership to have diagnosis. They told us it needed everything from a high pressure fuel pump replacement costing about $1800-2k to the entire engine replaced costing around 10-17k. I've replaced the high pressure fuel pump lifter, 2 tune ups spark plugs and now it won't go in drive. My research tells me it's the timing chain which feeds the fuel and cam. Recently the rear left arms have given in causing my truck's rear end to start saging. With this said Two Luxury SUVs to not buy used are a Range Rover and the old Infiniti Qx56 & 80. Please save yourself a lot of money and stress to avoid. I love the ride and size of my truck. But, after spending roughly $5-7000 on this used vehicle since purchase. My advice is to stick with an American GM product in which parts service repair and warranty are more reasonable.

Be careful with these. There was a recall on the 2011 for a timing issue, if that was done that mitigates a good chunk of risk but it isn’t the only catastrophic issue. The early vk56vd engine suffered from high pressure fuel pump lifter issue (not just the qx56). Basically the lifter under the pump wears and can blow out into the timing housing, destroying the HPFP cam lobe. Thus shooting many metal fragments into the engine an leading to catastrophic failure. I have one of these torn into a thousand pieces in my garage right now. The real fun part is that with the 2014 name change to QX80, Infiniti/Nissan changed the timing and cam setup, also using a different wiring harness, hopefully fixing both issues. However if you find yourself needing a new engine, they are $13k new. Finding a used engine is difficult because the engine is not super prevalent and known for going boom. If you keep your oil changes current and do the other maintenance you should get a lot of miles out of one of these. If you own one and you get misfires and a check engine light pull over immediately, have the high pressure fuel pump pulled and have the lifter inspected. It’s a 30 dollar part...much better than many thousands, if you can even find an engine. If you are going to buy one used have it inspected by Nissan/Infiniti. On a less, “holy crap don’t be me and be careful note.” We love this thing. Can tow great, entertain the kids on a long drive, and has a great ride.

Such a helpful comment, thank you! I’m currently looking at 2011 and 2012 models as they are in my price range, but this news is kind of spooky. I have noticed that some models I looked at had a strange noise coming from what I thought was the timing area. There’s one I’m looking at in particular, but now I need to find out if I can find that repair and recall on the Carfax. Do you know if there is a symptom before complete failure that shows you if the lifter in question is wearing out? Also, any idea about what that tends to cost? Final question and thank you for reading.. are you saying that the recall for the timing issue is different than the lifter issue? Thanks and hoping for a reply 🤞

This is a design that has grown on me, externally, but the Infinity interior design language of that era is mildly disgusting. The fact that it has such a 1990s dated urban art deco aesthetic, the v-shaped vertical tapering theme with a lack of cohesiveness and so nuch tension with regards to the execution on the feaux materals, so much tension wirh regard to proximities, use of negative space and the materials that seem to have too much contrsst snd draw too much focus to them as standout elements which dont break the rules in a good way. Those cold and slick fake wood fake marbleish steering wheels that intentionally are supposed to reside where your hands sit, and the bonus being that you use more than that area and harshnees of the tactile feel when actually using the wheel for other than resting your freshly laquered corn chip finger tips, well that speaks to that era and how out of touch we were and how far we had to come with respect to the manufacturing and processes of those materials, an art in itself.
