Well pastor how do you explain I Corinthians 7:12-15 NKJV Although this text points out for both a husband & wife to not divorce their unbelieving spouse it also does mention if the unbelieving spouse desires to depart, let them. Do you have insight on this scripture “But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 👉🏽But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.”

Greeting, a Bible study will answer your question. Ask man for an answer, and that's what you'll get.

While Pastor Skeete is excellent on many topics, this topic of divorce is not one of them. Matt 19, Jesus gives the only reason for divorce, which is not adultery, but fornicion. See Matt 1 for an example of this. If you use a corrupt Bible translation, it will leave you confused. But the KJV and some others are exact where they use the words fornication and adultery. Jesus knew exactly what He was saying in Matthew 19. It took me years to understand this, and have preached on it numerous time in the SDA Church, and beyond. Quickly, three things: 1. Our oath stands for life. 2. God does not recognize divorce. 3. We are to repent and forgive. (The Lord's Prayer) If we go down this road, Jesus said, "If you look.... you've committed adultery...". So if my wife "thinks" I lusted after another woman, she can divorce me under this false teaching, and remarry. This is another example where the SDA Church is unbiblical. Look at their fruit, many are divorced and remarried as members, and too often, the church turns a blind eye toward it. Jesus said "you make her an adulterous."

Pastor Skeete could have answered this question using two hours of time. It was a minute question, and he gave a minute answer, true to his understanding. "Contemporary context"? God has always been, and changes not. Sin yesterday, and sin tomorrow, are both the same, sin.
