Is Aerating And Overseeding A Must-do This Fall?

I overseeded KBG 4 weeks ago and watered 3 times a day consistently, but one thing I failed to do (too busy with work and life) was to dethatch/aerate and it is very evident. The areas with good seed to soil contact sprouted beautifully, however, areas with thatch failed miserably. I mowed for the first time today since overseeding and my lawn is so spotty- I would guess ~40% germination. Don’t do what I did! $400 worth of seeds. 😢

I’m doing a renovation on my backyard and I was told to not aerate and overseed and put top soil over it, however my ground is compacted in spots? Or put a surfactant down before seeding

My neighbors think it's a complicated process. I always said water is crucial to successful germinating

Waste of time and money unless your lawn is bare 😂
