They don't just wait for them to go out of business. They take the customer/order info of the small retailers forced to operate through Amazon to reach the market, then produce the same products, cheaper, due to their larger scale and actively compete against them. Amazon marketplace is a massive data gathering exercise for Amazon.

He's definitely a clever and funny guy, very skilled as a comedian. But it seems like some parts of his brain switch off when the topic turns to politics and then mindless reiteration of leftist talking points ensues. To give an example, rainforests being "damaged" by CO2 is a breathtakingly stupid statement.

Amazon has definitely gone downhill. It’s flooded with Chinese junk brands, and the good well made products are becoming harder to find, as the companies who sell them can’t compete with unrealistic prices. People seem to prefer to buy low priced crap instead of quality for a little more.

the problem is for example, I am not convinced that a $50 tshirt is of better quality than a $5 tshirt or is it just a name printed in front. Or how much worse is a $20 blender from $150 branded blender? imho if you're lucky they will last the same 5 years and if you're unlucky it is still cheaper to replace broken Chinese product. Big brands brought it on themselves and I won't even blink when they fall on their greedy faces and it won't be any loss to the economy because all their junk is made in china anyway.

I would too but here where I live, I would not get movies in English or original language, so I am staying, also, yes, the service is just awful and not worth paying for it actually... but it is the usual, like, enjoy it when you can because it sure will end, and not be a good service one day or another in the future. Noticed that with so many products... google plus being one example... they just love to destroy things that are valuable and worthwhile... no idea why but they always do it.

Kindle is a joke. Mine is in perfect working condition but because it was ‘too old’ they no longer allow me to purchase books. Total rip off I will never buy another one. They don’t make that clear when you buy a kindle 👎🏻

the trick is to never let a kindle go online, just get your books from illicit sources and put them on through the usb port using calibre. no software updates means it'll keep working much longer as there isn't any way to make it slower

It surely is. Less and less name brands with each year, and more and more nameless unknown junk propped up by fake reviews. There is an increasingly large side of Amazon that feels more like Temu or Wish. Louis Rossman has two videos demonstrating just how bad this issue is with electrical goods for example. Fuses and wire crimps that do not work at all, and are in fact potentially very dangerous.

How did it go downhill ? Anyway, I buy most of the things on Amazon except my groceries (don't find it convenient yet, on any platform). I'm quite happy with the service and the time I'm saving. Not sure how it's for other people but it helped shop less in general. Not sure why. Never embraced the consumerism to be fair but I'm at a point where I really buy stuff I really need. Felt like I wasn't buying more by going to a physical shop

Agreed. Amazon is mostly more expensive, and the same products can often be found cheaper on individual websites. Who needs stuff the same day? Seriously? I use Amazon maybe once a year if that, infrequently enough that I forget I even have an account. It's awful, and the site is a mess to look at, with product info hidden behind a smorgasbord of ads and other junk.

I mean, it sounded like what someone who's never actually used an e-reader would say. If you actually read a lot, then it's fantastic. Much cheaper than most regular books, lighter, more portable and easier to read for both long and short reading sessions. It's also more accessible because you can change font (size). It's also much easier on the eyes than a regular display and lasts much longer (weeks). Most of the newer models are also waterproof so you can take them to the beach/pool and I've done so. That said, amazon sucks and there are better options than the kindle.

@@crediblesalamander8056 Also also: There is literally no screen glare - So that was a mistake by Michael :) As for not working in the sun (aka you cant see it because of glare) - e-inks whole purpose is that it needs external light for it to be working (now ignoring the latest versions which do have some backlights)

I don't like how much power Amazon has over my book collection now, but a Kindle's e-ink display is an absolute game changer. However, if I were getting a new e-reader I'd probably go for a Kobo or another brand.

Amazon have recently increased the £25 spend for free delivery, to £35. I was comfortable assembling a shopping cart up to £25 but now it's less interesting and I've turned to ordering same things on Ebay.

Just one flaw. One of the big selling points of the Kjndle was that you COULD read it on the beach & in the sun. They had people using it next to the hotel pool in their ads.

And yet for decades prior people were able to read books at the beach and by the pool without an electronic device to enable it. It was hardly a selling point given that it was already possible with actual books. THE big selling point, and probably the only one that really mattered, was that a Kindle represented not just one book, but *all* your books, so you could sit by the pool with an entire library not just one book.

People buying physical books eventually realise they have bought more than they are going to ever read. But I know people who have thousands of ebooks that they will never read. 🙄 They boast about it. Soend hours organising them and browsing to find more.

That's very odd to me. The biggest advantage to me of my Kindle is that I can instantly discard a book as soon as I've finished it, and replace it with my next read. Huge save of both time and space. I'm guessing there's lots of people who don't actually read at all.

I still buy everything from there . No shop stocks size 12 shoes , no shop stocks high end power tools . Allot of things come from sports direct but i still get it via amazon because amazon are easier to return products to.

Absolutely, I don’t trust any reviews, kept getting bitten by crappy products with 4.5* reviews. It’s getting harder to find quality mainstream brands. A lot of online distributors have made buying without signing up for an account much easier. Often they match the next day delivery. Amazon did force everyone else to up their game, they’ve just allowed “direct from manufacturer” products with dubious CE compliance to flood their own marketplace and pollute their ratings with faux reviews.

You add that to a printed book, you've lost one book. Add that to a kindle and you have to buy a new device, and until you do you have lost access to ALL the books

@@kikidevine694 Nope. They're in your library on Amazon and you can go read them on your laptop anytime--or even download them to your computer. The Kindle is just another download option. I don't think my Kindle would have enough memory to store all my ebooks! Having said that, my mixture of ebooks to printed is about 30/70 percent. After the Convicted Felon lost in 2020 I stopped avoiding political/investigative reporting non-fiction and buy nearly all of them in hardback, which I think best suits the subject.

The cost of living in India is like 30-40 times less than in UK. The price of 2 bed 80sqm flat in Hyderabad is just $10K, and the energy bill on 3 bed villa with swimming pool is just $100 per annum. Its not them who are exploited, its the cost of living arbitrage, which totally disadvantages people in the "rich" countries.
