Another great video! Our daughter was watching something else on KZbin when my Mrs said, "Oh Hollie has posted" and she stopped watching she was and asked if we could watch that!! "I like Hollie" she said after! 💖

I’m not autistic but I’ve enjoyed hearing your story. I was assessed on three occasions by different therapists and I was diagnosed with a developmental delay/MLD because I couldn’t speak until the age of 5 so I was behind with social and communication skills and affected my learning. I went to a mainstream nursery school temporarily and then I moved to three special schools before mainstream college by the age of 16. I’ve always felt ashamed of being different from others of my age group. I would get labels from different professionals in social care, especially the social workers and keyworkers I was allocated to. It still hurts me! They’d call me autistic because I had fights with them in the past and assume I can’t make friends at all. I also can be sensitive which I know but I think it’s due to lack of motivation. They’d compare me to other SEN young people. At times I do show sympathy towards people and able to read their facial expression but they keep on saying I can’t read people. It’s a lie. Sometimes I misunderstand people but not often. Would you say it’s natural for us all human beings to misunderstand people sometimes? I was supposed to continue with that assessment however I felt like I was improving when I nearly turned 18. I’ve had three assessments and one from a medical professional for a disability living allowance and it has proven that I am improving the way I’ve developed in life even though I was in SEN education. So I’m doing okay. I’m still seen as a vulnerable adult even if I’m improving socially. I know I can be but I know how to take care of myself. Social services find me susceptible because I’m likely to get bullied because they don’t think I understand their intentions. It’s not that I don’t understand, it’s because I know I’m shy. They probably find me unpredictable. I’ve been trying to change for so long but I think they’ll always have the same perception of me. When they see one day becoming a big musician, they’ll see me as someone with SEN rather than who’s changed. I feel unmotivated and jealous of non-SEN people. It makes me feel stupid because of my past. I know they’re trying to support me but I’ll try not to worry about their opinions. What advice would if I want to show them change? How can I show them I’m not vulnerable? You’ve inspired me to believe in myself though. Thanks for sharing . ❤️

Thankyou so much for taking your time to comment! I like listening to these story’s makes me not feel as alone in this, the advice I can give you is to just try not to let the social services opinions of you affect you, that’s the best way to show them your not vulnerable. To just go about your life as you normally would and eventually they’ll realise for them self your an independent women! Wish you all the best x

I think u are doing great showing your experiences with autism. It seems it affects everyone similarly but also differently. I wonder if sex has more of a intense sensation since Autism is sensory syndrome. You should do a video on that since i don’t think anyone has.

This is such an amazing video. I think either way a diagnosis for me was inevitable. I was diagnosed with autism at age 7. My symptoms are pronounced enough that I can't mask at all except online, but only because I can precisely plan out what I want to say. Even when people don't know right away, they very often notice that something is different about me, such as how I am 27 years old but act like someone in her early teens. My appearance is a mixture of a teenage girl and a middle aged woman, partly due to my fashion sense. I wear pretty much the same outfit all the time with a few seasonal variations. My outfit right now is a turquoise peacoat as a blazer (unbuttoned) over a tank top, a heavy gray floor length wool skirt, and navy blue riding boots. When I go outside I button it up and often wear a heavier coat over it (my brain does not categorize my peacoat as a coat but as a shirt). I love wearing this coat so much I wish I could wear it all summer but it gets very hot during June, July, August, and September. But I have a pretty red leather skirt I wear in spring, summer, and fall that my favorite is when paired with this coat. Actually a bunch of them because I sometimes drool on it and that damages leather. I have a drooling problem unfortunately as I lack an automatic swallowing reflex. I mostly had it under control (although I would foam at the mouth when I talked) but I have regressed in so many ways over the past year.

Good post Hollie, we were wondering how much a diagnosis would help at school. Izzy is in an all girls school with about 1800 children. She really struggles and rarely goes in. Won't leave the car if she sees anyone else around. We have to wait until the bell has gone! She is top sets for subjects. We are thinking about private diagnosis. She says she likes the school but really struggles to make freindships. We are reading lots about autistic traits. You are helping me as my daughter won't open up.
@holliemabbott9494 жыл бұрын
So glad to hear that my videos are useful! I went to a independent school and I don’t think for me the diagnosis helped at all, I got the same support regardless, however since starting a public sixth form I’ve noticed how the help I’ve received has been amazing on the educational side, however I don’t feel it helps socially as I have struggled to make friends! But every school is different!

Thank you for another great video! I’d be interested to know how you overcame your issues around change. Like you say the help after diagnosis is rubbish and my recently diagnosed daughter struggles with any change in her routine. She now knows it’s irrational to an extent (which is a step forward) but I don’t know how to help her when things in her routine has to change. Also did you have any therapies that helped?
@holliemabbott9494 жыл бұрын

Getting a diagnosis can preclude one from certain careers. There again does one have to disclose it to potential employers? There are different levels on the autistic spectrum so again it varies how it effects a person,
