I was disappointed that House Hunters isn't real. They find people that have already moved and then move all their stuff out and pretend to try to figure out which one they want. I guess it makes sense. Who wants to make a choice between 3 house?

Yeah that bummed me out too! Sometimes the people on HH even have to convince people they know to move all their stuff out of their houses so that they can use their friends’ houses to pretend to “make a choice” between them. That being said, now we play the game of “which house do the contestants already own” while watching the show. It’s actually pretty fun to use clues seen around the houses and their comments to try and figure out which one they bought already, as a opposed to which one they’re going to buy. Still a fun way to see interesting properties, especially HH International!

I would love if someone would reboot and do a real house hunters. The lower costs of filming and the added flexibility of streaming compared to cable, might make it easier to be less formulaic and rely on predetermined endings. The appeal of it is voyeuristically watching house tours. It's basically just Zillow the TV show. I don't get why they needed to turn it into some fake 3 Act play.

I was lucky enough to be on a reality show in Sweden, and I get this question all the time! You're spot on about it being a mix. For my show in particular, everything was real. The producers weren't telling us what to say, but they would ask some of us to have a conversation about a certain topic so that they would have something to fill in the storyline and make everything transition smoothly. For example, maybe certain girls went on dates with the bachelor, so then the girls left at home would be asked to discuss how we think the dates are going. I was pleasantly surprised that everything was very real, but this was also a Swedish show. They are much more ruthless in the USA in regards to creating "villains" and forcing drama between people. Love the video, Scott! I'm pretty sure I've messaged you on instagram about making a video about Baggage, so this was really exciting to see lol

Certain wording can be used to get around a lot of questions. She might say 'The Ink shown on camera is 100% real", but that doesn't mean they're tattoos. Could just be tattoo ink, drawn onto the skin and left to dry, henna style. Technically she wouldn't be lying, just deceiving.

Most of those shows are (unfortunately) real, a lot of clients from tattoo shows have complained about poor quality cover-ups and being pressured by unprofessional artists, and these shows have existed for at least a decade. I don't know if the dynamics are entirely scripted, and we can't confirm that they DIDN'T really see their tattoos beforehand.

Lol I have that same question. Anytime I watch any of these so call "real" shows I look up how much of it is really real and how much is fake. If it's too fake then I don't watch it cause it's just cringe at that point. I do not understand why they can't just have it be with real genuine people and not fake reactions or weird misleading edits. I'd think most people would prefer shows where there are no scripts at all.
