The story I heard for the creation of Liquid Death is that the guy was at a concert and he saw the band members slamming down tall cans of monster. He then acquired a can to see that it’s monster branded “tour water” so the band could promote monster energy drinks. And another thing they wanted to do is make drinking water “cool” so you don’t have to be that awkward one drinking “La croix” when others are drinking beer.

All single use items are bad whether they're recyclable or not. This kind of mindset is so harmful. "Well actually it's "good" for the environment so it's definitely worth $10 and you don't have to feel bad about using them cause it's not plastic!" like how soft in the head to you have to be to buy into this shit. Also at concerts, I've never seen them give out Liquid Death in place of water bottles lol. Usually venues give out small disposable cups of water. How the hell is a $10 can of water a good solution to the plastic bottle problem at concerts that doesn't exist
@playstationallstars23 жыл бұрын
@@inyrui saying “it’s also not good” is not an answer to the question as to what’s better, and objectively cans are better for recycling than plastic. Getting rid of single use items is the goal but is not possible, you really gotta be “soft in the head” as you say to think getting rid of single use is at all feasible so the best solution is to reduce the impact, which cans do. To your point of, I haven’t seen it so it doesn’t exist means nothing as I am pointing out what I notice in my sphere of music.

@@vivianloney There are issues around aluminium mining for the cans, as well as the more single use nature of canned beverages. You can reuse plastic bottles, I do plenty of times. I am no statistician in this regard, and my research comes mainly from the statements of others; but apparently it is still rather a minute difference. Coming from the music industry (and more specifically punk/alternative) Liquid Death fills a niche that we have been needing for years. A cheap single use water that is more environmentally friendly than plastic bottles is PEEFECT for venues and concert experiences.

This lead me down a rabbit hole of looking up the pros and cons of various single use bottle options against each other. What I found out is that it's hard to say really. Aluminum has an exorbitant cost to the planet to be made, and since most cans don't use 100% recycled aluminum it may not be a much better option than something like glass. And I could not find anywhere on the website what % of there cans are recycled materials, so I boubt they are 100% because I assume they would brag about something like that. Of course the best thing for the planet is to not use single use containers at all, or limit the use of them as much as possible. But clearly the demand is around for single use bottles. This was a very long comment to say not such of anything. Sorry.
@FinickyFiddle3 жыл бұрын
Some jobs, and events (especially with covid stuff) really only have the opportunity for single serve. Did any of the research talk about how long the aluminum lasts in the environment?
@StoneSaysHello3 жыл бұрын
@@FinickyFiddle Of course. And while we are on the subject I also want to add that disabled people should not bear thr brunt of the responsibility to eliminate waste. They deserve to exist, and if that means some disabled people need to use plastic straws, they should not feel guilty about that. The end of my comment probably should have been phrased more like 'the most eco friendly thing is to produce and consume less when possible.' Or something like that. Also the place I looked did not talk about the decomposition rate of glass or aluminum. (The article did not include plastic at all, it's why I didn't include plastic in my comment)
@ObeyCamp3 жыл бұрын
This is my kind of comment. Interesting info and good food for thought.
@campbell98253 жыл бұрын
@@StoneSaysHello a majority of aluminum is recycled, also this statistic could be misleading so take it with a grain of salt but supposedly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today. As a metal it can be easily melted down and reused. Plastics and other polymers are made up of huge molecules that take forever to decompose and can't be easily reused
@cugly18753 жыл бұрын
should also be stated that the demand for single use bottles for water is in part spurred by water bottle companies. In many places of Europe water bottles are almost a nonexistent commodity since they have actually good infrastructure for public water, such as the fountains you commonly see in Switzerland

I haven't seen a bunch of marketing for this, but I saw a KZbinr describe it as water for sober people at parties so they could have a cool drink and not feel lesser drinking bottled water at the party and that kind of sold me on the concept. I also like that it's canned instead of bottled because that's infinitely more recyclable than plastic bottles.
@n00n502 жыл бұрын
I get everyone's argument. I guess the issue for me lies in the fact that people even have to come up with elaborate ways to justify their absolutely legitimate wish to not drink, for whatever reason, in whatever situation. I get the cans are cool and the branding is smart and the move is obviously much easier than to say "hey, let's find a way to make alcohol look dumb", but still, I wish there was a way for people to feel at ease with their glass of water without having to somehow upgrade it by flirting with the drinker aesthetic/culture. "eh, at least they'll leave me alone now" sure, but at the end of the day you are still trying to pass off as a drinker, you are implicitly playing by their rules of what constitues fun in a social context. Just saying.

from what I’ve read from other peoples comments is that it also helps with people keeping sober or relaxing them from like their social drinking habits and i think that that’s pretty fair. plus drinking a fancy water at an event doesn’t sound like having to go by society’s standards in any way, it just acts as like a gimmick product
