Hello Madame Day, congratulations on yet another interesting and fascinating video. As a matter of fact the recognition of Fashion as an Art Form is everyday stronger. I live in Montreal and we have had some fantastic shows where de designer has been presented as an artist. Yves Saint-Laurent, Gaultier, Dior, Balenciaga, Mugler are some of the big names with solo exhibitions, not just as collaborators or inspired by others, but as accomplished artists themselves at the Musee des Beaux Arts and the McCord Museum in town. The creative process is similar as that on other art disciplines such as painting, sculpture, architecture. Fashion, Haute Couture, involves the development of a concept, the illustration is the first step, the craftmanship involved in cut, confection, finishes, and so on are part of that knowledge. In France there are all the artisans "metiers d´arts" working on feathers, embroidery, lace, etc. that are essential on the final product. So, yes Fashion is Art! Thank you for your contribution to the divulgation and recognition of Fashion.

Hiya Doris, I’m a new sub, no idea how I missed your fab channel! Watching this was very nostalgic for me as I knew Stephen Sprouse. He was so kind to us struggling shop assistants working in funky little East Village boutiques (most all of us pursuing careers in the arts & yes I include fashion in “the arts”) & used to give us a generous discount😀. Sadly the few pieces I’d saved up for disappeared shortly after acquiring them back in the 80s due to unscrupulous roommates and/or their friends. I’m far too trusting & much I held precious is gone from that time period… oh to have them still! As to Schiaparelli, it’s sad (angering as well) people today are so ignorant of fashion history that they attribute what she originally did to modern designers copying her. Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️ PS the black & white piece w/ skulls looks very similar print-wise to a dear artist friend very active in NY at that time, makes me wonder if he inspired the design (I don’t believe it’s his design & he died far too young a few years ago so I’ve no way of giving a definitive answer).
@thewaywewore73713 жыл бұрын
Hi Jet! You sound like the kind of person that I could sit and talk to for hours! What an interesting backstory you have. Glad you found our channel and I hope that you may be able to come to visit the store sometime in the not so distant future. Wishing you all the best! Doris

@@thewaywewore7371 - I’m sure we could talk for hours! I started collecting/selling vintage in the 70s, studied fashion history since a child (I’m an autodidact, have a hard time learning traditional ways) as I was always fascinated by past designs. It’s literally in my blood as my great grandfather was a designer, so looking at old family pics likely piqued my interest. Thanks for your kind words, I’d love to visit the shop if I wasn’t on the other side of the country! J. 😘🧡

A littĺe late to this party,but always thrilled to be here and grateful that you look like your healing is going really well. Always inspiring! Loved so many pieces, the Ralph Rucci is remarkable so many innovative ideas. The dress inside is wonderfully mysterious, I love the abstract shredded quality of the floating pieces on the top of the dress and am trying to understand the construction. Many really compelling ideas conceptually and technically in that piece. I was an artist in NYC when Stephen Sprouse started. I remember standing with delight in front of a rack of his stuff and pining for irridescent green beetle sequin tights, still looking for them. I wish he would relaunch. Thankyou for his background I had no idea. Loved the potential Kiki Smith piece she has created her own jewelry line. Cocteau blouse magic! And the robe Wow!!! Delightful swim suit and dayglo first piece. I am still haunted by garments from other viewings which makes it difficult to not want to start making clothes. Love this channel and your magic, erudition, curiosity, humour, vision and love you put into it. Warm waves of love from Greece.

As an art history graduate with desires to work as a fashion curator, this was a real treat!! @@thewaywewore7371 )Thank you for the response. It helps not to feel quite alone through this process. I’m on the east cost. I’m going to subject my home though an invasive heat (expensive) heat treatment and I will continue to use the traps.

Doris, if I get out to LA, is your store open to the public now? My daughter and I would love to sometime do a road trip from NC and Denver to see your store. We're both vintage nuts.

Fashion is art! Art is fashion! Otherwise we would all be wearing a silver jumpsuit and white boots, like Brave New World! (Boring) Fashion defines us and we express ourselves through fashion.

Brave New World is super cool. I have several Cottweiler SS17 pieces that was used in production.

When I was young I had a Francis Montesinos dress that now I look back and was an art piece all prints was outrageous, but not gross, as they were virgin Mary paintings, but it was done in a very tasteful way pity I just outgrew it and now no idea where it must be, this is art on clothing

@@thewaywewore7371 I could be wrong, but the print with the palm style leaves made the robe have a more tropical feel. Which, what could be more tropical than pineapples?! 😄

Hi Beverly. I completely agree. I wanted to research more just because I love this particular subject. I will do it for myself and perhaps you should too. Consider this episode a taster T the buffet table of fashion. 😉 Thanks for your interest! Doris
