Hello for everyone, im not very sure if im going to get an answer in this place, but i hope so. Im from Chile, and im on my latest year of Automation Career at my university, and i have learned a lot of things, mostly theorethical things, like control, system identification, plant modeling, and many others as electronics, industrial instrumentation, comunication systems, etc. In this road i have learned other habilities too, like programing in python, C and C++ and also i have been in Machine Learning and robotics courses. But, at the end of the day, i just dont really know what is next now, so, lately, im looking for some clues to start. I really like understanding things from his source, like automation history, since 1.0 to 4.0, and trying to figure what kind of things are coming for us, as engineers, in the future. Thx for reading this and if you want to be helpful, please write in this comment.

Hi Dario! I have read your comment today 9th August 2022. What are you doing now? Is your Automation Engineering degree was helpful and did you choose this as your career? Did you get a job? Pls reply me. My son have started his Masters in Automation Engineering. But now he is having second thoughts. He is losing interest in this. I will wait for your reply. Thanks 😊
@dariosebastian58062 жыл бұрын
@@syedaahmad5244 Oh god, first of all, thanks you for bringing me back here, is really impressive for me to see how I can se more clearly the things right now. I finished my degree at the ends of 2021 and, meanwhile I was finishing my disertation, I got an Internship in a Automation Company called Andritz. Once i finished it I got hired, so nowadays I'm working as APC Engineer (Advanced Control Process), obviously I'm still as a Trainee Engineer. I dont know if your son started a Second Carrer (In my country we usually use the term "master" as a post-grade), but anyways, I think that Automation is one of the best careers Nowadays, at least in terms of empleability and salary, but i know that idea is just not very convincent for somebody who is starting. I think that, nowadays, in this career you are in just in the middle of the electrical engineering and computer science, so there are a lot of things you can do. But althought this career is a very good choice, I'm one of those ones that thinks that it will not have sense if you study something that you don't really like. But if he likes maths, physics, computer science, electronics, and so on, I think this is a really good option. At the end of the day, the 8 hours working routine is just what it is. I could advice him that if he's losing interest, he may start joining groups to start developing other abilities, or just for making friends and hanging out. Studying is really hard if you don't have time to de-stress out. I spent my first four years studying a lot of theory that seemed to have no connection, so I was a pretty bit lost at the beginning, but that's just normal. I think one of the things that worked a lot for me was never stop looking for that connection. But as I said, I could not have reached this position if I had not had time to dedicate myself to other things or just to have fun with friends

Sorry Bro. Totally disagree on lot of stuff that you emphasised. Firstly, I personally know many experienced process automation specialist struggling to find decent job. They happen to be my close friends, so take my word seriously. I personally observe first hand, automation market in process industry is so saturated that you find an automation engineer every other two bricks you lift. Optimism is good but too much being optimistic is lethal. The future is in green buildings and there is a dire need of building automation engineers. We are facing shortage of skilled BMS professionals and ready to pay top dollar but Building management skills are rare to find. More work and less skilled BMS professionals.
