I fly from LHR to JFK regularly and always choose the flight with a 747 so that I can sit upstairs. Yes, the plane is old and it's about a 50% chance of having an older entertainment sytem, but it's worth it (for me) to re-live my boyhood dream of sitting upstairs in the Queen of the Skies. When they are all retired, I'll have fond memories of having always flown on them when I had the chance! #livinginthemoment

@@robyoungquist5803 I haven't flown on Swiss in many years. I usually fly Air Canada, United or Westjet, sometimes Lufthansa. Just recently I had a trip that involved Air Canada, Emirates and Etihad. I've never had to pay for seat selection in business class on any airline. Maybe I've been just lucky. Whatever the case is, charging a selection fee for a seat that already cost thousands of Dollars is ridiculous.

As an important correction, BA do NOT charge for seat selection in Business Class if you are on a FULL fare - for higher fare categories seat selection is FREE for ALL!

Always enjoy your reviews Dennis and this was excellent. I am a frequent flyer on BA so it's great to see they have improved their Club Class cabin which I have always disliked. As a Gold Exec Club card member I do avoid the seat reservation fees and wasn't aware of this but agree it's ridiculous to charge passengers in this way. They'll be charging for food next! I hope they see sense.

If you find yourself back in T5, as one world emerald (ba gold) you can use the first wing to check in, takes you through a private security lane and straight into the First lounge, definitely worth doing! Nice video :)

Actually you can select the seat for free at the time of booking if you are OneWorld Sapphire or above. I did that on my recent BA booking although I’m only BA Blue. I look at this as one of the great perks for higher status flyers. Safe travels

That wasn’t the First Class Lounge that was the Business Class Lounge. The First Class Lounge is called the Concorde Lounge and only available to First Class Passengers. BA have upgraded their Club seat over the past 20 years not the actually seat but new IFE system better food different seat coverings etc. You never had to have eye contact with the person sitting next to you on the old seat as you had a privacy screen you could put up after take off. Having said all that I much prefer the new seat configuration.

David Foreman BA calls it their F lounge so it is what Dennis called it. Yes, there is the Concorde lounge for ticketed F passengers and upper tier BA Golds. This is no different from how SQ and QR offer both F lounges and segregated lounges for F passengers. BTW Dennis, thought OW Sapphire and Emeralds from other programs could also choose seats free on a reciprocal basis though appears from your experience this may no longer be the case.

As a oneworld Emerald member you could've used the First Wing to check-in and proceed through security directly to the Galleries First lounge. If you have your oneworld Emerald (or Sapphire) number in the booking, you will also be able to select seats for free from the time of booking. Great video as always.

Great review, as always. It is nice to see that BA is improving their business class product. I love the privacy their suites offer. I agree though, that fee to select your seat is outrageous. Hope your brief visit here in Canada was a good one! Although truth be told, Toronto Pearson is not the most enjoyable airport. I try and fly through Montreal Trudeau whenever I can to avoid Pearson!

Dennis.... Great video on the whole however I have a couple of questions/data points for you. 1. Why as a One world Emerald did you feel the need to pay for seat reservations when you are eligible to receive it for free? 2. You mention when travelling on a full fare ticket. If you were on a full fare (J/C) you'd also get it for free. It's only the discounted fares where you have to pay. The fact people do stump up the fees probably says why BA still charge. And they've been charging for a good 10-15yrs now. If people didn't bother then perhaps the fee would get abolished. Otherwise you have redeemed yourself with a fair and relevant video. Nice work 👍

Yes, with a family of 4, we once ended up paying almost an extra USD700 round trip to LHR from HKG just for reserving seats! Quite outrageous. Now, having travelled enough on them to become higher tier members, we get the privilege of free seat booking at time of reservation......no free lunch in this world after all 😂

My hub airport is Dallas/Fort Worth. When traveling to Europe a lot of the flights require you to go thru Heathrow and BA business class flights can be cheaper on Business class compared to AA. I still avoid BA because of the business class seat the have. Glad to see they have stepped their game up. Hopefully they will fly the new business class to dfw!

Charging for a desired seat in business class is BA "BLOODY AWFUL" BA has very narrow Business class and First class seats widthwise so be aware for the larger guest. I loved BA in the days of Club class.The seats were large the service so British and the food divine. BA is now known as an upmarket budget carrier and I tend to agree. Long gone are the days of opulent travel aboard. In my opinion the jury is out about BA's ratings today. There are so many compeditors that do such a much better job.Sad BA use to be "The worlds favourite airline"but sadly not anymore.
