There's a price at which keeping Baker is a no brainer, there's also a price at which passing on him is also a no brainer. Hang onto him until there's a viable option. You don't want to end up playing QB carrousel like the Broncos

We’ve been there. Before Baker we had like 20 QB’s in less than 20 years. I agree with you the most in the comments. He isn’t not ‘it’, but he isn’t ‘it’ either. It really depends on the price. His career QBR is higher than Joe Flacco, and that guy played 11 seasons with the Ravens and won a super bowl. I’d rather keep him until finding something else

@@AlexRollinsNFL Baker plays on a run heavy team that's tops in the league for rushing yards and likely rushing TDs each year, and on every pass play 60% or more of his receivers are TEs and RBs. TEs and RBs are not averaging the same YPC as a true WR would. The Stefanski system is what the Stefanski system is and Baker has stats comparable to Drew Brees when he was on the Chargers. Its not his fault his running backs rush for 3,000 yards and his receivers are tight ends. They have a goal line offense on the field for every play. No other team does this. That last part is somewhat sarcastic but everyone who comments on Baker largely or completely misses the teams roster design and Stefanski systems effects on Bakers play and stats.

@@AlexRollinsNFL What if OBJ truly doesn't have IT anymore? And that's what the team needs. Theres no one that spreads the field. Landry is a slot kinda guy catching short passes. You have to find an elite QB first. They don't exactly grow on trees. Unless a proven guy like Russel Wilson or Aaron Rodgers falls into the Browns' lap (or they get a steal in the draft) they may be better off sticking with Baker for the time being. Assuming he stays cheap that is. At least then they can have a roster that a Russel Westbrook or Aaron Rodgers may find attractive.
@TheMelnTeam
@TheMelnTeam 2 жыл бұрын
Where do you think they will get one? Though if they can, they should. Meanwhile, probably franchising Mayfield will be the best option. Maybe he can improve enough, but even if he doesn't you don't get another Keenum year and can be safely dumped w/o a long-term commitment. I don't think the marginal loss of roster strength from the franchise deal will be greater than the damage of playing with dumpster fires at QB when it comes to developing the other players on offense. For every successful "suck for Luck", there are lots of other teams that just have a gutted roster and extend their rebuild time.

Yeah if only it was as easy as just getting an elite QB. It’s a problem of contracts. If you can retain Baker at a fair price, then yeah, you do it. If you have to pay Baker top dollar, then you have to make to the painful choice and let him walk.

@@AlexRollinsNFL yea today was a “decent” performance but I expected more from him. I’m not complaining cause we won and he didn’t have a terrible game but it seemed like he only had one really good drive. It’s hard cause this offense is not built correctly nor coached correctly. Waddle is a star but we can’t even use him correctly cause Tua doesn’t have enough time behind this o line. I don’t think Tua is close to his ceiling. He’s still only in his second year with an offense that is below average. I want a REAL OC with a decent OL and reliable WR (get rid of DVP he’s always hurt). The future is bright in Miami if they fix this o line and go get a number 1 WR to compliment Waddle. Flo needs to figure out how to win in the beginning of the season cause he’s always hot in the 2nd half of the season. Anyways I’m still proud of my QB1 and I truly believe he is the franchise guy. Finally, thank you. I've been searching far and wide for someone to give an intelligent unbiased breakdown of a Baker. The mad ravings we get from espn and others, just put people in pro-Baker and anti-Baker sides without either side (which this Country has perfected) not being able to explain why they've taken their position, other than hysterical hyperbole. I am also so pleased you mentioned Bakers lack of 'touch' in his passing, which I believe for a short statured Qb, makes it impossible for BM to become anything other than 'eh' The high throws and tip passes have been so numerous in the 2nd half of the season. OBJ season reveals this so clearly - the 2nd half of the season with the Rams statistically is almost identical as the first half with the Browns, apart from TDs. The 'touch' pass to the corner of the end zone, which is OBJ's meat and drink, his iconic one-handed grabs, the reason for his fame was never executed by BM from my knowledge not a single time, has been responsible for almost all of OBJ's TDs with the Rams, which Stafford executes with ease. Couple this with his lack of mental adjillity, which was expertly portrayed in this assessment, which really explains Stefanski's issues with play calling this year. Thanks, man.

Hopefully we can see how a healthy Baker responds next year. What the Browns need in order for this young team in order to grow is stability. Browns front office needs to remain patient. There is a guy not starting in the NFL that is a better QB than about half of the NFL starters, that man is Gardner Minshew. If the right team traded for him now that he is a back-up in Philly, he would be highly successful. I do want to cut him some slack due to injury but not because of the other reasons you brought up. He's the highest sacked QB when pressured on non playaction passes which is a result of him holding on to the ball too long (and why he's always scrambling) and he couldn't make the Odell situation work because he's not talented enough and that's why they have a lacking WR group

@ScottCleve33

@@tosh.0reddy728 Baker just processes the game too slowly. You can tell on a simple slant in where he releases the ball on the count of three he looks like a pro bowl QB. Strong arm and usually on the money. On the other hand if a defense can disrupt that timing, say maybe a lineman gets a hand up or the CB has the receiver covered, and Baker as to now start going through his progressions or has to double pump before releasing his game quickly goes downhill. This is why Baker looks so inconsistent. When everything is right he looks great but when his rhythm is disrupted things fall apart quickly and he then has to start processing thing. His best plays are one he doesn't have to process. He simply goes through the step.

Baker is a good QB not near elite. But supply and demand demands you pay good QB’s the premium. The browns have enough talent to be a threat in the playoffs and Baker helps the teams so I think the browns have to keep him if they want to guarantee they’re still competitive.

Is there such thing as a 3/4 back? Is that just a wing back type thing?

Baker is a mediocre QB, just because he's the best QB the Browns have had in several decades that doesn't mean that he's great. If they are smart & if they are able the Browns organization need to somehow acquire a competent QB & trade Baker.

I hear so many fans say ask how the Browns would be able to replace Baker but I don't think it's as difficult as they think. The Browns run such a run heavy offense that doesn't require the pure arm strength of a Baker Mayfield. At this time the Browns would be better off with a QB that can make the reads and adjustments and be able to process the game rather than having a pure rocket arm but little more. I don't think it takes a Rogers or Wilson to do that. I've seen Baker outplayed by backup QBs with less talent around them than Baker has.

@@ScottCleve33 There are more than enough average QBs floating around & available who could do a better job than Mayfield if added to the Browns roster right now. No, the Browns do not need a Rodgers or Wilson (as great as that would be). They just need a consistent QB that can manage the game and make at least a handful of good plays down the stretch. Imagine if the Browns had a QB like Jimmy G. Garoppolo might not be a Brady or Mahomes but when surrounded with a lot of talent he wins more often than not - unlike Mayfield.

@@kazokadas Despite his failings Jimmy G is a far better QB than Mayfield. At least Garopolo has on occasion had game winning drives in important games, not in the biggest of games, but still in some big ones. Only time I've seen him really choke was in the SuperBowl. Yet anytime Mayfield has the ball in his hands with two minutes left in the game he'll turnover the ball or go three & out. When Mayfield got the ball back with a chance to win the game against the Ravens I already knew the Brown were going to lose. It's not even funny.

Browns need to focus on building an elite defense to stop Allen Mahomes and Burrow. Bc it's unlikely the Browns can get a QB to go head to head with those guys in AFC playoff games.
