Thanks so much for your thoughts on this topic man! Great video. Edit: I’d like to make it clear my video is NOT about Beardbrand or ANY brand specifically. I simply used the words of one of the biggest brands and names in our industry to try to demonstrate my point that across the board beard products (beard oil specifically in my video) generally cost about the same to produce. Are there exceptions? Yes, that’s true with anything. I also want to make it clear that I did NOT say there was anything wrong with those margins or prices and that they weren’t justified in other areas. I just used those numbers to try to demonstrate my point. Thank you all for watching and for your interest in this topic. In order to have a better understanding of where I’m coming from, I encourage you to watch this video as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3nMZ4KMqp6Bbtk

Hey guys, founder of Beardbrand here. I appreciate you chiming in and sharing your take on the situation. Randy's knock on Beardbrand was that we aren't making premium products, which I'd gladly argue that not only are we making premium products but we also serve as a benchmark for other companies. How do I know? Because I regularly see orders come in from our competitors. Randy was getting into the semantics of what it means to be premium and his argument is that it's only the ingredients inside the bottle. My argument is that what makes something premium is the entire company. In my opinion, packaging, service, R&D, education, return policy, unboxing experience, online shopping experience, and mission all come into play for what is and what is not premium. After all, you could have a single Motel 6 hotel be really nice quality, but the reality is it'll never compare to Westin across the board. After all, both hotels have rooms, beds, sinks, pillows, etc. Quality isn't measured in just the ingredients, but also the handling of those ingredients, the specific formulation of those ingredients and how they play together, and distribution of products. Beardbrand is on a mission to foster confidence through grooming and that means we provide copious amounts of education, resources, and guidance to our viewers. We have no problem with people watching our videos, becoming better versions of themselves and making the world better. Supporting our company and buying our products are awesome and we're always grateful for people's business. We've been nothing but transparent with the way we run our business, how our products should perform and what you are getting from them. Beardbrand is my passion and not something I'm doing to make a quick buck. It was started out of my personal struggles of growing a beard and it's the same reason why we can make 700+ videos, and talk about beard care & grooming non-stop for 6+ years. In my personal life, I value a well designed brand, a company with a mission, high quality ingredients, robust product offering, incredible customer experience, and nice materials. But not everyone is going to have those same values and will value products differently. If you don't value those things, then maybe Beardbrand isn't the right product for you. If anyone has purchased from us and is not 100% happy, we'll gladly exchange or refund our products. There is no risk in buying from us and we'll bend over backwards to make customers happy. It's a big part of the reason we've been able to grow and get repeat business from our customers. It's because they love the products, they love the experience, and we've helped improve their lives. Thanks to all who read this message and KEEP ON GROWING!

Eric Bandholz To reiterate my comment on Randy's video. I think circumstances like this truly highlight the character of Beardbrand. As evident in your response, even when facing negativity, I've repeatedly seen you and your team take the high road. Personally, that increases my confidence that y'all stand by what you do. Keep up the brilliant work!

Again you take the High Road, Eric. You rock. Its an interesting discussion. I’ve always loved the vision behind beardbrand. I like Randy’s videos as Well. Both Seem like stand up dudes. I live in Denmark and its more expensive for me to get American beard oils because of import taxes. Eric and Company thought of that and ship out of Ireland i believe. So now i Can get their stuff at no Extra cost. Not a lot of American beard grooming companies Think of that. Ive nevet tried oils from either companies. Ive bought two Combs from beardbrand and i was impressed with their quality in product and service. Some Day i’ll order from Randy too. I like trying different stuff. I Think its important to be sceptical and have a discussion but remember Eric and Company aren’t the stingy Uncle Scrooge who are trying to screw over people. And Randy isn’t a jealous shitstorm starter. And beardtube. You are just plain awesome. Haha no discussion there. Buuurrp

Beardbrand’s ingredients are better than the large companies like Dove and Axe who are jumping on the bandwagon of beard care. They put in lots of silicone and preservatives, and are not active in the bearding community. I don’t think Beardbrand has issues with smaller companies that use all natural ingredients. They are going after the big guys. Kind of like Budweiser vs small microbreweries. Beardbrand got many of us in the game allowing us to diversify out to smallest companies teaching us a tremendous amount along the way!

I love watching beard brand videos. Eric does a good job at making me feel better about myself and my beard. I have knuckled down and purchased there products once. I couldn't continue because I just can't afford it. I can get, what I feel, the same quality product from my local beauty supply store. I'm a working man and have to care for my beard on the cheap. Enjoyed the video. Been watching your channel for a long while now.
@savior76gd6 жыл бұрын
Beardbrand was the first beard oil I tried when I first realized that "caring" for my beard was actually a thing. Before, I was just using hair shampoo and conditioner and always hated the way it made my beard feel. Without even paying a whole lot of attention to the price, I bought like $80 worth of stuff (Spiced Citrus - wash, softener, oil and maybe a balm) and tried to justify the price afterwards with how long I thought it would last me. Their product is awesome, no doubt about it. But as a single father of three, I have sought cheaper products elsewhere (quite a few from this channel in particular) as I just can't afford the higher end scents that I want from them. Feels bad because I really like their stuff, but I gotta take my wallet elsewhere for the time being and treat Beardbrand as a luxury item that I can splurge like once a year on.

I like BeardBrand. Good products and great social media presence. I like how Eric built such a company from nothing. I believe his passion. There are tons of beard products companies saturating social media now. And many companies just hire bearded models and pose with their beard products in the shower. Eric and others actually get in front of the camera and take the time to engage their community. I can honestly say they helped me in growing my first beard and I've stuck with them. Some bearded dudes get so fucking smug and dismiss premium products right away. YES, you can buy cheap beard oil. YES, you can make your own. YES, you can lather on even cheaper coconut oil. But they do have good products. And brand loyalty is a thing. I buy other beard oils that are much cheaper but I always keep BeardBrand oils and balms on hand. And their large comb? It's fantastic.

Beardbrand is a brand name beard oil company. That's why they can charge whatever they want. They are the Nike of beard companies. While they have very similar ingredients to other beard companies, they have some of my favorite scents (temple smoke - WOW!). Like you, I can appreciate their success from a business point of view. People don't have to buy their products, but they do... BeardTube when you get your stuff on the market, you could be the adidas of beard companies!! :O

Just got some Artius man samples and boss man jelly and balm. Love the citrus fire but not sure how you use the midnight rider often, smells like I just drank a fifth of Jager. Liking boss man but it doesn't seem to absorb into my beard very well unless I soften it with warm water and then dry it to damp. Ever had that issue? Also I've always used balm and new to oil. I'm using about a dimes worth but it seems to disappear quickly without a noticable difference. Do I use a lot more if I have a longer (6" beard)?

I love Beardbrand Old Money oil and balm. However I live in Canada and by the time I pay $40 for oil and $35 for balm, converted to Canadian dollars and include shipping, taxes and duties, it costs me about $150 Canadian dollars. no, and neither is Live Bearded \ All beard products do the same thing, hydrate the beard hair. The differences between them are scents, thickness of the oil/balm, mat or oily finish on the beard hair & of course price. Biggest difference I see is how its being marketed. Beard brand definitely leads in this area with quality videos on a daily basis. They do this by having several key people like Greg B, Carlos C, Jeff B, Mahesh. All these guys look good and have great looking beards making videos and plugging in Beardbrand products. Bottom line marketing, marketing, and more marketing.

I have honestly watched all (ok i lie, probably 90%) of your videos (your video on using a foil shaver has been a life saver no more messed up lines), 90% of Beardbrand, and the same for Beardtube. All of you have motivated me (still having issues with neck line and going for length, i feel the longer it is the fatter i feel). Being Canadian I can't justify buying from any of the companies I have seen your reviews on as it is a small fortune (for a bottle of old money from Beardbrand would be $74cdn to my door, if it made it). Either way i appreciate the help you have all given (start selling in Canada!) And always recommend you all to people who ask me about my beard! Keep up the great bearding!

after this last year of reviewing pretty much just male products, I have noticed that there is very little difference in beard oils and them being basically the same, it really does come down to scent and texture for me. some are more oily some are a bit less but for the most part, the ingredient lists are the same. now yes some have better grade oils but even the ones that use lower grade seams to still do the job well. great thoughts and im going to have to go over to beard booze and check out his video now

I've got nothing against Beardbrand. But they have excelled at appealing to the trendy hipster bearded, which don't always have issues with prices, since keeping up with the times and trends can cost some. When I was thinking of re-growing my beard I wanted to do it better than my previous beards, so I hit up youtube for tips n such. Of course Beardbrand came up first, and while they have s great channel, I dunno it just didn't appeal to me, seeing models, literally models give me quick advice just didn't work. That's why I like Scuba since he's the perfect everyman, he reminds me of some of my friends and his advice has been my go to ever since. So yeah, buy what you want, it's your money, but just know that you can't rub "Brand Experience" on your beard.

Happy birthday Scuba! Support of a beard goods product/company is just like any other. You can either go for the big name brand if you like and can afford it or you may want to find less well known and less expensive products. I personally go for the latter. All of the beard products I have were found in chain or discount stores. One thing I love about Beardtube is he tries a variety of companies, not chained down to one product or company

BEARDBRAND was really helpful to me too.Gave a positive view on beardsmen that was great. I was a loyal watcher. At some point, Eric and others, shaved their beards (keeping their mustache) and were pushing this look. This wasn't something I could relate to or was interested in. It felt like they were trying to become a men's style company, leaving the "beardsmen positivity" behind. I haven't visited their site/youtube, etc. in a very long time.

I am not on anyone’s side here. I’ve reviewed a fair amount of products on my channel. I haven’t been around to long but I do like beardbrand. I think I’m right where you land on it Scuba. Beardbrand is not the only company pulling in 90% on profits. Look at Nike and Adidas like Scuba said, they probable pay around $4 to make a pair of Jordan’s and sell them for $130. They have affordable products with their white line, charging $15 for a ounce of beard oil and $15 for a 3.4oz of beard balm (which is very affordable) you don’t have to pay for the gold line. I asked Eric right out if scent is the only different factor between the white line and gold line and he says yes. So, if it’s your cup of tea they rock it, if not their are hundreds of other companies out there to try.

The Beard Dream. I totally agree with you man. The only thing that gets me with beard brand and this is just my opinion of course, is not only the high price of some of their products but its like they lost the personal touch that they once had maybe because they are so big but. Like no b.s., both scotts randy, and scuba they don't have to try to make content it just happens because its all about growing beards where beard brand kinda got away from that a little bit and its all about pumping out videos and the bottom line

bastard with a beard yeah, I can totally see what your saying for sure. When I seen them in Target I was excited, but at the same time I was kind of let down. They didn’t seem like this holy grail company anymore because now their products were so assessable. Kind of like they were selling out a little. They do a live stream every Tuesday at 3pm where they do style consultations and answer questions. You should stop in there sometime and ask some questions or make some comments about it. One thing they do try to still do is explain themselves and interact with the public. But yeah, I totally get what your saying brother.

This really applies to everything we buy as consumers. You’re not just buying a product or a company’s claims and service. You’re buying a feeling. The $180 shoes on my feet probably cost $10 or less to make, but the feeling I get wearing them is what gives them value. As shallow as it sounds, They make me feel better about myself when they are on my feet. I own cheaper and more comfortable shoes, but I don’t get the same feeling of self worth wearing them. Companies know and capitalize on this. It’s basic marketing. Make someone believe they are better off because they own your product. Price does not always reflect quality as we are all aware. It is ultimately up to the individual to decide if the value of a product is worth the price a company places on it. Sometimes facts are facts and a product isn’t worth the price, but the feeling of owning said product is. I like the way Beardbrand’s Old Money balm smells and made my beard and skin feel. I also very much enjoyed the feeling and confidence wearing the product gave me as a person, so I felt the price reflected the value. I did own and enjoy cheaper beard products, but the feeling I had while wearing these products was not the same even though I’m the same guy at the end of the day, regardless of the products on my face or the labels on my clothing.

I've been using different barbers lately, so I've seen a few over the last six months or so - twice a month. Almost all of them remark about how healthy my beard is, and every single one of them has asked me what products I use. I simply care for my beard, hair, and body the way I learned from the Beardbrand videos. Before I found them I really didn't invest much in myself, and for any company to have that much of a positive impact on me is just amazing. I'm not easy to change.

Like I said to Randy and like you said, Beard Brand was one of my go to channels in my first year of beard growing. Making a profit is not a bad thing to do. The issue lies in the fact that beard oil companies are throwing out the word "premium" as if they're using some sort of rare and magical formula. Grant it their are companies, like Creemo, who use too much carrier oil and not enough essential oil (the thickness of the oil, or viscosity). But, that's just my opinion. If I had the money, I would buy beard oil from most of my fav beard oil channels because I appreciate the content they put out. Not because their oil will grant me three wishes or whatever "premium" stands for.

In my experience when a product is repackaged for a niche market the prices soar. For example, there is a rubber sheeting used for roofing that is also packaged by the same manufacturer for water gardening enthusiasts to use as pond liners. The roofing version even contains an additional additive to resist fungi omitted from the pond version because it's toxic to fish. The pond version is geared to the niche market so it costs substantially more even though it's basically the same thing as the roofing liner.

Happy birthday bud! I had previously watched the Beard Booze video (yesterday oddly enough) and I totally appreciate the perspective. Personally the first beard oil I bought was like $40 for one oz. And I honestly thought well if the price is more it must be better. I was wrong that stuff was awful. Since I watching Beardtube I have tried a few other brands that are way cheaper and feel like they have higher quality. I will say, beard brand puts a ton of money into both marketing and sharing beard knowledge. In any product category there will be the behemoths who charge more but likely spend more on overhead and other costs of doing business, and there will be smaller operations that are a labor of love or passion about something and they may be priced a bit lower. It comes down to the consumer. Be smart, do research, read reviews. And most importantly spend your money in a way that you dont regret it later.

I like your style beard tube/scuba, the whole thing about pricing of the products of EVERYTHING that the customer wants to buy is up to the customer if the price is worth it. Innovation can be the reason for price as for example outside of the bearded world is yeti and their cooler tumblers line in comparison to others like hydroflask and others. To go after some companies or competition of companies I feel is more marketing than anything else. Sometimes it’s worth it to the customer sometimes not as much. Scuba you do try to always state your opinion and admit that one size doesn’t fit all and that is why I try my best to support your channel. Thank you for the forum to express these ideas in a constructive manner!

Well, I've had a beard for some years now, yet, only got into grooming as much the past couple of years, and though Beardbrand didn't necessarily get me into it, I do credit them with the amount of information I have now. Alongside that, being someone who lives in Europe, I can safely say their products are the best I can get here. So, I'm sticking with it. Is it "overpriced"? Maybe. But if I'm willing to pay 5 euros for a Starbucks, I have no problem spending 30-40 for a beard oil from a group of people who put time into their craft.

Maybe this video is way outdated today, but BB oil is $10/oz online while Artius Man is $16/oz. The white labels on Amazon are still $15/oz and I much prefer the BB scents to anything I’ve tried of AM. I don’t know the price history but they seem to be priced VERY competitively now.

Happy Birthday & thanks for sharing your thoughts on products & pricing. I respect beardbrand for the people & knowledge they’ve always brought to the industry (they “taught” me a lot) even though I don’t have rss to buy a lot of their products. So thanks for your reviews. I get to see your reaction to stuff before WE start buying s... And, again, Happy Birthday!

My brother ordered me some oils and balms from beard brand as a gift and tbh it was pretty good stuff but i probably couldnt afford to use it on a regular basis. Shit after i pay all my bills i normally only have about 120 bucks left over every month so i tend to stay on the cheaper side. All in all as long as you take care of your beard dont over wash it and use some kind of softener like oil or lotion you will have a healthy beard that will look good. Its all about how you take care of yourself. Not necessarily how much money you spend on products. Having product for your beard definitely helps but even just a little bit of cheap beard lotion from walmart will go a long way for making your beard look healthy..

Awesome video man!! Happy motherfriggin birthday!!! I honestly have a few beardbrand oils. And moustache waxes. The price is very steep for what your getting. I feel although the wax smells amazing it definitely is a little weak and could use more hold. Every oil I own from them especially the spiced citrus smells great. Texture and quality I feel is the same as a few bottles I've even paid 8 bucks for although I haven't tried and of the premium beardbrand just silver line products. Artius Man is I feel has the most premium feeling oil. Just a little bit goes a long way. I've never tried a thicker oil. But because of pricing I would definitely stick to something less expensive but I won't necessarily stop purchasing beardbrand because it is good shiznit! I would just rather have a broader collection than just a few beardbrand products. I have to try some of Randy's stuff though.

I disagree if they have 4 or more oils blended. Doing it yourself will cost more than 100 bucks. Essentials being the most expensive at top tier oils. Yes you have a years supply or more but shelf life becomes an issue.

So, I haven't really been big into taking care of my beard for long (maybe about 8 months or so, since I started my yeard), but I've tried out about 7 or 8 different company's beard oils and 4 different balms. I didn't get to try out Beardbrand until this week when I found that their stuff was actually at a local Target. After using the oil in conjunction with the utility balm, my beard still felt soft and hydrated after a day and a half of no other products. I'm not sure if it is about the particular ratios of the oils or what, but it felt like it lasted a lot longer. I'd be willing to chalk this up to a placebo affect, but my girlfriend thought the same thing. It felt like this combo lasted longer than Bossman's Beard Jelly and Artius Man's oil and balm combo (which I do love). I haven't gotten to try any of the silver or gold lines of Beardbrand's stuff, but for some reason, it just feels like there's something different there. Maybe it's just me, I dunno. That's just my thoughts.

3$ to 30$ is a 900% margin, not 80-90%, if you only account for the price of the oil that is. Of course that doesn't take in account packaging, delivery and marketing but they'd have to spend about 13$ extra per bottle to arrive at a 80-90% margin. Propably the margin for the oil is higher than for their other stuff so the overall margin evens out at about 80%.

They’re a well branded company so they can set there prices to whatever they want. From my understanding is that the pricing is the same as when they first started, it’s not like they got popular and then put the price up like some other company’s do. I’m from Australia and most of the beard products that are made here are quite expensive $20-$30 for a bottle of beard oil. Great video man and happy birthday mate 👍
@tylerhair90676 жыл бұрын
The thing with the cheaper oils is in the scents. The scents are always better with the more expensive brands, and the scents last MUCH longer than the cheaper ones. I have tried them all and this has been pretty much universal across the board. So yeah, if you don’t really care about scent, get something less expensive. But if you do want a nice smell that lasts all day, go higher end. You will not be disappointed.

This is such an interesting discussion. In marketing and even product development and packaging, they use buzz words and certain colors to sell more. Premium is a buzz word, gold line is a buzz color and title. From what ive read in the comments from Eric and Randy and others, the premium aspect of beard brand is the ecosystem, and experience. Which for me personally i don't care. I throw away the packaging, they have amazing customer service, and they are the "beard" brand to get. But I couldn't find a scent i loved from them that was better than my Grave before shave or apothecary 87. In the hair industry the physical tools matter, beard brands scissors may be premium, where it cuts the hair, not tear it, the combs may be of better quality of casting and such. Hair dressers buy 300 to 3000$ scissors... Does it make them a better hair dresser? No, but using high quality tools makes it easier and consistent. I can't find a difference in actual oils. In the oils they may put more of certain oils in pricier oils. Who knows, only eric haha I personally dont think a 10 to 25% mark up is warranted. But im just one guy.

Happy Birthday, Scuba! How much time could you save not burping? I looked again at Beard Booze's video, and saw he has the class to pin Eric's response. I liked their exchanges, and I like both of them (you, too). I don't use much product, and have had some (from various manufacturers) go bad on me -- sometimes the product itself, sometimes its scent. Making or buying something -- cars, clothes, spaghetti sauce, or beard care products -- has a lot of room for decisions about which others may disagree. I don't believe disagreement justifies disrespect or discourtesy, and applaud the respect and courtesy maintained.

Ok, new to all this learning about beards things. My husband has tried for probably 20 plus years to grow a thick, healthy beard. He was gifted one whose ingredients are different-ish from what you and Randy mentioned. I know being new to the whole bearded/ing/er community means not knowing much, so maybe some help without telling me to go google would be nice. Here is the ingredients list of the one my husband uses Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract He uses this product after every shower and has grown in a nice healthy thick beard in just a few short months. He was never able to grow a non-patchy beard that didn't feel like a brillo pad on my face until now. So would these ingredients be in the same category as the ones in the ripoff type "premium" oils, or is this beard oil one of those other actually good products? It was given to him and before I try to replenish his supply, I just wanted to know if it's actually worth it.

Like many things. This is subjective. If you like it and your budget fits. Get it. It's the same thing as buying a Starbucks coffee for 9 bucks. You pay for the product but also the experience. With this type of niche thing. It's about building and cultivating a community. From a business sense it has monetary value. Ultimately it's up to the consumer to do the research and explore which product is better for him.

Is there really even a difference in beard oils and bombs, and I guess waxes (aside from medium/strong holds) too? Or does it just come down to which company has the scents you like and how they treat the customers? Regardless, I really recommend The Luxurious Bastard products. Smell awesome, and the guy the owns it is super cool!

I agree that the price differential between beard oil brands is insane. They all have the same basic ingredients. The scents are the selling points for me. I have some scents that I prefer but I can't afford to use daily. $30 - $40 dollars for a 2oz bottle isn't feasible for a working class guy with a family. Places can charge these prices because people will pay it. You want my business? sell me a 4oz bottle of my favorite scent for $25 w/free shipping. I will support your brand and buy other swag from you. Other guys ask me about my beard daily and I tell them to find a basic scent on Amazon and go wit that. Occasionally treat yourself to something "premium". Who cares about the "unboxing experience"? It's Simple. Don't try to come across as elitist because you charge more than others. A Big Mac is a Big Mac even if you call it Le Big Mac
@Chris-or7it6 жыл бұрын
It's about personal preference. Some people are willing to spend over $150 for jeans while others spend less than half on Levi's. People are willing to spend that much money because either they are convinced that spending more correlates to better quality or they want the status of wearing a popular brand. For some, the name alone is worth it and has some inherent value regardless of whether the product is actually worth the money. For others, the product might work for them and without knowing there are other more affordable options that on par, they stick with the more expensive brand. Part of the issue is that Beardbrand did a great job at marketing by using a digital marketing firm (www.mwi.com/about/) so a lot of guys happen to come across the brand when searching for beard products. Guys may not do a lot of research and instead go with what seems popular. In my personal experience in trying their beard oil and balm, it didn't perform as well as other brands. Plus, I didn't like their scent profiles.

I make my beard oil by myself. I simply buy different oils (mostly argan and almond) and essential oils (lemon, pine, sandal, lavender, rosemary, mint...) and make my own combinations. It's about three times cheaper compared to some "fancy" stuff. Then again, I respect somebody's wish to spent their own money the way they want.

Beardbrand has 4 oz beard oils while most everyone else is selling in a 1-2 oz bottle. $40 for a 4oz bottle compared to $20-$25 for other companies selling in a 1-2oz bottle. Who's ripping who off? I love beardbrand. Their utility oil has done wonders on my face and neck skin as well. Also in hindsight, we as men are paying far less for self care products than women so it's still a huge win.

There is such a thing as Premium Beard oil. I have several nephews who have beards and I make beard oil for them all the time. Some are more expensive than others. Not 30+ dollars expensive but some ingredients ( scents) are very expensive. I wouldn’t pay over $25 for a beard oil unless the scent was so unique that I couldn’t get it anywhere else.
