With Tears of the Kingdom being released soon, an entire 6 years after Breath of the Wild... it had me really thinking about its potential impact on the Zelda series, and it seems to draw several parallels with how Resident Evil 4 impacted the Resident Evil series.
This channel primarily focuses on full game reviews, expensive game reviews, Top 10s, and radical gaming challenges.
Next game coverage and Top 10 is Blast Corps for the Nintendo 64.

Great comparison man! Both games changed the landscape for both series. For some change is super hard and it takes awhile for people to adjust to it. But both games should be played by fans even if it's not the original formula. Like Resident evil 5. When it came out it needed to live up to RE4 which wasn't going to happen. They changed more of the RE formula up. I got it day 1 and I wasn't a huge fan of it but I beat it. Years later I went back and played it and loved the hell out of it. People need to give that game some credit and revisit it. Maybe one day I'll do it with BOTW. Like always great work brother!

Interesting comparison man. I still have BotW sitting on my shelf sealed. I fully intend on playing it at some point, but I’m worried that the open world, “do whatever you want” style gameplay might turn me away. I love the tried and true Zelda formula and don’t want to be disappointed by a game that so many others love so much. Guess I’ll have to finally play it at some point and see for myself 😅 I never had those types of reservations when it came to RE4. Even as a fan of the series, I was excited to see how they would change things up and was just there for the ride.

Appreciate you watching dude! And oh man, still freshly sealed 6 years later.. that’s pretty cool! Basically, the switch is such a nice console to play comfortably on the couch or in bed, it’s one of those games that you get into for a few weeks.. keep your eye on the radar for the shrines to get stronger & all that, but there’s just four temples.. they do a pretty solid job of marking them too, as you uncover the map. You’re going to have a lot of fun with it! I also loved RE4, but I’ve had some RE fans comment on the RE1 remake review that they really miss the formula and although they liked RE4, they hated what it did to the series. It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here! I bet a more closely guided Zelda will come again eventually!

Unfortunately, I can't really offer an opinion on this. I have put in an ungodly amount of playthroughs into RE4 but I haven't played BotW. The last Zelda game I've played to completion was Twilight Princess(which I had a great time playing). I undertand they were trying to put a Skyrim type open world into BotW and give it that kind of variety as far as approaching the game world, so there's that much I can say. I think after playing TP I pretty much felt like there wasn't much more they could do with the old Zelda formula, so in a sense I hung up my Master Sword. That's not to say I don't go back to play Link to the Past, Ocarina or Twilight Princess, I do (my favorite 3 of the series) I just don't have a Switch and if I wanted to play something like Skyrim, I'd just play Skyrim. That and playing Dark Souls, I think that replaced Zelda, in many respects, in my heart of gamer hearts. Lol, if that makes sense. Awesome vid, Jeff. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎮🔥 PS: I move into my new home on May 13th so I'm happier than hell, right now!!

thanks man! I finished BotW years ago, but TotK… I just don’t have the 100+ hours to focus on a game like that right now. Hopefully one day though!

I'm definitely one of those Zelda fans that doesn't like BotW, though I also definitely preferred RE4 over the previous games in that series. I didn't like the overall direction with 5 and 6 though. RE:Rev was alright.

Super interesting to see how it impacts the overall series, I wonder if it’ll at all resemble the similar feelings of the og RE fans.. I appreciate you watching, and I also hope for a bit more tightly guided Zelda adventure in the future too!

That's a nice analogy actually. Yes it is like that. botw is lonely and chill. totk is not. Not always anyway. There will be many people that will still prefer botw and that's a good thing. totk is a much superior game though trust me
