This review was hella negative for a retro style $15 indie game...this game is amazing lol

I think the guy was just having a skill issue moment, of course you can explode everything and be as destructive as possible but for those who are not able to do that without dying the option of sneaking around and taking down enemies 1 by 1 is also there.

I think you missed the point when the game says “yeah ‘Merica, explode everything!!!” While that is the tone the game displays, the heroes the game is parodying got that tone in a very different way. If you look at the best action heroes from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, they were very clever underneath the mass of muscle. John Rambo may be a beefcake of a man, but it’s his ingenious strategic mind that made him so scary. One bullet would finish him off, but he plans around that. He comes off as an invincible badass that can’t be touched. This is how Dutch Schafer bested the Predator in the first Predator movie. The muscles alone weren’t enough to save his other squad members, but he had that x-factor that got him through. The gameplay of Broforce reflects this principle. You may die in one hit, but good players understand this. When you watch high-level broforce players, they look like the untouchable guns-blazing badasses the game promotes. That’s where the difficulty lies: knowing the level layout and how to best approach it with the Bro you’re given. If I’m playing as Tank Bro, I’m going to be very careful around explosives since her rocket will set them off. If I’m playing as Brobocop, I’m gonna be taking cover a lot to charge his gun to full power. When you put yourself in situations where you say “I can’t even tell what killed me because there’s too much happening” that’s a failure on you as a player. You should’ve planned ahead instead of jumping into the fray.
@hapticshocker2986 Жыл бұрын
Well said bro.
@okbutwhatif99057 ай бұрын
But as he pointed out you can't plan ahead. The camera is locked on your character. And the game does encourage you to rush in. In plenty of ways. The experience of speedrunners who've spent way over 300 hours in thr game can't be the one noted for everyone.
@ominousvonte7 ай бұрын
@@okbutwhatif9905 I understand this point, and I agree with it only halfway. While a game should tell you what’s ahead, the fact is that your first playthrough is hardly ever going to look as impressive as your following attempts. Improving at something takes repetition, and I don’t think it’s fair to say the game is poorly designed just because you didn’t know what was coming the first time. However: I understand what’s really being said. The criticism is that the obstacles come out of left field and blindside the player. I dislike it when games do this, it’s unfair and cheap, and it’s where I agree with you. But I don’t think Broforce does this, at least not egregiously. Most games show you their obstacles in a controlled setting, where you have an opportunity to see how they work. The obstacles are then injected into settings with more obstacles: maybe with enemies or an additional hazard. From my memory, I remember Broforce doing this well enough. I would need to show specific examples to prove this, which I unfortunately can’t show you in this comment thread. I can concede that there *might* be instances of unfair obstacles, but I don’t remember. What I can prove is video’s shortcoming to make this point. It *could* have given specific examples of how the chaos onscreen had him killed unfairly, but he doesn’t do that. The most we have is at around 2:10, where he says “there were a lot of times where the chaos on screen was so intense that I had no idea how I actually die”. However, the footage he shows when saying this is pretty damning, because it’s pretty obvious how he died. He didn’t take the time to notice that there was an explosive above the enemy he killed, leading to his demise. Had he taken the time to observe what was ahead, he could’ve accounted for it. He could have had a better moment for this point, and this is what matching the screen with your words is so important. As for the camera being locked onto you at all times, I counter by saying you have all screen realestate you need. Your character is very small you have plenty of space to see what’s coming.
@okbutwhatif99057 ай бұрын
@@ominousvonte I agree with your specific example. I just meant to highlight that even playing well and being smart about things was sometimes not enough and it still happens very often that you will die to things that would have been impossible to predict. As for the screen needing to move, it's just one fix, but the general issue still exists, where you have to fall into a pit, look below, of sometimes ennemies ahead that are just out of sight. I generally agree that you get good at the game through playing it. It's a bit like a die and retry. That's how I always played. Really my point was to bring up the hypocrisy of the comments saying "just get good" as if they can't recognize the game has very real frustrating aspects.
@ominousvonte7 ай бұрын
@@okbutwhatif9905 Yeah, these arguments always require a tad of nuance. I hope my initial comment read as more than just “git good”, I always intend on offering solutions and helpful perspectives. I wish we could share more examples, but comments are too limited a space for us to do that practically. It would be helped if the video had more examples, but like I said it barely has any. This is why I believe reviews should be long, or at least account for the nuances and provide evidence.

Clearly the person has never played a coin-eating arcade machine 80s and 90s and doesnt know what "Arcade" games meant (aka a gameplay meant to suck money out of you hence easy kills). So reviewer describes BroForce as a game that excellently recreates the fast past Aracade games, then complains the lack tutorials, chaotic gameplay, and one hit kill. Yes, an excellent recreation of Arcade games minus losing $80 in quarters playing this game.
