This is the perfect video! You're a talented man. I could probably listen to this and watch it if it was much longer. And I can relate to the story completely. What's not to love about the 000-18? 😎👍

It's good as long as it's not financed, that would make it not worth it. Beautiful man, enjoy! I'm 54 and bought 8 guitars in the last year so I get it.

I bought a custom guitar from luthier at my local country in Vietnam, it cost me arround 900$ but the look, wood material, the sound almost like some high end brand guitar like martin taylor or gibson. Its Ân guitar from viet nam, you can search for that

Michael you're not really that old, compared to me. Everyone should have at least one Martin 000-18 that they believe is a perfect guitar. I wish now that I had sought out and bought a 1935 000-18 along about 1981, when I first had a good bit of money in my pocket. I like how you described yours as a no frills, elegant, not a lot of bling, guitar. Very nice video of how you settled up with your teenage longings for a nice Martin.

I fell in love with the Martin playability and tone by playing my friends Martin backpacker guitar an playing them at guitar center as a teenager. I first realized it was the only acoustic that would really make me happy when I was 13 years old. Finally on my 30th birthday I'd decided I'd waited long enough. So I bought myself a Martin D10e, the Sitka top version with Sapele back an sides and mahogany neck. I couldn't be happier with the tone and playability. It's only downside is that they save a bit of money/time by doing a thin satin finish (likely UV cured finish). And the satin finish is much less protective than a slightly thicker gloss finish. So I've already had some strange splinters lift out on the soundboard even though I baby the hell out of it and have ZERO clue where they are coming from (always in case with humidifier and is monitored with a reptile thermometer). But I'm decent at drop fills so I repaired the little splinter areas well by cleaning the exposed soundboard and drop filling the opening then carefully scraping the ca glue level and after that I match the sheen with micro mesh. But it's hard to match the sheen of a satin finish that used flattening agents so the drop fill areas are glossy in the right light. But I'm very happy with the drop fills other than that and nobody will ever know I had to drop fill it. It just looks a little glossy from play wear even though one spot is on the upper left bout lol. I just wish I could figure out what in god's name is causing these little wood splinters/chips on the top. I've humidified the guitar consistently since I bought it so it cant be that unless the seller neglected it for awhile which is certainly possible. But anyways point being it's my favorite acoustic I've ever owned and I intend on making it last for the rest of my life.

Fantastic guitar, *perfect* video 😉. Both worth the wait. I have personally never connected with a Martin, although I love hearing them when others play them. I suspect it’s the difference in tone as perceived from behind vs in front of the guitar. Or maybe I just need to play more of them until I find the right one for me.

I made my first nostalgic mistake at 30……and worse, I bought a completely different model in the same brand. I traded it for its namesakes wartime little brother, and then fell in love with the potential I heard. Finally, 20 years later I bought its early run of L-00’s 33’/34’ and damn if it isn’t a joy and a challenge to play. One thing leads to another and mistakes can teach you your biggest lessons.

I was fortunate enough last year to acquire a used Martin Custom-Shop HD28V with an Adirondack top. It's very understated apart from the herringbone pattern, but that only adds to its sonic-perfection. Its action is as good as most of my best electrics, but the sound... the sound ! It can do the Dreadnought cannon thing, but it can also do exquisitely delicate finger-style pieces. I know that Martins can vary wildly from a sonic-perspective, but when you get the right one, you just have to wander into the woods in your pyjama-trousers and make a video. :)
