Many post-secondary schools have boosted international enrolment in recent years because provincial funding for colleges and universities has declined. But officials are calling out “bad actors” who they say mislead students about the real cost of living and “puppy mill” schools that don’t provide a quality education.

The real issue, these universities and colleges that cannot command market level tuitition because the programs or degrees they offer are of questionable value. Questionable meaning anyone graduating cannot be gainfully employed AND command an above average salary. So, really these colleges and universities should be shut down, but there is no political will to do it, especially if you are the incumbent MPP in that riding.

Being a former international student myself, I think it is clear for everyone that the main issue is coming from a specific region. Not pointing fingers here, the country receiving students should vet whoever is interested in studying there. But most importantly, if we care if our food is ethically sourced, why wouldnt a country make sure the selection process is fair and ethical when recruiting an intl student? Many come to study because of the possibility of the PR, but not everyone actually CARES about studying. Ive had multiple cases where my colleagues and myself had to study hard to make up for the lack of commitment of some students and, as much as it is sad for me to say it, 99% of then were from one particular place. “I want my PR, got a student visa, so I should focus on my studies to get it” sadly is not the mentality in place. Also, landlords are afraid of renting their homes to students, because many of these so-called students bring in lots of people to live in the house without their consent and, when they move out, the place is miserably damaged. All cases I’ve experienced and/or seen. Here’s hoping something or someone will make our lives better, which obviously wont happen with one but many integrated effective decisions.

I took a post grad college course at Humber in 2011 and was shocked by what a broken system it was then, i cant even imagine what it's like now. Many of them could barely speak english, let alone write full college assignments in english, but we would get put into groups with them where they would be responsible for a portion of the work they had no way of completing. We were silently expected to pick up the work and i just said absolutely not, this person cannot complete the work in order to earn their diploma, which meant they would ultimately flunk out and have to go back home to their own country. Imagine being the reason someone has to leave a country they'd hoped to build a new life in. Ill never forget her tears. What an absolute mess of a system

@mukesharora2053 it was for an HR management class and the assignment was on McDonald's and their HR department, etc. When I started receiving their written portions to the work, they were barely legible, and it became obvious they couldn't speak the language. I just put my foot down and said, you absolutely need to complete this assignment somehow or I will be exposing this to the department heads. A half hour later I get a thoughtfully typed out assignment from them, I said wow, good job, this is much better. I ended up inputting a single sentence of it into Google for whatever reason and the McDonald's wikipedia page popped up. This person plagiarized the McDonald's wiki site and tried to pass it off to me like her own work lol. When I called her out on it over the phone she just basically laughed and hung up on me. I had TWO current class projects with this person. I made a complaint to the one class head thinking that's it, it's over, case closed, but was still responsible to do the same for the other class as if it was ME who had to prove my case here instead of HER having to defend hers. Both teachers even tried to ask me if there was some way I could sort it out with her. Like uhhh no, I'm not an English teacher lmao, I couldn't even if i wanted to. Both teachers really didn't want anything to do with it. It's obvious there must be a lot of money and kickbacks involved, and obviously initial trickery to even get over here in the first place if they can't even write and produce the necessary work in English

The best suggestion is that students should not have a direct path to PR. Proposing a waiting period of at least 3 years after graduation or 7 years from arrival whichever comes later before submitting a PR application, with an additional 3-year wait for approval. To qualify during this period, meaningful employment related to their studies and skills should be demonstrated. Furthermore, dependants of these students should not be permitted to work until the primary applicants obtain PR. Implementing stricter criteria for PR applications is seen as a deterrent to potential scammers and abuses.

that is unrealistic, considering the labor needs of Canada. At the moment Canada is seeing a significant increase in retirement, and folks leaving the workforce. Furthermore, its easier to transition someone who has studied here to a PR, than bring in a new immigrant.

Like EVERYTHING else the government has twiddled their thumbs on the matter for nearly a decade. For example, Algonquin College in Ottawa has tripled in size by basically becoming an international school for ChatGPT users. There are many classes and courses mainly comprised of international students and it makes me wonder how many Canadians coming out of high school in the area get rejected in favour of an international student. The number of people I’ve met here on a study or work permit looking for permanent residence is astounding.

this is not an issue that came up overnight night it's just been put to light overnight. I am not sure why the Government of Canada let this situation go unchecked for so long. international students are, in essence, immigrants. they come with the intention to get a good education in Canada and then to find a job to afterward eventually live and migrant to Canada. But if you have substandard education being provided without requiring sufficient funds to address their stay. those same students are going to add stress to a system, which historically has been taken advantage of when deemed necessary. shame on Canada government that it is trying to increase the population without taking into full consideration the contribution that each international student can contribute. quality vs quantity, not quantity over quality. Canada needs to work hard to bring back up the quality of living that attracted so many immigrants in the 70s and 80s. Good luck, Canada. We will be praying for you 🙏 ❤️!

The future of our nation rests on us making meaningful changes not just to our immigration policies but our attitudes toward “integration”, as we see the rise of extremism in our population - a direct consequence of who we let in this country and where they come from.

Everyone wants a white colour jobs which doesn’t exist. What Canada needs is people to work in Tim Hortons and truck drivers to move the stuff around. This is a truth.

How is DLI list available on government of Canada not kept up to date?? Clearly, federal and provincial government has dropped the ball on this topic also - shear negligence on so many levels!!!

the province and territory has to go in the school to see if they are credited then they submitted to the federal. Only provincal level can regulated them. Apprently private ones are not inspected or regularly regulated. So that is the problem with private colleges (ie carrer colleges)

Better fix it or they will leave and if you think things are bad now wait, oh wait and wait and wait for your health care. Student residences were converted into long term care facilities. More buildings need to be built, don’t support a proxy war that’s over. Stop paying Ukrainian civil servant, paramedic, teacher salaries.

Sadly, once again, it's the bad " eggs" who spoil it for the rest..with the crooks using Int.students...as bait..etc... the PM should be concerning himself more with these things than flying off and ignoring how his country is hurting and being misused!!!. Such a sad state of affairs, also where would they live....he hasn't done much in the way of housing his own countrynen, let alone foreign students ( who we need!)

Canada needs to be like Australia one day. Australia reformed student visa system a month ago by strengthening rules against onshore visa hopping and graduate visas won't be granted to anyone over 35 years of age. Australia increased English test scores for student visas and graduate visas by 0.5 points, which means that anyone who would like to apply for student visa must score 5.5 on IELTS and 6.5 for graduate visas. Also Australia scrapped visas and permanent residency given to wealthy individuals who invest $5 million or more few days ago. Nowadays, Australian visa system is geared to skilled workers who have 2 years or more experience on each occupation lists, which means that these skilled workers now have a pathway to the permanent residency after two years with one employer. However, these skilled workers must find an employer who is willing to sponsor them and pay them at least $70,000 or more per year. If graduates cannot find employers who pay them $70,000 a year or more, then there is no pathway for them to stay longer in Australia. THIS IS WHAT IS REALLY NEEDED IN CANADA!

Hi Harry just to give you some additional information, most academic programs in Canada asks for a 6.0 or 6.5 IELTS score. This is higher than Australia. The path to PR for most students already requires at least 1 year of work experience in a highly skilled or semi-skilled profession, again, similar to what you are proposing. If you look at the point system our government uses you notice that work experience after graduation and things like language have a higher impact on PR application than their studies in Canada.

Canada is in business of selling PR in return of getting labour and population of taxpayers. Life of Canadians is so stressful that the birth rate fell to 1.4 so they get population from outside. Students from other developed nations are not interested to come in Canada. India is the only developing nation where people can afford to pay high tution fees. Canada could get some brilliant brains from India in last decade. They made their own 3 COVID vaccines where Canada did none but policy makers invited only labor. It happens only in Canada where a back home Doctor, Professor or Engineer driving Uber.

As a subject of the double cohort test group related to eliminating grade 13, or OAC in Ontario, the lesser of the two subjects that is, I can tell you, the education system in Ontario at least is broken. I would know, I helped to break it while I was being used as a test subject. Now, of course, I didn't know I was being used as a lab rat at the time, so I couldn't help, I could only rebel against the ridiculous constraints the staff were subject to that made no sense to me at all. Since I was often successful in deceiving my teachers and their bosses, yes I could tell, many new policies were implemented, that never would have been, had it not been for my deceptions, which resulted in my expected creation of these entirely useless policies.

If you are that self-aware, no chance you didn't know what was going on I agree. At best, you are weak af. At worst, you are immorally complicit wishing you were at least ammorally invovled. You have lots of company though so chin up!!! The health care pros really threw humanity under the bus as well as education. Proving that they are no longer to be trusted with the general populations health for a long long time if ever again.
