As an avid user of Chat-GPT Plus, I'm more interested in the accuracy and speed of answers given. I hardly ever pose questions to an LLM pertaining to coding or mathematical problems which are areas I've read that Deepseek-R1 does very well in.

you don't need to use NVIDIA for inference, you can use Huawei Ascend or GROQ chips.

I don't understand how DeepSeek came as such a shocker many people. We know for years now that open source models become more and more impressive (i.e. newer llama models) and are only a fraction behind. It is nice that because of the innovations in test time compute and model distillations open source models are becoming so close. Maybe this is even more fuel for competition and the market - leading to more adoption etc like you explained with the light bulb analogy.

From my research it seems like deepseek is simply a distilled ChatGPT. I.e they use ChatGPT outputs to train the model.
