The only thing you should pay attention is phone scrams which is a quite common crime in East Aisa, and theft may sometimes occur in some cities which are considered to have 'bad order' in china. But anyway, violence is not common because it is both safe in China and there seldom exits violent people, especially in south and east of china.

我的英文班老師都是外籍的，有2個之前都是國內教英文現在掉了來香港教班，都說中國生活比自己的地方要安全和自由消費低生活和交通都方便，不過都反應香港樓價真心貴和太小了吧，而且都解釋了除非你想犯法勒~不然怎會怕監控?可惜19年的學生運動完全都沒道理，老師本來是要申請家人過來也取消了，後來再加新冠，他們也先回家鄉照顧家人，以後再作打算~ 小伙呀，外國老師都說外國人應該去青島和廈門玩玩，那邊是外國人想要的天堂。

China one weakest point is its squat public toilets that sometimes have poor outside the squat toilet bowls when someone could not aim precisely while my thailand public toilets are all sitting toilets.

Thank you so much. I live in Australia and people tend to stereotype “China” and speak without the knowledge. I have been to about 8-10 cities in China and married a Chinese woman. I have never seen any evidence of street crime. And you hit the nail on the head, it is the culture that generates the safety aspect.

There is a BBC interview with the Singapore Prime Minister about liberty of a society is actually very interesting. He described the liberty of a society as being able to walk on a street freely particularly if you are a woman or child at any time of the night, as having an opportunity for education or job regardless of your race or your social background and as being able to practice your own religion without feeling discrimination. I feel in China people could achieve above or at least at some very close level. I was born and grew up in Beijing in my first 20 years then came to US for education and work. I have lived in a lot of different cities, west coast and east coast more than 10 years now. I would say even in 1990s and 2000s I was able to walk on street at dark night alone without worrying anything in China not even mentioned now but I would definitely not feel safe in 99% of the city or suburban in US I stayed. A lot westerners could not even imagine how can woman and child walk at dark night, welcome to China.

Absoutely true. When I lived with my husband in Brussles, one night I went for a walk after supper. He was shcoked and said it was not safe for a walk after sunset, there're lots of immirant from poor or war countries. Afterwards, I was stopped going for a walk after 7 pm.

It's interesting. I'm 26 years old. I'm not addicted to online games now. I was very fond of playing games when I was young, but I was afraid to be known by my family. So I choose to wait for them to fall asleep and then go out online and play until 4:00 a.m. and close to 5:00 a.m. to go home. In my heart, I was still a little uneasy. Once I was walking alone on the street, but I was a little afraid in the evening. I was afraid of meeting some bad people. There were some industrious sanitation workers on the street who gave me some sense of security. I remember very clearly that a police car passed by me and stopped in front of me. When I went there, I asked for my ID card, asked about my situation and sent me home. I was grateful, but I said I would be home soon. Thank you very much. They told me to try not to go out so late and pay attention to my safety. After that, I didn't go home so late alone.

Actually, I`d say not every camera is connected to the government database or authorities. Most of them are owned by the stores in which they are located. Some are connected to the police station only if it is a jewelry store. And trust me there is no way the government can have a look at those monitored videos because they don`t have enough processing power. Yeah, most cameras u can see in China are 720p or even 480p, when the police want to find any suspect they need to do a lot of work to make the videos clear enough. And the only kind of camera which is definitely connected to the government is traffic camera, and it is true only if you believe the traffic department is called the Government of People`s Republic of China directly.

Don't you think there's a small minority of racists in China? Australia has one of the most ethnically diverse populations anywhere, 50% are first or second generation immigrants. But you cant help when medias frame Chinese smuggling toilet paper( have to say some do buy bulk milk powder) and ship them overseas, I was like what the hell? There was never a shortage of toilet paper at any time in mainland China FYI. Working for a US Company, I traveled and worked in different cities in China since 2006. I feel China is extremely safe. Most Chinese believed the communist parties are governing for the people and making their lives better. We can see the extreme locked down and testings China have done saved thousands of lives. The people are very active in helping containing the virus, which enabled China to recover so quickly.

I live in 昆山 close to shanghai..it's a ''small town'' by China standards.. It is extremely safe and peaceful. I'm a Brazilian..went through Argentina,US,NZ and now China for 3 years. China is SO DAMN SAFE. You just never worry man..never... I came back from traveling back to Brasil MANY times and it was around 2-4 AM always..and we can just walk back home if we feel like getting some fresh air..no troubles..no stupid gangsters on the streets..nothing!

I've been in Australia for one and a half years now. Once my friends and I went to a street full of nightclubs on a Friday night, at about 10 pm, my German friend was hit by some strangers for no reason. And a passenger was hit for trying to help. I heard them saying, "because you're white..." Something like that. That was the first time I went to nightclub and I won't go again. My home country is safer indeed. At least, you won't be hit by someone unknown while walking down the street before midnight. The other thing I wanna talk about is this. Recently people are blaming Chinese for the spreading of Covid-19. Racism happened in the comments under every news about the virus. My coworkers talked about the news every single day. Sometimes I would join them and tell them China is safe now but no one believed me. They smiled with a look that said "you're brainwashed by the Chinese government, I don't believe you". So I don't talk to them now. I can sense that more hatred and more denial have been created by the people who don't know about China, who haven't been to China. It's sad. One of my coworkers even said "don't say you're Chinese. Just say you're Taiwanese or you're from Hong Kong." I said no, I'm Chinese and I won't pretend to be people from other countries. I just hope people can open their eyes and realize China is not what most Western media have been talking about.

I totally agree with your point of view. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and I lived in Beijing for 1 year. I remember there was a night I took a very late flight from 广州 to 北京. I walked from the train station to my home on my own. I feel really safe when doing so, because I know that there are cameras everywhere. No one would dare to commit crime in front of the CCTV. If I were in Hong Kong, I would not be brave enough to walk on my own at the middle of the night.

I could still remember once I was visiting a client in Hongkong. After I finished supper with the client in a restaurant, my client told me to be careful not to walk through smaller streets on my way back to the hotel. It was 2015 around 8:30 PM, and in Wanchai which is pretty much part of the city center to me. I thought they were kidding, but they told me seriously to be careful and avoid being robbed. Well, I never have to worry about being robbed in mainland by 8 PM.

well, there may be some misconception about those camera.They are not controlled by cctv. except traffic cameras,most of them are managed by community or police. If you were hurted or some crime happens, you or the police can help you defend your rights according some videos from the camera. it's the purpose of these cameras.

@@原文杰 这个更多其实是文化教育不同，我们从古至今有个教育是，内心坦荡就行。西方人觉得政府监控侵犯隐私。当然这两年我们也在立法处理隐私侵犯的事，毕竟很多企业泄露个人隐私出去，才导致诈骗泛滥。影视文化上，美国电影也主要是描绘一个强权，在通过一个英雄去推翻。我们的电影文化里面更多的是讲一个人顶天立地这类的。（最核心一点还是欧美媒体的宣传，反正让他们的人民觉得中国还在6 70年代的时候）

I watch quite a lot of videos like "what China really looks like", "differences between Taiwan&China" etc, and one little interesting thing I found is people who give generally positive opinions on China tend to support their opinions by more "facts" that you can actually verify them if you want to (e.g. there are more cameras), however, people giving negative ones mostly use only their personal experiences (e.g. I saw a boy shitting in the public) and second hand experiences they heard from others (e.g. I talked to my students in China about Japan and they said Chinese students can beat the shit out of a Japanese student).
