The store got as much negativity as it did for three key reasons: The first is that the game is a full priced release and people by in large are just sick of nickel and diming mechanics being in fully priced releases. The general opinion is that cosmetic purchases are really only acceptable if a game is free to play. The second is that the actual purchases split up skins between individual units, and you can't even get a complete set of all of your units with the same overall skins; forcing users to buy a bunch of individual packs and still get mis-matched armies. The third reason is probably the most critical though. After one month of player feedback being largely negative, the big major update that was touted as addressing player feedback.... added a microtransaction store as the big part of that update. It comes across as insanely tone deaf and greedy.
@perafilozof7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I totally get that part. And I understand the point about adding in the Store as a player feedback content update, cruel. But I must say I still don't know what about the skins themselves would be a problem to anyone who simply doesn't care about skins. They don't change the gameplay which is the main idea. Making those who do pay, pay a lot more, is not right or fair. But I also don't think that is a big issues for the rest of the players, just those who really want skins.

Because the people who play a ww2 game want see historical accurate content not toy soldiers with unhistorical skins that is the fact, and the first thing they must to do is finish the game.

It was during work of Steve Mele - Executive Producer... He was fired somewhat later and since then Relic was makking more sense in their work... After Sega left them alone, they seems to be even better, but had to drop console version, due to lack of tools and people from Sega. 16.07 is going to give us another update, so who knows how less bad is going to be.... I played it during the free weekend after not touching it due to the early reviews. It's the weakest of the 3 games but not by miles. I enjoyed it and purchased it at the discounted price of £21.99 which I feel is definitely worth it now after completely the Italian SP. I predominantly play SP. It is quite apparent to me the updates they have made since launch has likely really improved the game considerably. Pros: - The dynamic campaign map is a great evolution of Relics pass overworld campaign maps (DoW Dark Crusade) - The gameplay and controls are strong and still keeps much of the CoH series feel - The use of external actors to influence in battle/in mission gameplay really gives a great deal of flexibility - There's a ton of modes pour many hours into and enjoy - The "unit history" approach is fantastic way of having the player connect with their units/companies Cons: - Although there are tailored missions during the dynamic campaign, none felt as dramatic or impactful as CoH1 (to be fair, there's only a few from CoH2 that compares too) - Lack of actual variety in maps during skirmishes is pretty bad - Although there's plenty of things to do during the campaign, a number of it appears quite superfluous (emplacements for example). CoH 1 > CoH 2 > CoH3 but if you can get the Steam deal with the whole bundle where CoH3 is heavily discounted then it's worth it. If CoH1 is a 9/10, CoH 2 would be an 8 and CoH3 would be a 6 coming close to 7 if only there is a strong campaign added to it.

Could you also tell me why you chose it so i can understand it beter. Thanks for anyone who reacts :D Small question, me and my friend want to buy a company of heroes game, we enjoy playing together and care more to fight against ai in co-op and the occasional pvp against eachother for fun. We like maps with chokepoints to have defenses such as river maps in Coh 1, we also like to paratroop and don't care much about pvp. We also don't want to spend to much since we won't know how much game play we will actually get and do this game occasionally and not full time. Since CoH 3 is in sale we would be interested to maybe buy that, but we looked at CoH 1 and it is 6 bucks and some extra for the base game, opposing front and tales of valor which seems beter since it's cheaper that 30 for CoH 3. What would you advise and for what reason? Thank you :D

Late answer to this but here's my thoughts: Either CoH2 or CoH3. Leaning CoH2 if it's in regards to price but for a complete deal then CoH3. CoH1 for pure comp stomp becomes unfun against Expert (they cheat much more than the sequels). CoH2 and CoH3 is on par with one another for vs AI stuff. The only downside I'd say for CoH2 though is that you don't get the full experience with base game. You can't play as 3 other factions for example without buying 2 DLCs, and extra vs AI content (Theater of War & Ardennes Assault) is locked behind it's own set of DLCs. There's also the Commander system in which you'd need to grind/buy commanders that you find have fun units/abilities in their kits. The campaigns are also left in their unfixed state with bugs dating back to launch still existing. CoH3's only downside for me is the price. It's much more content filled from the get go; the only thing not in base game being the 1 company for campaign and 2 multiplayer battlegroups (similar to the Commander system, this can be grinded/bought).

If you honestly want my take on why Company Of Heroes 3 failed. It's fairly simple, the name is already heavily associated with what came before, very gritty war-themed games, with a full-out historically accurate, map layout, cutscenes, etc. The problem is the moment you get introduced to the game in teaser form, your expectations are completely shattered with something that was not this game. When it comes to the campaign, it feels like a mobile game, not COH. The attention to detail, sound, etc is generic or none existent. So a lot of life is just lacking. Most companies seem to keep falling for this trick. "It will sell by the brand name" rather than realizing that we do not buy a video game for the name. We buy the video game for quality and high expectations. When you compare COH1, COH2 and COH3. COH1 is throwing COH3 off the Grand Canyon. COH2 has ordered a firing squad, aerial support, and naval bombardments. To put it simply: It failed to live up to expectations, and it failed to understand its identity, and brand and completely failed to improve what came before it. Considering Relic hasn't bothered to enable COH2's custom models, voice files/proper modding support it says a lot. They did not care. It's why COH3 failed, the game simply was being skimped on as much as possible and it shows.

Hi and thank you kindly for sharing all your thoughts on this topic. I totally agree with you and it is what veterans of the series were most irritated by. Exactly as you said, the brand name is there, but lacks the quality that made that name a brand. I think it is a mix of many new developers working on the game, which also don't get the time to put in the effort required to make it on part or better than the previous game and we end up with this half brank knockoff.

I bought the game at initial launch and saw immediately it was not ready for prime time so have just left it in my Library. Now with all the updates and balancing I am getting ready to dust it off and give it another try. One issue I was hoping for which still has not been addresses is the ability to scroll further out on the map to make it easier to view the "hot" sectors that may need closer scrutiny and micro managing. In my opinion COH1 was and has been so far the best of the three COH games and honestly its the reason the next games in the series have sold as well as they have. But too be fair it was also improved over its initial release state as well.

@@perafilozof My honest opinion is a good game title and franchise today is better served with regular large updates and DLC packages reasonably spaced that provide ample new content and features worthy of the DLC price point which allows the player to get a longer life of the initial investment and allows the gaming studio to keep things fresh while also keeping an income stream alive to support the studio and devs. I know Hearts of Iron 4 has kept its game going for years using this concept and it is one game I find myself to keep returning to as a result.

@@billwiley7216 I do agree with you on principle on this point. I hate that so much. The times before DLCs were much better with developers making Expansions that had a LOT of content for the price that was 50-70% of the original game.

Hi, that is unfortunate but also understandable. I am a new player in a lot of RTS games and MP communities myself and this is a wide issue. Not just with this game but in each and every one. This tells me the MP player experience isn't structured about how people behave but how they should behave and it creates the friction you have experienced. Simply put, veteran players don't want to be involved in matches with new players. And that is where the bad experience comes from as the developers make systems where minimizing matchup times is more important than those matches actually being enjoyable.

Bloob smashing is what I hate in RTSes, and only Relic managed to make something different than others, but still with some complex mechanics... They have: -line of sight per model -cover system -not simple dps stats (accuracy, fire rate, reload speed of magazine, time to aim, time to set up, accuracy on the move, scatter...) -a bit of momentum in units movement, so it is not artificial like in starcraft -capture point desing of resources -squad of units -interactive terrain -crushable / burnable obstacles -side armor + penetration mechanics -....

bro i disagree with the review first coh3 is a great game , second relic are very talented developers , look at age of empire iv , however one thing for sure though they rushed coh3 and then fixed it later on with patches , it should have been released with the current stage .

Hi and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this game with us in the comments. I agree with you, and would like to know what are your thoughts on the gameplay now in the MP of CoH3 compared to CoH2?
@Dunleap7 ай бұрын
@@perafilozof In all honestly. I use to play COH2 every second day after work. At last 1 game. It was fun and enjoyable. At this moment, I don't want to play CoH3. I have no crave at all. Here is how I feel: - Units do not respond same way, they still feel sluggish. I don't feel confident, they will fallow my orders. - The ability to read the map is lacking. I steel feel like units blend into the background. Reading battlefield is a pain. - I have trouble distinguishing is units winning or loosing long range fire exchanges. In CQB you can see HP going down fast, so its easier, but not perfect. In previous games you can spot the bullets hitting models or sandbags. You could figure out how accurate unit is by just observing where the salvo hit. CoH3 feels like bullets in infantry fights disappear and hit at random. Sometimes units is loosing HP and you haven't see the incoming fire hitting models. - Some of the units feel OP. In Coh2 you could use conscripts to defeat higher tier units by placement and tactics, retreat to next cover and shot. Here it feels like, if the units have better stats it will win no matter the cover or positioning. Even when running in a middle of open space, against certain units I feel powerless even with numerical and positional advantages. This is reflected by the last point. Because battlefield is less readable, and harder to track bullets. It feels the damage happened, ignoring everything else. - It feels like the stats of the units, can override the numerical advantage or tactic. Micromanagement can't compensate RNG. CoH 3 Encourage using meta builds even more and no matter how good you are, even if your opponent make mistakes. Unless you use meta build its hard to compensate for units stats. I just want to add that: - UI is soulless, no dirt, grid or epicenes. It feels like devas have no idea for art design, and decide to trash old UI without learning from it.
@perafilozof7 ай бұрын
Thank you kindly for taking the time to write this out. It is very informative and matches my own observations and what others have written in other places. Especially the part about visuals of the battle not computing directly with the results. As for the UI part I totally agree and don't think the same people were involved in the making of it.

Also the ai is poor it seems often. For sp play, it's important. The African campaign is short and average, the dynamic campaign is the one interesting thing for sp, and it seems an average mishmash. If they expand on it, and improve ai, and finish of animations, feel of all, then it can be worth it for sp, for now only at very low price.

I'm in ps5 now only, so i was anxious to get a good tactics gsme with a new layer of strategy, shame when i read the ign sp review, how it seems disappointing in many aspects. At least it improved somewhat now, hard to tell by how much and if enough for the price. Im waiting for 1.6 update at least to be on ps5 before getting it, if i can be patient enough..,hehe.

man i want to like this game so bad and ive put hundreds of hours into it. but really at the end of it all i would rather be able to refund it and just pretend it never happened. COH2 is way better even with the ridiculous micro transactions One of my biggest gripes that they still havent fixed is the US paratroopers using a bolt action animation lmao luckily they changed the main menu from having a period innacurate italian m1 garand conversion that came out in the 1950s (the m1 garand with a clip/magazine) (edit) i will add some positives because there are a few things i do like about coh3 over coh2 the base building/tech system is a little better since they went back to the coh1 style, but VERY minor thing imo The graphics are really good when you zoom in on the units, and the explosion animations and textures are really good, but something feels weird about it. like playing with toy soldiers vs seeing a battlefield. like in coh2 when arty hit somewhere or tanks push on your defensive position the aftermath is usually just absolute complete carnage. smoking vehicles everywhere, bodies and limbs, huge craters and destruction of any treees or structures, dudes crawling away and the voicelines make you immersed. I cant pinpoint what exactly is different about coh3 in this regard, but everything just feels so "wimpy" i wanna like the game, but even when i try to give it complements, there are stains
@Zechariah_Johnson3 ай бұрын
I also want to add some points on multiplayer vs singleplayer people seem to have varying opinions on these but this is my experience. i bought the game at release for $60 and have come back to try it out even as recently as last month and these are my final thoughts. Multiplayer - blob city. just make the most overpowered flamethrower and AT infantry units you can and unless you are REALLY bad you will probably take out their whole army unless they have the same blob makeup. The new ranger battlegroup is absolutely ridiculously OP and ranger units just get a lootbox with a random weapon in it? BAD design imo and leads to very un-fun gameplay and unrealistic. feels bad. only a few battlegroups that you can pick from and doesnt have the feel of diversity that the battlegroups in coh2 had. they feel "gimmicky" like you have 1 good strat with each battlegroup. SPAM ARTY OR BLOB. and if u go arty it really only works in big team games with competent team mates. Blob is still winning strat. artillery can be strong and tanks can be strong, but still nothing beats the flamethrower AT blob if you have smoke and any support for them. add in frontline reinforcement mechanics they have in this game and its whack it seems that the only good PvP in this game is the 1v1. which to me is the weakest of any Coh gameplay. who wants to just back cap for 70% of the game? i guess some people like that, but i would think starcraft2 would give you a much better expereince for that kind of gameplay Singleplayer - barely put any time into it because it simply does not draw me in. the italian campaign is like a bad version of Civ gameplay (even tho civ is pretty weak to begin with) i feel like it COULD be good, but its kind of sloppily and lazily put together and i feel nothing compelling me to sort thru the atrocious UI to figure out how it all even works. Rommel campaign seemed better becuase it was simpler and followed a more linear path, but at end of the day the AI is so bad i think it may be impossible to lose any mission even on hardest.

Hi and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game and it's current stage. It is the same sentiment most players have about it. Simply not the same look and feel of the previous games. For whatever reason the developers didn't keep it as is but changed some of the most obvious atmospheric elements.
@perafilozof3 ай бұрын
I know my friend. I totally get that. They tried something new with the SP but not before making sure they have a solid foundation in the other modes. 1v1 CoH is my least favorite multiplayer experience as it simply doesn't have the same fun due to very small counts. Feels wrong and underwhelming. The meta always comes up on top as in any other game and it is another reason that stops an RTS from being fun as players who only care about winning end up ruining the experience of having fun in a game for everyone

For now i still prefer playing iron harvest, men of war assault squad 2, terminator dark fate, call to arms and call to arms gates of hell, "broken arrow demo" and cepheus protocol that look a bit in one or another way to company of heroes 3 even if all of this games have some small problems too but not a single game breaking.
