Is Cork the real Capital of Ireland? I take to the streets to ask the people of Cork themselves!
It is widely agreed amongst Cork people, that Cork is the true Capital of Ireland. Do Cork people really believe that though? I went to County Cork, Ireland to find out.
What do you think though? Is Cork the real capital of Ireland? Comment below and let me know!

I came to Cork to study English in 2013 and came back for my Master degree at CIT in 2017-2018. I would always recommend Cork over Dublin to anyone who is considering between Cork and Dublin. Truly the capital of Ireland in my heart. Love this video! Miss all the accents.

Your video was educational too in that I've learned straight from Cork residents' mouths that the true way to pronounce 'Cork' sounds more like 'Cark'. Even as a foreigner (who loves Irish tea) I know that every sachet of Barry's is blended in Cork whereas Lyons is made in England for the Irish market, and I was almost expecting a Barry's partisan to come out and represent! :P

The only person who was able to give a solid reason why Cork feels more like the true capital was the one American girl. She said exactly what I was saying before she came on, which is that Cork feels more Irish than Dublin does. All big, western cities have much the same feel to them. Dublin does feel Irish, of course, but it has lost a bit of its soul to its size. Cork is such a lovely, friendly, walkable city. Oh, and Murphy's is superior to Guinness, so.

It was 'influenced' but we stood up to them and sent them off with a flea in their ear. Ask Donal O Sullivan from the Beara Peninsula. He was hunted and starved with his clan. We'll smile at ya and banter but we listen, take note and act accordingly. Rebel county for a reason. Fighting Irish are not the drunken Irish. We're educated and very social. Cork drove out the British and achieved independence. Today Dublin make political decisions for Cork which Cork people hate, hence why this "Republic of Cork/Cork is the capital" thing came about. Cork people feel they have the right to make their own decisions. For example local politicians in Cork tried to change the names of a few streets in Cork because they had British names like Victoria cross (Queen Victoria was Queen during the Irish famine), but of course Dublin would not allow it because they didn't want to be seen as anti British so we can keep our neighbors happy

@@Corkerstein Dublin was always a British city. Look at descriptions from pre-1916. It's never been that much different than other large British regional cities, they all have their own local character and so does Dublin. Sadly it's still the most influential city in Ireland and all of the main institutions and media are based in Dublin 4. They're successfully homogenising the rest of Ireland, especially the middle classes, and I could cite answers on identity surveys since the seventies as well as evidence from linguistics to demonstrate this (look up the research on 'Supraregional Irish English' for example)

I grew up my entire life going down to West Cork, to Skibbereen and even past that to goleen. I was born and raised in Dallas Texas too an Irish mother and a Peruvian father, but I will tell you one thing. I've been to Dublin, I've been to Galway, I've been at temporary, I've been to Meath. There is nothing in this world that I would trade in my entire life for West Cork. Come on the rebels, come on the boys in Red, I will always love Cork till the day I die!!!

Forgive me for my ignorance, but are you covering the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Or is there no difference?

He said he is doing 32 counties so that will include northern Ireland. There is a difference between the two and you will certainly hear the difference too haha.

Cork is similar to Belfast, we both believe we are the capital of the world, and we are both right, and Dublin is wrong!

Already has a capital . Maybe if you merge every other city in Ireland it might just be half of the size of Dublin .

By that logic the hill of Tara should still be the capital. Also It wasn’t ever the capital. Nice place though

Cork should be the capital because the culture and the friendliness of the people beat Dublin hands down.

@S.K 123 I don't hate Dublin I worked in Dublin I socialized in Dublin I've watched Dublin more than any other county I follow Boh's 🤔 my point was Dublin didn't want to leave the"Union" in fact they were the last to leave maybe Cork should've been capital because they were committed to the cause.... Just my view 😉✅✅🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

@S.K 123 Dublin was the last place to fall wasn't it 🤔 the Union Jack still flew over Dublin when the uprising happened and weather you like it or not most of Dublin didn't want to leave the Union because of the work the port had at time they depended on the Brits for income 🤔 I don't doubt you know your history or that you speak Irish but sure half of the west of Ireland speak Irish fair play and Wicklow played it's part just we were in the diece of Dublin but I'm sure you knew that 👍👍

or maybe just a thought, maybe because Dublin aka black pool was created by the Norwegian and Danish viking's, not Irish... i think its funny how the capital of the Republic of Ireland isn't even an Irish made city just inhabited by Irish Cork use have my vote...Belfast would be the Capitol if england didn't have it lol, im only joking, put pitch forks away
