I am a fan of plastic surgery and at 71 I am unapologetic about the work I have done. I had a facelift with upper and lower bleph when I was 58. My eyes still look great. Before I had surgery, my PS has an on staff esthetician who made my skin look like glass before I had the surgery. I have been with her ever since because it takes all the guesswork out of skincare. A great esthetician is the best resource. Thanks, Beth!

They can do the procedure while you’re awake…
@janearcher38346 ай бұрын
@susannapotter908 That used to be the case. But they rarely use full general anesthesia anymore for most procedures like the days of old. The anesthesia of choice in most cases now is Propofol which can take you from conscious sedation (no intubation) to full sedation (intubation needed). If you are going under for something like cardiac surgery I believe they use different anesthesia which is more complete. When people don't survive surgery nowadays, it is usually from complications from the surgery, or a preexisting medical condition, and not the anesthesia. Given all that, no procedure is entirely risk free. Blepharoplasty is one of the extremely low risk surgeries, and can be done with minimal anesthesia.

My mother had the excess skin removed from her eyelids. She had it done as a medical procedure as it was getting difficult to see properly. They cut out nearly 2 inches!! The doctor said it was the most he ever removed, and maybe he could have cut slightly more, but was worried as he didn't want problems with taking too much. Anyway, once the swelling and bruising healed, it was great, no more problems with seeing and the tired eyes from the weight of the excess skin on the lids...mum was really pleased with it.

So far, so good, but I can’t wait until all of the puffiness is gone!

I had blephoplasty in November. My insurance paid for the upper lids, but I had to pay $4,000 for the lower lids. I When I went back two months after my surgery, I was still a bit puffy on the outside of my lower lids. The surgeon said he would redo the lower lid surgery, but I don’t know if I want to go through it again. I have six months to decide whether I want to have it done.

I had upper eyelid surgery following Bell's Palsy event. My right eyelid was drooping significantly. My surgeon did both eyes at the same time to the results of the nerve damage on the right side of my face, the right eye did not turn out as well as the left eye, but the peripheral vision out of the right eye was greatly improved. The eye is smaller than the left and it appears that there is more fat in the upper right eyelid. You need to realize that plastic surgery will not create perfection or evenness in the face. Do not expect perfection. It is not possible, nor is symmetry. I am happy that i can have peripheral vision, i am disappointed that the eye does not look as good as the left.
@BethDjalali6 ай бұрын
Yes. Considering plastic surgeon's are fallible human beings, albeit skilled in their profession, we can't expect miracles. But no two eyes are symmetrical from the get-go so that stands to reason. Hopefully your eyesight is better and you're happy with the results.

Not sure that you know that an optometrist is not a medical doctor and also that normally an ophthalmologist who does blepheroplasties won’t do them under general anesthesia. I’m surprised you had that. My mother is an ophthalmologist and I also had an upper bleph on both eyes about two years ago, and insurance paid. I had very bad ptosis on one eye which may have been the result of a car accident I was in when I was 24, but that of course got much worse as I got older. I don’t think I need a lower bleph but if I do I will go back to the same ophthalmologist. A lot of plastic surgeons won’t even do them because they know that the ophthalmologists do a better job. I will say though that I have a good friend who works for a plastic surgeon (as a nurse) and she says that the most Impactful surgery is the blepheroplasty. I didn’t look old but my eye was really droopy and my vision was impaired so I’m really glad I did it.
@BethDjalali6 ай бұрын
Yes, an optometrist and ophthalmologist are different. Been to both. An optometrist has an OD and ophthalmologist has an MD. But I would never go to anyone other than a skillful Plastic surgeon for a blepharoplasty. Just me.
@vtcs19636 ай бұрын
@@BethDjalali You might not know this but there is such a specialty as ocular plastics. My mom (I remember your beautiful video about your mom, we never had that kind of relationship but I have to give credit where it is due) supervised such a clinic up until the pandemic. Even though she turns 84 this week, the department head STILL calls her from time to time: "When are you coming back?" (She does not operate anymore). So having done rotations in both ophthalmology and surgery (with plastics clinic) and deciding that none of that cutting stuff was ever going to be for me, I still personally prefer an ophthalmologist who is intimately familiar with the eye and only the eye - who doesn't divide his or her time between rhinoplasties and boob jobs and an occasional bleph. Some of them won't even do them (or at least would not do one on the daughter of an ophthalmologist). I'm not trying to argue with you, just want your followers to hear both sides of the story.
