I was working in China when Covid hit in 2020, and I remained until fleeing the Zero Covid policy in June 2022. Life under the policy was quite horrific, and it hammered home why it is so important to have the right to criticize the government and have free speech.

this is all good and fine, and it's a compelling argument. But i have to ask myself...how Japan committed the same issues as the USSR in the wake of the Fukushima incident. How did a democratic society allow the same mistake? Of course, this could be chalked up to their "honor culture". Or that they suffer the same basic issue as most democratic governments: corruption. We should at least address this counter argument if you want the original comparison to be convincing.

Japan did NOT commit any of the commie mistakes that came from being a repressive totalitarian regime. They did not have different state depts lieing to each other about the scope of the accident for DAYS. Did not try to keep it secret from the West like a stupid 8 year old, hoping they just won't notice. Japan built a reactor that could survive the biggest earthquakes in recorded history. Then they got hit by the biggest quake, so far, way over the design, AND IT SURVIVED. Then came the biggest tsunami they ever seen and IT SURVIVED THAT TOO. Do you even KNOW what the failiure point WAS for Fukushima or just came here to shit out the generic Kremlin arguement "But the west did it tooooooooo" ?

I wish, but No. 99% of Chernobyl impact was in the USSR -- While USSR declined, elsewhere grew stronger. But the impact of the Vid19 was EVERYWHERE. the more Authoritarian countries suffered worse because of the horrors of Gov ... and Yeah, trump was / is an Authoritarian.. just because he isnt as bad as Biden admin doesnt mean he isnt a twit.

This is quite a nonsense re-writing of history lol. The key point of this video is “free countries dealt better” but look at the US. It too had delayed lockdowns, but worse, it had covid spiral out of control and a mass wave after wave of deaths, and economic crash too. China’s lockdowns however, we’re hugely successful. And, further, the protests came only at a tipping point when the omicron variant had taken hold and the death rate had come down. That is to say: people didn’t think lockdowns were immoral or ineffective. They werent!! They were both moral and HIGHLY effective. But the circumstances changed. Unrest only came after many years of successful lockdowns, and most Chinese viewed them favourably with patriotism throughout 2019-2021. They lived a more free life than western nations did ravaged by the disease.
