Would you be willing to talk about how often you dance in college compared to academic classes and what your schedule was like? That would be really great to know!!

Yes, that is a great idea!

I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm a freshman in high school, and a ballet dancer. You give such great advice. I've been stressing about college and my future, but these videos help so much. :)

This was so helpful! I applied and auditioned for the University of Utah for ballet! Still waiting for the results but this video really helped me to know about the program and know that having a college degree in ballet has helped you!

I think that music theory is important and relevant to ballet because you know how to count the music and your timing is better. I study orchestra, so I'm always finding little similarities between it and ballet. A question/video idea: how did you choose your minor or if you had one, other major?

Good question! I might try to address that in an upcoming video if it fits in with the main topic!

What was University of Utah's policy when girls became injured and were unable to take class? That is what happened if you are unable to take a class that you are graded on?
@TheConfidentDancer8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it has changed this year, but when I was there we had to get a note from the athletic trainers to be able to sit out of class (especially if it was necessary to sit for more than one class). We were allowed 3 weeks to heal from a more serious injury before we had to apply for partial credit. Though things were often ambiguous regarding what did or did not affect our grades, I usually found that keeping in constant communication with my professors about injuries and letting them know explicitly what I could or could not do for specific amounts of time helped there to be no negative affect on my grades.

Is a prestigious dance background necessary to get admitted into an university offering a ballet major? Also, I thought that your early twenties is considered "old" in the dance world and renders it more difficult to get accepted into a company?
@TheConfidentDancer8 жыл бұрын
No, not at all! There were many dancers at the U who did not come from prestigious backgrounds (as well as some that did). Whether or not you are considered "old" depends entirely on the position you are going for. If you are 21+ trying to be in the top level of a training program or a trainee with a company (or even in a second company depending on the average age of the other dancers), you will be considered overage. However, as an apprentice or any dancer under professional contract who dances exclusively with a company and not a school, there are often no age limits (within reason) since company dancers you would be affiliated with could be further along in their careers and, therefore, older.

Hi! Could you maybe talk about what a normal schedule consisted of in college for you and then describe a normal schedule in your company life? Thanks!

Would you be able to tell us more about choreography in college, instead of dancing in college? I want to be a choreographer but am looking into ballet also since I am pre-professional.

Thank you for watching! I'm really glad you enjoy what I put out there. Other than ballet, modern, jazz, and character dance classes are all required courses at the university I went to.

I really enjoy your videos, Kirsten. You are very articulate, and I learn a lot from you! Thank you! Small update question- how is your sister? Did she return to dance after healing from her injuries? Thanks for your videos! :)
@TheConfidentDancer8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! My sister is doing extremely well! She was never able to return to dancing, but she moved on and really enjoys her business job now!
