I rather hope he doesn't. The whole point of Nihilus, one of the things that makes him terrifying, is that he's unstoppable. Only Meetra Surik could stand against him. Nobody else could do it. Not the Jedi, not the Sith, not the Bendu, not the Ones, nobody. Unless Meetra's Force ghost is there to give Nihilus a thorough spiritual bitchslapping, I suspect that any story involving Nihilus would cheapen his character and weaken his menace.

I believe that Nihilis is recovering after nearly killing himself. He attempted to devour the exile and it ended up backfiring and disrupted the connection between his mask and his "body" possibly draining him of all his power. If he is buried on Korriban then the dark side energy would be an iv drip compared to the planets he ate, there's nothing there other than the ghosts in the tombs, animals, or scavenger that wanders in. It would take centuries for him to return to his full strength.

Interesting. I never considered that, but it absolutely makes sense, and it does offer story potential. Still, for me, I always figured that Nihilus was destroyed by Meetra. Meetra and Nihilus were the same after all, in some respects. Meetra was the one being that Nihilus couldn't consume. They both had an affinity for Force bonds, and those bonds gave them strength in wildly different ways. Their battle wasn't so much a lightsaber duel or some epic Force battle, but rather a battle of will. The difference between them was that while Nihilus was a victim who succumbed to the hunger, Meetra had the strength to turn away from it, instinctively cutting herself off from the Force despite how awful such an act was. In that sense, I always figured that Meetra just sort of...'willed' Nihilus to death through the Force? Dispelled his spirit? Sent him to the Shadow Realm? God knows.
@ZacksRockingLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
Imagine if the ending of KOTOR II was Meetra poking Nihilus and then both of them falling over dead, having cancelled each other out lol
@Hybrid9802 жыл бұрын
If it's on instinct, then there is no 'will' involved. She literally cut herself off out of fear, to avoid her trauma and pain that such a wound caused, not because she was an ubermensch that could withstand anything. Literally the only thing that separates Meetra from Nihilus is timing, Meetra was able cut off her connection to the force in time, while Nihilus wasn't. Plus we don't even know the specifics of Nihilus' circumstances that led to him being consumed by hunger, all we know is that he was on Malachor V when that horrendous battle occurred and that it started from there.
@majk1733 жыл бұрын
We share the same point of view. I actually used this scenario back I think ten or fiveteen years ago when I wrote my fan-novel. It was basically a horror story with Darth Nihilus as the big bad. I never considered him dead. Just contained....trapped within the mask.

Bring him back in canon? I don't know how Disney feels about allusions to drug addiction. If they do bring her back then what I would probably scrutinize the most would be how they go about defeating him. I'm still waiting on Chris Avellone to explain why he thinks Revan would defeat Nihilus. But I'm guessing it's by means of some sort of manipulation.
@antonhallergren5883 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on the whole Nihlus and revan question are pretty simple. Nihlus wouldn't stand a chance against revan in a duel but revan is not immune to force drain. Or life drain in nihlus case, because I don't think many would stand a chance against that ability then it would be an easy win for nihlus. Another thing we would need to take into consideration is which point in revans life does Chris mean, I'd say he was not as powerful as meetra at the end of their respective games, but at his peak he is more powerful than her. So could that outdo the fact that she couldn't be harmed by life drain the same way he would Have been. I could see the case made for a peak revan pretty easily as he could almost stand toe to toe with vitiate. (I know vitiate is a whole different kind of threat than nihlus is but still) I agree that it's a pretty fuzzy statement that could use some clarity.

@twinodoom Жыл бұрын
@@creolekolbytv You're misreading the poetry Kreia ascribed to it. The Dark Side consumed his human spirit to keep the physical vessel that carried it alive temporarily, losing nearly every sense of his identity in the process. He lost his soul, his body being driven by nothing more than hunger in a body that needed to constantly feed in order to fight off death at a rate that could not be sustained forever. Inevitably, it would starve if he continued consuming life at the rate he did. It was only a question of whether or not he would be killed before he runs out of food. After that, he's little more than a corpse with the dark power that made him dangerous trapped inside the mask that waits to inflict his fate upon another living person. When stripped of his power and what little remained of his life, he becomes just another corpse.

There is talk of a KOTOR remake that might be able to do something, or they could find a way to work him into something else from the Old Republic era. Or they could find a way to re-introduce him through an Easter Egg in something. Maybe in the Ashoka series she could find some holocron or other artifact connected to Nihilus. If indeed we didn’t truly kill Nihilus that could open up some interesting opportunities for him to play a role at a later time. Like maybe Palpatine tried to recover his mask in order to understand his power.

Dart Nhilus was long dead, he didn't have motivation only hunger, the feedback weakened him to a point where he couldn't regain his full power, possibly killing the hunger itself bringing Nhilus back to being more of the man he was than ever before, either he was stuck without form or chose to remain formless, both make sense, after all he never craved power only for the hunger to end. If he comes back he'd be a plot device, like a force zombie... Different force zombie, hosts would put on the mask charge at those around them drain them of their force, and then collapse as the body itself begins to feed the mask

Now I want him to return in swtor in some event, like maybe a group of sith who specifically follow him and resurrect him or maybe he's resurrected by previous followers of the emperor, either looking for a way to bring the emperor back or viewing him as equal to the emperor as the only other sith who is on his level of power over life and death. It could definitely be an interesting story, maybe start on korriban and have a ziost like event (which explains why later in star wars the sith abandon korriban, maybe this event ended their rule over the planet, a rule that has been weakened already by two separate invasions in less than a decade), with the player character drawn to korriban due to a huge disturbance in the force from the future event and they investigate maybe thinking that it's somehow the emperor returning only for the twist to be another just as deadly sith. Then there could be several missions to learn who the new threat is (catching up those who haven't played kotor 2 and even expanding on the lore) and finding artifacts to defeat him. As for factions either republic or sith aligned characters would want to defeat them as they are a threat to either side, just like malgus, revan, the emperor, the emperor's children and those weird zildrog guys. The only thing against him returning is the same issue with palpatine returning in ROS, it kind of takes away the accomplishment of the exile and her unique ability to defeat him.

But in his defeated state, she was finally free of him, and realized, that like all living beings, even the most powerful, they are JUST people. In the movie The 13th Warrior, Antonio Banderas' character has a similar revelation after he kills one of the "Men who act like Bears", who "want us to think they are bears". The local people believe these enemies to be mystical evil. But, in fact, they were JUST people. I am sure that is what she sees through the Force. DESPITE his power, he was just a man, not a god.

I think he was just a spirit tethered to his armour and Visas Marr once the links were cut he couldn't interact with the world anymore. Well with the all consuming hunger that plagued him and if his new state frees him from that then he wouldn't want to return. But could he return sure it would need a reasonably plausible explanation, will he return I doubt it.

I'm all for bringing characters into canon. In legends I think this is a fun place to come up with stories, maybe he wanted to come back but it just took so much time to get a physical form that it couldn't happen until the legacy era, maybe there was a sect of the sith that wanted to bring him back and searched for a powerful vessel for him to take form. Honestly the possibilities are endless.

Is Darth Nihilus Dead: Yes and no. The man behind the mask died, but the being that is Nihilus remains until the mask - and the Force as a whole - is destroyed. I'd love to either see a new Star Wars game set during the Old Republic, or even an expansion for SWTOR, where Nihilus is the main villain. It could easily be started by finding out that the mask is still intact, leading to chasing down would-be Sith Lords who put on the mask, only to fall under the control of Nihilus who attempts to devour something far more devastating than a planet.
@colagamers2649 Жыл бұрын
Regarding that first theory with his hunger be filled, perhaps the sequels could have been the Death Star (or something else) that destroyed the planet, reawakening the force wound.
@Pandemia6163 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would love to see him return in some way perhaps through the mask. It does beg the question though... how would he even be defeated? You need a wound in the force to beat him I think otherwise he would just consume them. Dude is hella scary.

imagine if nihilus somehow took over yoda just long enough to go find anakin and take him over or consume his power

I don't know much but his mask actually does make a small cameo in the old republic. If you play as a smuggler you can through your story on Tat help either a Jedi or a sith reclaim the mask both offer the smuggler a reward and the sith lady offers something else along with the reward hint hint

I think without his physical being left he starved to death or simply wished to die when he could just like Sion.
@Th3og0ny3 жыл бұрын
My theory that kind of piggybacks off your 2nd theory is that he tried to use force drain on Meetra Surik, the Exile. Ever since the Malachor V ceased to sustain life, Nihilus, Meetra, (and I think Scion) became "wounds in the force". Meetra had a subconcious ability to develop force bonds that were so powerful that if someone was injured, she felt it. And Malachor V she was able to feel the dying screams of everyone on the planet. In order to avoid death, she shattered her connection to the force. Nihilus felt a sense of hunger. He then realized the temporary satisfaction from draining all life of the force gave him purpose to still exist as a physical being even though he's still a walking corpse. Nihilus has been in search for something to satisfy his hunger eternally. Then, just before his duel with Meetra, he tried to drain her of force essence. But, he felt that he couldn't... in fact it weakened him. As you mentioned, he's the pure embodiment of the Dark Side trying to consume the force. Meetra is the exact opposite. The pure embodiment of the Light attempting to develop unity through her companions and others she comes across. When Nihilus realized that he couldn't absorb Meetra's essence, he was filled with rage but at the end of their duel, he may have felt the satisfaction he's been searching for... a way to live/move on. There's no purpose for him to remain in the physical realm if he's unable to consume all life. But in a desperate hope to one day return, he seals his soul in his armor.

2:45 I believe what Visas didn’t mean it in a literally, in a way she saw a man, not actually see a man but in a way. Don’t know how to describe it but it’s probably (like I said) not literally, like she saw him.

@UnswimmingFishYT2 жыл бұрын
The fact that Nihilus was stopped already as arguably the main villain of a story means a second use of him personally would be unlikely. However, his mask being such an interesting item, it's entirely possible that there could be a sith in a later time who finds and uses it, making his legacy relevant to a story while still being more original with new characters instead of just a reboot of the same guy.

I know I’m late to this discussion, but the lack of context regarding Darth Nihilus is kind of the point… Chris Avellone, the lead writer of KOTOR 2 is known to deconstruct common tropes in the media and universes he works on and Nihilus along with Sion are both deconstructions of the character of Darth Vader. Nihilus looks cool with his mask and black robes, but there isn’t much underneath, while Sion is a brute, scarred physically and mentally, who once betrayed his master, yet finds himself ever a slave to someone above him (though in sion’s case, the master he betrayed and the one he’s enslaved to are one in the same). In short, Nihilus is the aspect of Vader that looks cool, while Sion is the actual character underneath the armor.

My take was that we destroy his physical body but he was barely connected to it anyway as he was me after a week of diet entering Burger King- hunger personified. But I think personality wise he was so hollow, so obsessed with consuming that he lost himself, he lost his personality and became a force ghoul that after losing his body in a fight wasn't able to become a force ghost like Exar Kun but something less, a shapeless shadow, a feeling. Or you could say in KOTOR 2 fashion: an echo. So no, not really something that can be brought back but I could see someone in the future "feeling" his presence, his hunger in a place filled with Force energy, obsessed with it but unable to actually consume it. Like me on a die-ok I'll stop before I make myself hungry again. He could be used as a warning to future force users to not go full reta-full dark side, to not lose himself in the dark side completely like Jedi like to do with the light side.
