SLIGHT CORRECTION: I've generally been saying Japanese names in the english order (given name first, family name last) but I got it switched for Miyajima Yoshihiro. So if you were to say with the english order, it would be Yoshihiro Miyajima.

The 'KZbin editing' of Marcille's face is a perfect translation of the 2-panel gag from the comic. I love that the zoom-in doesn't happen until Laos looks up and notices, holds just long enough for the joke to land, then immediately cuts to the next scene. Trigger's editing just makes Kui's humor even better.
@zenkozenko49896 ай бұрын
Honestly? I think the snap zoom in on Marcille's face after Laios says is an homage to modern humor. It feels like so many things me and my friends have sent back to each other at 3 am trying to make the stupider reaction image.
@popogeejo10 ай бұрын
The close up feels like an homage to the excellent “okay” face from One Punch Man. Something about the zoom in and really sticking to the manga panel just really brings that to mind.

I think senshi's face "animation" are a hit or miss for people. I've seen some people love it and others don't like it at all, I personally like how it recreates the feel of the manga where his face doesn't change at all and the only sign that he's talking is the speech bubble. I think it's pretty funny, and as long as everything else is moving properly I'm ok with it.

I suspect this is a gag that'll pay off in the scenes Senshi takes his helmet off.

The silent zoom in of Marcille's face killed me, ngl. It was so unexpected, and I don't really laugh sincerely all that often. So it was nice.

1:02 that third eyelid is called the nictitating membrane. It’s a normally transparent structure found in practically all vertebrates, one of the only exceptions being primates(except for one species). It has many uses. Beavers use them to protect their eyes underwater, and peregrine falcons use them to protect their eyes when diving at 200 miles per hour. It’s definitely good attention to detail that they added it.

Something that is interesting to think about this episode, is that the 'low budget' probably doesn't reflect the whole show. This episode is mostly low, light stuff over all as opposed to what can happen in other anime, and so it makes sense for Trigger to give this episode just enough to be well made and crafted, while saving the bank for future episodes and the events in them.

Great analysis! I found your channel from your first dungeon Meshi video and your production quality is insane. The way you trace things in a shot with the little pencil scratch sound effect for emphasis is really nice. I also love it when anitubers draw attention to the creators of a specific sequence or shot, really recognizing them for their work. Also, insane turnaround on this video given the episode only aired a couple of days ago. I look forward to your next video, whether you're planning to do more dungeon Meshi reactions or not.

I really loved the opening animation style, reminds me of the finale shots from Trigger projects like Kill La Kill. Also I liked your notes on the lack of line work on Red Dragon, I feel like by not having defined lines, it makes the dragon feel consistently massive in every shot

Being a very long time anime fan, I found this to be a refreshing change. I made me feel like it could fit right into the American anime called dungeons and dragons from the 80’s. I have read the manga yet, but this is well written and I just love the artwork and the characters and the voice acting is great. It’s a great change from all these I died and respawned as a…!

This show vexes me a bit, because it's damn near the perfect fantasy anime, and everything about it is great: The characters, the world-building, the tone, the slow-burn plot going on in the background... I just wish it wasn't about _food._ Seriously, I don't care about cooking. I care about dungeon crawling and treasure hunting and monster fighting and weird magical stuff. I even think the idea of dungeon explorers having to gather provisions along the way is interesting and makes a lot of sense, but whenever the cooking segments come up I always wish they'd put that focus on basically anything else.
@swampjawn7 ай бұрын
Well, while it never really **stops** being about food per se, I will say that it does become about **a lot more than just** food. They never stop cooking, but it does become a little less frequent as other problems arise, and without spoiling it, especially in the latter half of the story, food becomes much more of a metaphor for... other central themes.

Subscribed! I usually don't watch analysis videos because they can get... well. But I really enjoyed this. I'm glad you said it was good at the beginning rather than leaving it for the end and super enjoyed your animation analysis! As someone who read the manga and then watched the first episode immediately after I was a bit... unsure? I guess. I think I was being hyper critical. It also took me a bit to get into the voices. But I really did enjoy the episode and all the little details! What did you think about the animation lining where parts of it was like... smudged? I thought it was interesting and I don't think I've seen that kind of thing before.

great video! one thing you didn't touch on was the Dub, which I think is better than the original japanese version! Sungwon cho's senshi and emily rudd's marcille were particular standouts. the japanese voiceover wasn't BAD per se, but it felt a bit low-energy
