Deontay Wilder is hailed as the biggest puncher in the world. But is Wilder actually the boxer people think he is? Or does he have the most padded record of any champion in history? He lost to Tyson Fury, he beat Luis Ortiz, but who else can we say is a great win throughout his boxing career? He had oppurtunities to fight Anthony Joshua, he had the oppurtunity to fight Klitschko, but it never happened...was that on purpose?

He beat two common opponents of AJ, kod them in the first, took AJ multiple rounds to win. Wilder proved he can catch even the most technically sound boxing, in Ortiz, and Fury. AJ doesn't have the heart to push through adversity anymore when he gets hit hard, Wilder IS going to Catch AJ at some point if they fight, Wilder showed he has the kill or be killed attitude, aj doesn't. Wilder will ko AJ. Even his own network and Hearn paid guys says AJ doesn't look very good, and Wilder will probably beat him if they fight and this version of AJ shows up.

Wilders professional career up until about 2015 was more like an amateurs' career. He had a daughter that with a medical condition so he needed to fight for money so they took it very slow. At the 2018 mark, he couldn't get any of the top guys in the ring with him. The whole Joshua debacle was all Eddie Hearns fault. They priced Joshua out of the fight every single time. No where in the history of boxing have you ever had 2 undefeated heavyweight champions fighting for undisputed where the "a" side did not give the "b" side a % split. I personally favored Joshua at that time, but Hearn just wouldn't put him in there with him.

The weirdest thing about Wilder is his rabid online fan base that attack anyone who calls out his pathetic resume and build up his power to mythical proportions, someone who would put George Foreman down easily, most devastating power in history etc. Genuinely believe the vast majority of his fans aren’t boxing fans and have just watched reels of his knockouts of (less than) journeymen and believe his ‘equaliser’ can put anyone down. Put him in the 90s and he’s get destroyed. Klitschko would’ve made a fool of him and even now in his shattered state Joshua would beat him. Also think of the mindset of a fighter who cherry picks opponents so far down in rankings most aren’t even top 40 and dodges fighting a dominant figure like (an aging)Klitschko who was there for the taking to build your legacy. Just think of that. Most want to fight the best and test themselves. Wilder only fought Fury as he believed he was washed up, if Fury never had his breakdown the fight wouldn’t happen. It’s funny the shit Mayweather gets for ‘ducking’ fighters but just compare him to Wilder in who he chose to fight. Pathetic.

The funny thing about Wilder is how whoever was managing him completely failed to make him a draw in the US before Fury showed up. You have a guy who is technically inferior to the top heavyweights, but still dangerous to anyone because of his amazing right hand - he should have been huge in the States. That's a story any competent promotor could work with. Even if he only fought bums, have him follow in Joe Louis' footsteps and fight a bum every month. Put him on every card you can find. I've said something along the lines of this for awhile, This is the reason I won't blow fury's trumpet as well, seems wilder is half of fury's resume, fury is also half of wilders resume, with ortiz being the other half who wilder went life and death with and the best anyone could say about ortiz is in his prime he might of just got into the top ten, solid fighter but never got into position to prove anything, personally I think he would likely give most champs a good fight but lose on points, someone like klitscho/AJ would KO him late. ortiz had most of his best fights after wilder outside his prime, many would say ortiz was passed his best when he fought wilder tbh, not something I'd argue about for or against, either way ortiz has had his best fights in the last 3 years and he's definitely passed it at his top level by then if not before wilder. Fury beat a 40 YO klitscho, fair enough fury was a level above him on the night and klitscho looked very off, fury does have this effect though, but he then dodges the rematch with an injury and then gets a suspended drug ban, the drug ban was a dodgy one on both sides frankly, fury paying people off, nearly bankrupting ukad. But getting popped for elevated levels of nandrolone metabolites is frankly a reach, something nobody with money or sense would take for a PED,, They also tried to do him for failing to prove a sample, which later got dropped. Personally I think all fighters are doping, some more than others, there's a tolerated amount/type, EPO and similar things aren't tolerated, either way you only have to look at hughie fury who got popped for the samething at the sametime to know they were doping, that backacne is a dead give away, anyway my point is this was political anyway, that's why fury's a different guy now, all polished and fake like AJ use to be, just with some character enough for casuals to like him with his bullshit stories. Months before the WHyte fight was 100%, I said fury is going dodge usyk, nearly 2 years later he's still not fought anybody good and fighting a UFC fighter for money without his belt on the line, not very confident, we'll see if fury is a legitimate champion in the next year or not, beating whyte and chisora means nothing other than getting some gatekeepers on your record, anyone in the top ten should beat them comfortably. fury and his team know usyk isn't a good match up for them, hence why DDD got a shot, similar size to uysk, easier to hit to the body, which is clearly a weakness for usyk, they were hoping DDD would have a miracle and pull it off to make that inhouse fight, Wouldn't surprise me if fury dodges usyk again and they're just using his name promote fury's next fight, but fury is in a corner now, most people don't believe his shit anymore, if he dodges again that's all his credibility gone, I think his card with nagenou isn't going to be the money maker they betted on. I think usyk will edge a win on fury, they both have alot of similarities in style, both reserve power, mix up punches but usyk does everything better, feints with his feet more, pressures amazingly, has far better reactions, people say fury moves like a middleweight and all other crap, (yes he moves good for a big man, but remember this division mostly moves like there stuck in the mud in comparison) Usyk will show what moving like a middleweight really looks like when he's in with fury, it will likely be a similar fight to fury vs klitscho, but higher paced and be a closer affair, usyk has a better gas tank, he routinely fights at a higher pace, I see people saying fury will go to the body blah blah and end it in 2 rounds, try hitting someone 6 inches smaller who's changing angles and height alot to the stomach, its difficult, fury's height will 100% work against him for this, not to mention I think usyk hits hard enough to get anybody's respect, fury isn't going to bulldoze him, if he tries he'll get timed and buzzed, maybe put on his arse.

He _was_ that good, or at least on his way to being. Back in the day before he was champ, he was shockingly patient, usually led with a tent pole jab and used it to set up his offense, even if there was still a quite bit of slop. He was making his way up, it's to be expected to a degree. I attribute a lot of that early promise to Breland. It was after he beat Stiverne and started buying into his own hype that the skill and fundamentals he did have eroded and he just loaded up every shot.

The problem is that he realised all he needed to do was conserve his energy and make the shot in the later rounds, when the opponent tired. Wilders knock out punch is no joke. Maybe the hardest one punch knock out blow in boxing history. We’ve seen Wilder lose ten rounds in a row and then land one perfect hit and the fight’s over. The fact that he’s had the career he has as basic as it’s been with such minimal talent is a testimony to his power. I legit think he finished Fury. Fury took so many of those fight ending blows from Wilder over their trilogy I think it may have done some permanent damage. People forget that Wilder was feared prior to the Fury trilogy. Joshua was avoiding him like the plague and Fury took him on almost immediately after he made his comeback and gave him two rematches. He was fearless back then. But now he seems almost afraid to fight Joshua and Usyk even though I personally think they’d be an easier night for him than Wilder. Fury is a better boxer than all three but Wilder is the only one that could potentially steal a win via KO. So I think Wilder may have done a number on Fury’s brain and maybe that shook him into not taking the big fights. Remember he did retire for a minute after the third Wilder fight.
@CP-wh1md
@CP-wh1md 7 ай бұрын
“Took so many of those fight ending blows,” yet they didn’t end the fight. So do we discern from that that Fury, despite showing a questionable chin in numerous other fights, has a granite chin, or more probably Wilder’s power is only impressive against security guards, tomato cans, and bums?
@SonnyK248
@SonnyK248 7 ай бұрын
@@CP-wh1md nah dude Fury is just a machine. Take a look at some of those punches in slow motion and you can see he really did take blows that would knock out a lot of great fighters. No one hits like Wilder. Other big punchers hit you with a flurry and put you down with the last one. Wilder gets beat on for two thirds of the fight and then connects with one punch and the guy doesn’t just go down, he’s completely out cold on the mat.
@CP-wh1md
@CP-wh1md 7 ай бұрын
@@SonnyK248 name one great fighter those blows knocked out. Let’s make it easier, name one legitimate top 5 fighter those blows knocked out. 95% or more of Wilder’s KOs weren’t out cold on the mat. Most of them like Malik Scott were absolutely fine. Quite a few were blows behind the head. Ask Roy Jones what happens, touch a downed opponent. Ask Wilder what happens when you pound on a downed opponent, his answer will be “you win.” Certainly he as laid out 2 or 3 trash opponents, more often it was them quitting, ref stepping in, or like with Scott, going down from punches that didn’t come close to landing. Wilder has wild lucky punches, and the incredible benefit of never facing legitimate challengers. His lucky punch is impressive against an exhausted Grampa Ortiz and cherry picked fighters outside the top 10, but against a weak chinned Fury, they were exposed. Wilder is front to back a charismatic hype job. He made money for the organization, so he never had to take on a legitimate contender. He isn’t a complete fraud. He does have a heavy lucky punch, but it doesn’t match up to the hype. Tua and Briggs hit as hard or harder and did it against legitimate opponents, not some fat Englishman who ran from the rematch with Klitschko and ducked everyone except Wilder. Why do you think that is?

@@CP-wh1md I’m not saying Wilder is a great fighter dude calm down. His skills are below average. I’m just giving respect to his power. Also Fury weak chin? Where are you getting that from the dude is undefeated ffs. He can take a punch and if he falls he can get up and regain his composure as a quick as anyone 😂

Wilder shouldn't ever be considered a great, when his resume is padded with tomato cans. Deontay Wilder defended his title against bums, and many were comparing him to past heavyweight greats without ever seeing him pass any real tests, for instance adversity, title unification, Wilder just fought guys the WBC considered contenders and many were ok with that.

@@pinfold1000 he is not, but what he was? 40 y.o. when he fought wilder? And since then, how many fights did Deontey win since 2019? 1 against Helenius? I mean it's quite bad when the biggest win in your resume 43 wins resume is 40 y.o. Ortiz. It is 100% not enough to be considered great. Joshua has better resume, Fury has better resume, Usyk has a better resume in just 6 HW fights. Even damn Zhang has better resume at this point (and he's never been a belt holder). 1 decent name (well out of his prime) should never be enough to be considered great HW. Since then he also lost to Parker (without a chance) and to Zhang (also without a single chance).

Could you imagine how great Wilder COULD HAVE been if he had been managed, promoted and trained properly? If he actually had some basic skills and professional discapline matched up with his crazy power, Wilder could have been the best of his entire generation, lol

I’ve been screaming this for ages! Wilder is a fraud. He’s only fought 3 top 10 boxers. Fury smacked him, Parker whipped him and Ortiz should probably have won.

To be fair Wilder did show he has massive heart in his fights against Fury, especially th last one. So as padded as his record looks, I don't think he is (solely) to blame for that. In my opinion a major factor for the padding is the promoter & WBC trying their best to keep a HW champion in the US. (Especially since in the last decade all the major boxing stars are non-american)

Propa Boxing down playing Greer and Gavern, those are two boxers I thought would be given respect by a educated boxing fan, they both have fairly stacked records, they never turned down a fight even knowing they were the "tune up." Also I'll be watching in future videos how long it takes for Propa to say how much belts and rankings don't mean diddly squat. Then you start in on Duhapass, that guy is a warrior, my god Propa, stop the Wilder hate, you look silly.

Honestly, no. What got him at the heavyweight top is not just his power but also luck. He was lucky to be a champion of a sanctioning body that allows their champions to cherrypick easy opponents.

I agree with all of this however I still see him as impressive as well as AJ simply because with their very limited skill (especially Wilder) both made the Olympic teams shortly after starting boxing, and then became world champions. Much further than i imagine they believed when they began. Both get my respect!
