I’m so glad I found your channel. I have spent most of my nursing career in dialysis. Our dialysis clinic is actually inside a hospital. We have an outpatient HD clinic and an inpatient HD clinic and then we also do the acute dialysis in the icus. Lots of variety. About a year and a half ago, my manager offered me a position in the PD clinic. I am currently a PD nurse that picks up overtime in HD. I can’t imagine not being a dialysis nurse. It’s specialized to a degree that you can really become a subject matter expert. Glad I found your channel.

Hi Lindsey, I am a graduate nursing student of Nephrology in China. I will probably become a dialysis nurse in the future, like CRRT. people was assigned to a dialysis center in a hospital after attending a four-year college for nursing students in China, after a few years of work, she enrolled in a training program for specialist nurses what we call "血液净化专科护士,(Nurse specialist in blood purification)", and three months later, she’ll get her diploma. the way i see it , the program seems so easy, simple, and meaningless. Nothing changes except a title. Related system started late in China, can you introduce the training of dialysis nurses in your country, such as college education and continuing Education during working in a hospital。 thank you very much.

@@dialysisnurselindsey thank you for the reply. kind of unrelated, what would you say is an unsafe ratio of patients for one nurse to be caring for at a outpatient dialysis clinic?
@dialysisnurselindsey
@dialysisnurselindsey 2 жыл бұрын
The million dollar question! Depends on acuity of the patients. Super sick patients then less of a ratio…stable patients higher patient to nurse ratio. Whatever ratio provides safe quality care 😊

When a patient has chest pain, increased work of breathing, heart rhythm changes during ICU acute dialysis what roles does the dialysis RN perform? Call RR team or call primary nurse first? Can dialysis nurse call for 12 lead EKG or titrate drips to maintain SBP and MAP ?
@dialysisnurselindsey
@dialysisnurselindsey 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! Where I work, the icu primary nurse is the lead. Id get the icu nurse in the room and then I’d page the nephrologist and update them on the patient condition. Depending, the nephrologist might have you end dialysis, or they might make changes to the prescription.

Hi! My name's Rachel and I applied to a davita dialysis outpatient center near me. I am a people oriented person and I love forming relationships with my patients. I really hope they train me well. If you have experience working with Davita or any dialysis outpatient center, what is the hands on training like? will I be trained in how to set up the machines and also how to "stick" people? Thanks!
@dialysisnurselindsey
@dialysisnurselindsey 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel! Training can be overwhelming at first, there is a lot to learn. But the good news is it can be very repetitive! Every dialysis clinic can be different, some clinics the techs do most of the cannulating and setting up of machines, other clinics there is a mix of it. This would be a great question during your interview. I invite you to join my facebook group, it's my favorite facebook.com/groups/215559410197295

At the dialysis clinic, it will depend on who is there, and what time of the day it happens. Usually it will be the dialysis nurse running the code. Some clinics have a charge nurse or clinical lead that would be able to help too. 9-1-1 and the AED
