I was HUGE into Elite Dangerous back in 2015. The only problem was that since 2017, the game hasn't really changed a whole lot and I found myself getting bored doing the same repetitive things over and over again. Sure there were some additions or overhauls (mining, engineers, etc), but the core gameplay was still the same. I ended up playing less and less, and then with the disastrous release of Odyssey, I ended up quitting entirely. Now, years later, I bought my first VR headset, and what game do I try? Well... let's say I'm back cmdrs! o7

The game is absolutely worth it. The deluxe edition (main game plus odyssey) is on sale right now on steam for $10. Even if it’s not on sale, $25 pretty reasonable for a completed game that is still being supported and given new content. People pay $60 for a game that they sink 40-80 hours into. $25 for elite is nothing, let alone $10.

I remember when I first played this game I felt completely overwhelmed trying to learn everything. What to do, where to go, how to get there, commodities trading, what shield I need, how to fuel scoop, how to dock etc. I almost quit because it felt so complicated, but I kept learning everything and now it's one of my favorite and most played games of all time. I smile when I see new players going through the same confusion and I assure them that it's so worth it.
@abelireviews5 күн бұрын
Agreed; the first time playing Elite Dangerous was a magical experience. The promise of exploring the galaxy and the sheer scale of the universe… was incredible. But then reality sets in, and you realize you have no idea what you’re doing or how to begin figuring it out. That confusion can be overwhelming, and every new player seems to go through it. We intend to help new players overcome that initial barrier so they can fully embrace the game without frustration. If we can make it easier for the next generation of Commanders, then we’ve done our job. Thank you for sharing.

There are so many ways to enjoy this game... the learning curve can be steep, but considering that you can play in solo mode, you don't have to worry as much about being a total noob in a ten year old game. Want to shoot stuff? Lots of ways to do that.. want to go explore? Over 99% of the milky way is unexplored... there are a decade's worth of online utilities, third party programs to help find anything you're looking for, video guides on how to play, or how to do literally anything. I used to load the game up at night after a long day and just do cargo runs. You can grind for things, if you're about that, or you can ignore it. You can build a shop that can go immense distances in a single jump, or not. There is no wrong way to play.

It's people like this that allow these developers to get away with murder. I was a console player. I paid full price for horizons. They were developing odyssey for console. For the console community to just bend over and take this from frontier is baffling. WE DERSERVE BETTER! I'm a console player. I'm not gonna be forced to build a $2k gaming pc to play a game that was already on console. I have over 500 hours on ps for what? A dead game with a whole community that they took a dump on. They could have made a console version. They already invested the time and money. Makes me sick that everyone just let them do this.
@DobeyChru2 ай бұрын
@@MistaGeezy90 well, that is a shame. I can relate with you as I logged quite a few hours on my console as well. But I would prefer them to have a game at all rather than the whole franchise be completely crashed because they couldn't handle multiple platforms. I agree, they messed up. But I would still like the game to exist because I really enjoy that universe.
@MistaGeezy902 ай бұрын
@DobeyChru I get that. But if they were just going to give up on us then they should have just never released it on console. But I know they can do it. Frontier just released planet coaster 2 and it's cross platform been pc and consoles. You can even work on the same parks, albeit not at the same time but still. It's not a console edition game. It's one build for all gamers. I know that's a different type of game but it's the same developer. So them saying they couldn't get odyssey to run on console is pure nonsense.

Then took a long hiatus because life. Made my return after buying a gaming PC back in 2020 joining a new crew. Then took another Hiatus dropping back in from time to time. When Ascendancy arrived i jumped back in downloading Odyssey effectively hooking me again. Ive went to Colonia and Sag A* twice, mined when void opals were a thing, Climbed the ranks singlehandedly starting a war and expanding my groups player faction to a nearby system, fought the Thargoids and got all but the Imperial Cutter and a Fleet Carrier (a working yet slow progress). This game is amazing and always keeps me coming back. I even documented my solo trip to the core and back on my IG page a few years back. Love the game and community. o7

I was a kickstarter backer back in the days, I can say that game actually worth it, for the amount of money (and if you buy a key from certain sites you can even get it for less than 3$) you get great experience, I'm not a hardcore day to day player, I just occasionally getting into my anaconda, or corvette, or type 9 and just do whatever I want to, game doesn't hold your hand, that is minus and plus at the same time, I wish devs rework tutorial for new players in Odyssey to make them feel more in game, but ED has so much "inside" mechanics that for some people it's just a big no-no, so learning a game can be challenging for some people. TLDR: Game IS worth it if you are into space-sim/exploration type of game, but I just wish and hope someday ED will be so much more, even though I will be real and say that developers are slow with updates and new inventions for the game due to bad launch of... you know which expansion, and overall not so big of crowd for space-sim games.

Last I played was about 3 years ago, but not for long, now I'm back to give it another go with the new updates recently. Best thing is that it's NOT play to win, I don't care if other players buy paint jobs and support the devs, however I don't like what fdev are doing recently with their "early access" ships which you can only buy with real money for a few months, then they are available for everyone. However since I play 99% of the time in SOLO mode, then it doesn't affect me personally and it's more dough for the devs :)

TBH with you i stopped your video at 06:53 because you are telling what the game can offer and not if the game "is still worth to play in 2024", you know? So i will ask here: Is it worth now a days??? Everytime i try to go back to play, i get bored after 50 hours of gameplay. I never uninstall it, but i feel sadness after awhile. Maybe because of the lack of interest from Frontier to continue to develop it... idk.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Elite Dangerous can be a significant time investment, and it’s easy to feel conflicted about diving back in. In our opinion, the game is still worth it in 2024, especially considering that Frontier Developments has introduced and announced significant updates. Powerplay has received a comprehensive rework. At least four new ships have been added. The Thargoid invasion has introduced new gameplay elements and challenges. Looking ahead to 2025, player-driven colonization of the galaxy will also be introduced. Ultimately, it’s your choice whether the game is for you and whether the above updates are of interest. Sadly, IMO, got a bit stale later down the line where it seemed the devs were just fighting to death with their own engine to add anything new to the game (multi-crew never got stable, they had to roll back pretty planets, because they were too taxing for systems, they went back on their promise of ship interiors etc). Then I tried Star Citizen, and it worked a few times, and those times spoiled me for what a space game could be... but usually it doesn't work, so it's too frustrating to play. Elite originated in 1984 and so did Thargoids and the Sidewinder. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onSXin-Dgcala6s This is a great game with a great history. Your video is a nice compliment to it. Thanks.

If you have friends to play with this is the game. If you are solo you should skip it.
@abelireviewsАй бұрын
Both options are great. Playing any game with people, especially close friends, is excellent. But playing solo is also rewarding.

Is it worth it for consoles
@abelireviews3 ай бұрын
Elite Dangerous on console means you’ll miss out on the Odyssey expansion, which is PC-only and adds on-foot exploration and on-foot combat. However, you’ll still have access to the core exploration, mining, and PvE content from the Horizons expansion. If you’re focused on space exploration and combat, you’ll still find plenty to enjoy on console, but future updates and the ability to walk on planets will only be on PC. Wishing you the best of luck with your decision.
@zerose7en7223 ай бұрын
It's still worth it on console, but if you can, pc is the way to go. Console version only recieves critical updates. So you also can't participate in the thargoid war.

Problem is, when Elite Dangerous IS "worth it" (that is to say, when something especially interesting is happening), the servers can't handle it and it becomes a very frustrating experience. ED is a superb space-sim' but the main thing that players need to understand is that the stuff they do in the first couple of weeks IS exactly the same stuff they'll be doing for the rest of their time playing. It's very rare that anything extraordinary happens... and when it does the servers will fall over and most players won't be able to experience it.

Completely get where you're coming from. While server issues can be frustrating, the vastness and immersion of Elite is incredibly rewarding. Everyone’s experience can vary, but for us, the journey itself has been a big part of the appeal.

I play elite on console and I feel soo left out 😞 on game because the devs has left us so i might just quit elite and play something else if the devs are never gonna come back to console I'll quit playing Elite Dangerous 😔 so I'm just waiting for the game to die on the console

It’s a real shame. If you happen to get a pc, maybe you will be able to come back.

Absolutely not worth it till they put VR in the whole game. No more money ever till they do.
@abelireviews4 ай бұрын
While it would be nice if they added VR to the on-foot sections. I wouldn’t consider that a dealbreaker, just a really great quality of life improvement. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your opinion. It’s always great to hear from other members of the community 😀
@richievelvet4 ай бұрын
I don't have a vr setup, so not a deal breaker to me, tho i see how that would be irritating, especially if you used vr before odyssey.
One hundred hours is a solid effort! We can understand how Elite Dangerous can feel repetitive after that long. Sometimes, taking breaks and coming back for shorter runs can help keep things fresh. Thanks for sticking around for the video and glad you liked it! :)

the problem with elite dangerous is simple , they ignore the single player RPG game segment and now STARFIELD rule the RPG space game
@abelireviews2 ай бұрын
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts. Starfield is a solid game, and there’s much to love about it, especially ship customization. It brings a good single-player experience. Elite Dangerous scratches a different itch, especially its Galaxy and multiplayer. Both games bring something to the table, and there’s room on our hard drives for more than one space game 😀 Thanks again for stopping by and engaging with our channel.

@@abelireviews The game is absurdly time consuming, before it even becomes marginally entertaining; you must play, for hours, before you can play, I was 600 hours in, I had two billion credits, I had all the engineers unlocked, so that I could finally start playing the game properly but by then I was sick of it. The sheer laboriousness of having to constantly feed the game credits and materials from every corner of the galaxy just to get the things I need and don't even get me started on powerplay. This game is fine for someone who can commit to spending all of their time in front of their screen taxiing people back and forth Robigo or driving around Dav's hope in a circuit for God knows how long until they finally hoover up the mats they need but for normal people, who have real life commitments and/or want to make time to play other games it is an unrealistic ask. It takes too long to get anything at all done, the devs need to respect their player's time more by making this game genuinely accessible to casual gamers.

600 hours is an impressive amount of time. Maybe Elite Dangerous isn’t quite your thing anymore, but it seems like it offered something you for a good while. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Take care.
