I'm an old gamer. I've been following the elite franchise since the first game released back in 1984. ED is what I expected it to be from my dreams created by the original. A 1:1 version of the galaxy, VR, Graphical fidelity, Solo or Open, etc. For me, ED is a true spiritual successor to the original Elite. I finally got to play in December, and was rewarded with witnessing the first Titan blowing up on my birthday. Yes, I'm a fan boy now, even though I don't like grind. Very much worth playing for me!

Is it true that ED is dead, or that the game devs have basically ruined a bunch of features and squashed money-making to the ground? That's apart of the biggest criticisms I've heard from the game but I still really want to play it. Idk what's necessarily true.

My gaming time is precious indeed! I only have time when the rest of my household are in bed. Elite is my other life (well, three other lives) either discovering stunning vistas tens of thousands of light years away in the black, managing a carrier full of every ship in the game, or as a mercenary hiring her services to any anarchy faction that will pay her.

There is always something to do. You can even tinker with the Background Simulation on your own. I have checked conflicts of a player faction in Inara, and then helped them win elections or wars in small star systems. You really don't have to do much if there is nobody playing against you. Few report runs, some conflict zone with Vulture. Results are easy to see from Inara. Maybe I could orchestrate a full scale coup one day... Another thing that amazes me is the multitude of Player Groups organized by players, from Fuel Rats to Hutton Orbital Truckers. Absolutely great!

Why are people playing ED? Simple. It's simply the best Sci-Fi flight sim ever created and it offers high complexity, genuine skill, and some astounding RPG potential (and it would be even better if more people played). There's something for every play-style. Want to go asteroid or planetary ring mining? Sure, there's plenty of ships and loadouts for that. Want to travel the stars and explore new frontiers never touched or seen by another human? Absolutely, just remember your fuel scoop. Want to be a space pirate or space cowboy? Hell yeah you can. Want to trade goods or be a space trucker? Got you covered. Want to join a major faction's military? Yup. Want to be a political mercenary? Sure thing. Want to be the most influential pilot in the galaxy? Good luck, but it's possible. Want to be a tour guide? One of the most lucrative ways to make credits. Want to fight aliens? Of course you do, and you can (at your own risk). Want to be a grease monkey that tunes your ship to be a spectacular racing vessel? Hell yeah brother. Want to sneak into settlements to steal classified information? Absolutely. I could go on and on with all you can do, and even then that doesn't even mention the PvP and co-op PvE you can do. Elite Dangerous is everything Starfield tried to be and more. The more CMDRs that join, the better and more immersive your game experience will be.

Great video and I wholeheartedly agree. I play Elite because every time I want to escape, it is the perfect game. There is so much to do and whatever my mood it can cater to that. So variation is the key. I think the part that I never understand is the players who are in such a rush to get (what they see as) the best ship or module or upgrade. As one fellow player says just play the game; and collect materials and credits as you go along and enjoy the process. I know people might not have much time on their hands- I don’t- but Then again I only play this one game. And value for money… yes I paid full price for both…. So £70 for 2500 play over 7 years. I wish my gym membership was this good value.

If you expect to be given a spoon fed narrative that leads you on to bigger and bigger boss fights (yet all strangely the same) and a cut and dried ending with big "YOU HAVE WON" at the end - well - no! I love it, I have seen other people fall out of love with it but for me the game still drags me in. I suppose I'm willing to accept the game as it is - not as I think it should be and whilst I hardly get out onto my space legs and dabble in outpost/settlement action I'm happy to see it there and you never know, I might eventually get into it - but not just yet, I've got the Galaxy to explore.

I started playing in 8th grade because it looked like a game that smart people with good taste played, and I wanted to be one of them. It was very difficult and I had no idea what I was doing, but the prospect of an impossibly vast future seemed ready to open up before me at that time, so I kept playing and came to love it, master its mechanics, and become like with that “older generation,” at a young age. Now I am so familiar with this game that, after trying to introduce my old friends to it, I came to realize how similar it is to driving in more than one respect. So easily do I find myself flicking across my keyboard with ease and navigating panels much like one thinks nothing of pressing in the clutch and shifting gears without a conscious thought, that I never considered how complex and intimidating the game is for new players. I watched them struggle to do things I had never even thought about.

I've not seen or met a Thargoid in the almost 6 years I've been playing because alien stuff is not my gig and there's other things I really enjoy doing and focus on in the game - that's what makes it so cool! If FDev could bring the Guardians back into the game somehow, then things might get interesting for me with intelligent alien gameplay - just one of the many wonderful paths F Dev could take with this game.

I thought about getting back into Elite Dangerous but I don't know. I wish this has ship interiors. Be able to board your ship. Drive your SRV in and out of the ship. Its little things like that, that can make a huge difference in the game especially those who love to roleplay. Atmospheric worlds that we can land on. I'm talking actual atmospheric planets. Someone is gonna pop in and say "go play Star Citizen." You can't tell me that something like what I just said wouldn't thrust Elite out of Star Citizens shadow and make the game more engaging. Its just sad to see folks leave this game to go play a bug infested, 10% completed game. Last I played Elite, I was grinding to hopefully buy a Fleet Carrier for myself and then started thinking about what I'm actually going to do with a fleet carrier and then I stopped playing and haven't played in over a year.

The problem, is what they consider to be "content updates (or major updates all together)" are just updates placed in one area of the Galaxy. More often than not they're only narrative updates that adds a new kind of thyroid or a new component to grind for that already exists and probably could just be engineered to turn into that thing, like the advanced xeno scanner. I live in Colonia. What's any of that do for me? Where is the extra stuff to explore? I'm over here largely exploring unexplored stuff, which you would be surprised how unexplored much of this area is within 15-30ly of Colonia. I found unexplored systems within its very bubble, so to speak. My carrier is out over in Odin's hold. But my main residency is in Colonia, where most of my retired anti-xeno ships reside. I spent about 8 years strictly playing around the bubble. I want to see updates in this game that impact the entire universe. I want to see ship interiors, I want to see atmospheric planets to explore, I want to see caves, I want to see more diverse life and for that you also need atmosphere because one cannot believe for a moment that there would be space grass and space juniper without it. I want to see engine and graphics updates because it's feeling really old right now, even on an RTX 4080 with everything set to Ultra. I want to see DLSS and DLAA Because the game is still a shimmery mess ever since it launched. I want to see ray tracing, I want to see what it would be like to step foot on a capital city like Cubeo. I would definitely come back to the bubble for that if I had to. Also, I'm sure the power play update does nothing for Colonia, where there are plenty of civilizations. At least not in the way of superpowers, which is what I mostly consider to be proper power play and not just general background simulation stuff. I want to see meaningful on-foot: unless we're in space, I would love to see apartments, town centers, trade centers, shops... I would love a builder element, now that we have these carriers that can carry enough crafting materials. Above all? I'd love to see something done with these arbitrarily locked out systems. Some of which were once unlocked, like regor. I mean, what's the point of that? Why is Polaris locked out? That was one of the very first stars (being a stargazer) I wanted to see. As well as the permit lock systems on the known edges of the Galaxy.

@@RicardosGaming 10 years worth of rants, my friend 😂 Yeah, the war was the other thing. I'm sure it keeps bringing some who reside in the bubble back. I followed it, a bit, I believe up till update 14. But it was seeming a bit contrived at that point and I had long been getting burned out of thargoid combat, extending back to when they were introduced. The updates were seeming a lot like this: introduce Thargoid thing and, in the next update, introduce a function to that thing. This could be said for the maelstroms themselves, then the thing in the maelstroms, where then that thing in the Maelstrom gets a function. Instead of just putting things in an organic way, to where players can discover the stuff themselves. Such as how to get to the center and kill the thing in the center of it. So, I now reside in Colonia, completely and entirely. And so it seems like the updates aren't benefiting the rest of the galaxy. Which could be done in a laundry list of ways. I think had Elite gone with more of an everspace presentation it would have been much better off and more guided, with a lot less trying to be achieved and having to worry about neglecting other components and aspects of the game. Sorry voice to text got the better of me on this one. I'd say, if they really want to do the Thargoid thing make it believable and have them attacking every settlement in all aspects of the galaxy because they would not all be confined and concentrated to one area and struggling to make progress, as a hive species. They can witchspace travel and drop in, anywhere, and on a pin's head. We are but mere tourists in their conduits. They could probably hyperdict us if we're all the way out and Beagle Point.

New variants of ships we already have in the game... ;) If they were to introduce an even larger ship, that was loosely based upon the Type 9? I believe that would that fit the criterior?... Whether it would be actually called a Panther clipper, is another matter... But I suspect it may be a possibility? I can certainly envisage a wider, lengthened design based loosely on the type 9? I could also see how this new FSD could possibly be used? To avoid the interdictions? That such a ship, would be extremely vulnerable to... ;) In fact. That is one of the best ways I see of using it? Considering Frontier have said, that they want to encourage more play in open with some of the new BGS mechanics that they are planning? Cheers

I have settings maxed out and reshade on and its just beautiful looking around my cockpit. In the middle of my grind to elite in exobiology so i can get a fleet carrier and access to Jameson memorial. After that I'll do some exobiology outside the bubble to build up funding to let the carrier run on its own for years, grind out factions and try equipping myself to take it to the later titans.

So I love the idea of Elite Dangerous. And even now It remains a game I play often. But it is also not a game I would recommend. There are two main problems. Once you reach a certain point what is there left to do? The other overreliance on procedural assets without expanding the system. I have all the ships I want. My fleet carrier can last for 5 years if I leave it alone. I have elite iii in exo and exploration. Combat is less my thing but I've partaken in it. In a way, it's like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. It is a great game to visit but after a while, it's kind of lonely and you get bored you put it up on the shelf and then a few months later you dust it off and enjoy it and then put it back up.

Is there a reason to aquiring riches in Odyssey beyond a certain point?, what i mean is, do i need to get rich beyond a couple of million to enjoy exploration and aquire the tech needed to persue my adventure, or is it a ''Grind for Greed'' mentality, where you waste time accumulating piles of wealth, that i'll never need. Just asking, not trying to be awkward, as im excited to get started?

I do love Elite and I have barely explored all it has to offer. However, I play games to be entertained. I already have a very stressful job and dont need to take on another. Another game I play is Eve Online. The learning curve and grind of that game is harsh as well. I just want to be wowed... immersed into a universe and completely entertained. Elite has some elements of greatness. The sound team needs an Oscar. Graphics are fair at best. I do enjoy the VR so its nice they offer that. But in the end its an outdated team and engine and idea. Come on Elon... take your billions and finally give us all what we want... and that isnt another job. Cheers.

I have the game and I wouldn't mind paying more for having Elite serving as a space lifestyle game. However, my fear is that there are simply too much to dip your feet into. Watching some gamemplay video, it seems that other players who are pirates are so perfected that I wouldn't comprehend what's going on when getting hijacked. Opportunities and varety are great, but my first requirement would be a sense of structure and direction before I would wanna break out of the mold.

My issues with elite are if i load it now, i have to spend 50+ hours grinding money t5o pay off fleet carrier debt before i start playing I also think that for all the updates theyve made the issues with on foot combat, the bgs and the games economy have not been addressed which really stifles the core gameplay loops and makes it a bit sad to play. Last time I played I considered making an AFK shift for resources and money and thought .. WTF. So no. Not worth it. And it's so heartbreaking to say that. The last engineering update did me. Took my ability to do the highest tier and knocked them down.

I moved over from Xbox to PC on the Lenovo Legion Go. Before once consoles were cut, I stopped playing Elite around that time, I did try to return but it was just bland and empty. I ended up getting Odyssey a week before a sale... FML lol But man, I absolutely love it, lying in bed and although I'm currently making my way out of noob space as I had to restart over, Odyssey looks beautiful. I was always more a scavenger, search and rescue, espionage trader and it works well in Odyssey. The difference compared to Xbox is blatant, Xbox the game is dead but PC it feels alive and it's great to be in open without needing gamepass. Now admittedly I'm more on Uboat than Elite nowadays but when I go a day without atleast logging into Elite Dangerous, I ensure I do the next. On the Legion Go, it gets 60fps and more on high settings... It's absolutely beautiful on a handheld.

One can after purchasing a video game playing device. Purchase this game for some 60 dollar's, though I've seen it on sale for as little as 5 dollar's. What make this game or any game worth the purchase price; Is how long does one actualy play's the game. Playing a 60 dollar game for that of only 60 hour's, work's out to be that of one dollar per hour. Playing the same 60 dollar game for some 600 hour's, make's the cost that of only ten cent's of a dollar. Playing the same game for some 6,000 hour's and it's only a penny per hour. Game's envolved it what is referred to as "OPEN WORLD" have longer playing time's than those not referred to as "OPEN WORLD". And games referred to as "SAND BOX" game's. Have to the N-th degree, a considerably longer playiing time. The conventional games, have one simply follow a trail from begining to end. Via a particular path. An "OPEN WORLD" has one choose a particular path, which will take you to the end game. An "SANDBOX" game, allow's one to go in any direction's follow any path, and genereally the only end game is when one's imagination comes to an end. I'm now over 75 year's old, didn't start playing video game until my retirement at 66. Since my first game called No Mans Sky, in which I invested well over 6,000 hour's of play, moving on to Elite Dangerous, which I've got well over 7,000 hour's of play. And the HITMAN series, which I bought day one and now have all three. Well over 10,000 hour's of play. All three are that of being "SANDBOX" games. Being fully retired, I've got some 8 hour's a day to invest in the playing of any game. Assuming I played 8 hour's every day for the nine year's I've been playing. Which though I could have but didn't alway's. It work's out to be that of over 26,000 hour's. I could have invested in one game, or divided it amoung numerious. When one takes into effect the total investment in either a console or even an expensive state of the art gaming pc. And just one 60 dollar game. Using the price of a console for instance which is now some 500 which generally include's at least one game. Not counting the electrical, the various internet connection's. Playing any one game or more for the duration of the device is less than pennies per hour's over the duration of a console and the free game. There isn't any other hobby one can get envolved in, that is so inexpensive as that of video game playing. And all in the comfort of one's own home.

Short answer no, elite dangerous is not worth the investment of time and energy. The odyssey update really ruined the game. The game is directionless. Many broken promises by developers. Don’t get me wrong the game can be fun at first. Once you realize what you need to do in order to get those amazing engineer upgrades for your modules, you will get overwhelmed. It’s not an if, it’s a certainty. You cannot encounter new civilizations… I don’t care what this guy says. The thargoids aren’t even introduced to you. Why they’re there. There’s no introduction, no build up. I never encountered one once “randomly” in the game. You have to fly out a billion light years to a sector to kill them. You don’t know why you’re killing them. They’re just another enemy to blow up. But don’t think you can just roll up in you’re newly acquired viper mk2 and think you’re going to do anything but become a red smear on your canopy. You’ll need to engineer the crap out of your ships before you can even think of takin on that task. Then you’ll say okay, let me start engineering my ships… yeah, okay! Like sitting outside a star port honking at ships and scanning wake signatures for hours on end. It’s all rng btw so you could do it for Hours and still not get what you need. Like to play a game when you park your srv, that’s you’re drivable buggy btw, to a spot on a moon and collect items, log off and back on, a thousand times? You guessed it. It’s still rng so you may still not get all the required engineering items you need. We’ll buckle up because that’s the grind kid. To sum it up, none of this is fun. The game is built on a broken, directionless, grind loop, Where you make your own fun. It’s bs there are no other civilizations in the game that you can meet and talk to. The game will have you grinding un-fun things for hundreds of hours. You need several external websites to navigate the game properly, the op didn’t mention that once in his vid btw. Trading is a sham. You like hauling hydrogen fuel for two hours back and forth a trade route for an 10grand a round trip? Because I sure the hell dont. Want to be like dog the bounty hunter? Nope this guys wrong again. You have to pledge your allegiance to a faction and there’s only really one faction you pledge to if you want to make any money. Not thrilling or engaging. But let’s say you do bh, after all it’s a great revenue source to start out. Well, you’ll go to some gas giant and look for a zone that you can fly to and scan ships for a wanted tag and shoot it down over, and over, and over again. You don’t get to haul anyone in, etc. You want to play in open and test your mettle agains other players? Gl with that. I tried that and got insta ganked in a fully engineered ship by some guy, I mean commander…” the had invulnerable shields and hacked weapons. Sound fun and engaging yet? Trust me there are so many other space ship games out there that do it better. Sorry for the long rant but I truly want people to know what they’re getting into before they jump into the hell’s cape that is elite dangerous. God bless and safe journeys!
