My friend asked me to play Elite with him when it came out. Apparently, I had logged about 80 hours, but stepped away due to not having the adequate time to really immerse in the world... 3 years ago, I got it for another pal and we messed around for about a week, but ended up not diving in... Now, in 2024, My kid graduated from college and I've found the time. I've only got about 700 hrs into it and I am Blown Away by the Scope of this Experience. I also have Star Citizen, but Elite just Feels Complete... Out in The Black is Serene and Beautiful to Behold. Cheers, Commanders!

Star Citizen has better graphics and ship interiors… but that novelty wears off quick because it’s an agonizingly bad experience to play still. Elite combat feels so much better and polished, along with a ton of other activities that just work like a finished game is supposed to work :). One day SC will probably be better, I my guess is that’s still multiple years away (even though they claim 1.0 soon.. but I have my doubts)
@adamleblanc52945 ай бұрын
@@zacharypump5910 I just tried the free fly for Star Citizen. One of my biggest gripes is something that can't be fixed. It's the size of the station and having everything be something you need to go physically interact with in the world. It's a cool concept, and nice to have some variety but wears thin really quickly. You basically need an entire game session to prepare for a game session. There is no real game play value added by having so many of the support systems (shopping, loading cargo, etc) trying to be "as real as possible". It just makes it take longer to get to the things that you actually want to be doing.

@@CapnCrunchESO There are lots of good ways to make money. You can become a billionaire 100x over doing any of the in-game career paths. Some of the ways give more dollars per hour, but at the scale you get to once you start gearing up, it really doesn't matter anymore. Exploration, biology, mining, all the different space combat options, trading, playing politics, and even the on-foot missions can earn you more money than you actually need. If you do things in the game that you find fun, instead of just focusing on making numbers go up, you will still get rich. I have played Elite dangerous for almost 8500 hours and have achieved elite rank in 4 different areas so far working on the Mercenary category now. I enjoy the challenge that each area has given me so far. Started playing in 2017 and played for a year or more mostly core mining the exploding ice core method and when they greatly reduced the payouts of mining it pissed me off so bad that I played No Man's Sky for a year instead. I stopped playing No Man's Sky because of maxing out at the 4 billion credit limit that they have which greatly reduce my motivation to play their game. Elite Dangerous has basically unlimited play for 20 dollars U.S. at the moment. When you have become Elite in all categories at that point you can take on the challenge of finding everything listed in the CODEX which should keep you busy for at least a year or two.

Just got my pc 7 days ago. Downloaded star citizen and joined the discord and met some great people whom I play with. The bugs and jank turned me away but I still hop on to help my friends enjoy their time with it. We usually get laughs out of the experience but in the back of my mind I would never spend money to continue to play it after free flight is over. It’s just not that good. They’ll never finish the game because they make a lot of money with the incomplete version and that’s ok because that’s their prerogative. Bought elite dangerous for 10 bucks on sale and absolutely fell in love with it. Better tutorial better AI and better combat. And I don’t need multiple people to have fun on it. Also way less bugs. So I spent money on it because it is very much a great game. I do wish elite had a food and thirst mechanic and that I can fly my ship in a better 3rd person mode and I do wish ground combat had leaning but those are just personal things. Other then that I say elite outclasses star citizen in many ways…… thank you

ED is great in so many ways, but the decision to adhere to "realistic" space travel physics still results in catastrophically long travel times - and that's always been the Achilles heel of this game. New players logging in, taking a mission then seeing that it will take 20+ actual minutes to travel to their end point (intra-system) is an absolute dealbreaker. Sure, not all systems are that big, but many are massive - and the travel times are atrocious. For all its faults, when you're doing long distance travel in Star Citizen, you can still walk around your ship, rearrange cargo etc. In this case, you're cockpit-locked and just traversing. I love ED - but that will always limit this game's appeal to more casual players.

well for starters elite dangerous is actually a game at all instead of merely a gorgeous tech demo with game-like interactions haphazardly stapled to the side of it. i mean, i love star citizen, i play star citizen even to this day, but I'm not about to kid myself; it would be dishonest of me to try and sell it for anything it's not. Are model trains 'a game'? I submit that they are not. They're a hobby. Star Citizen is model trains in space, except they're ships and you can walk around inside them. There's no REAL goal, and nothing that looks like a story unless you squint, and no sense of progression except money. still fun though, and still gorgeous, but not a game. There wouldn't be an online space game until Stellar Emperor in '85 on CIS. But I digress. I like how you imagine the ideal audience for games. I think you nailed it with this one. I can't even land on it to look for spires to kill the aliens... JUST A LOT OF.. you guessed it.. NOTHING!
