I am under the care of a Senior Dietitian who insists I am too old to fast ( 73) . I like fasting , i enjoy feeling a little hungry

Have you looked for a keto dietician? Fasting puts you into ketosis so a keto dietician may be better equipped to help you continue fasting even if you don’t eat according to keto principles.

I think some doctors and dietitians are often rather conservative and don't really know a lot about fasting. Maybe you should get a second opinion.

I think eating and drinking during a fast makes it more difficult. If you drink fruit juice in the morning, it spikes your bloodsugar, spikes your insulin, followed by hypoglycemia and feeling hungry and weak. In a real water only fast, you burn fat all the time, your bloodsugar is stable and you do not get hungry. If you do want to eat something on a fast, then eat fat! Fat does not spike insulin!

Water fasting on the other hand is very stressful for the body, which is why we don’t recommend it. Then the hunger disappears faster, the intestinal walls and microbiome change, which positively affects your immunity as well as your mood. And it also helps with headaches.

When I tell anyone in America that I've had great success with fasting they say NO THATS SO BAD im 60 and 40 lbs down from the set point I've lived most of my life,now I'll say what's bad about it im thinner than ive been since the 80s .

Dear Dr. Wilhelmi de Toledo, I have asked this question elsewhere too: Do you have experience with long term fasting being helpful for Rheumatoid Arthritis in your clinics? I have developed severe RA that modern treatments are not able to control. The excessive inflammation is now damaging my brain, heart, eyes in addition to my joints even with high doses of steroids and biologicals. My doctors are running out of ideas and I am starting to discuss fasting with them but they have no experience. I am not asking for medical advice, only if you have seen long term fasting actually help a severe autoimmune condition? Or the stress of fasting might make matters worse? Fasting may be my last and only hope but I still want to be careful. I believe in some video (I cant remember which video) you say that the fasting should be a minimum of 21 days for autoimmune diseases? If the first round does not make changes then you should do it again? Anyone else improved their RA or other autoimmune condition through long term fasting? Please reply, share your experience.

thank you for the video. i don't understand why you say that using the fasting box is "not real fasting". i thought the contents of the box correspond with the same stuff that patients get while they're at your clinic, does it not? how many calories a day would you consider a 'real fast' (other than water fasting i mean) - there are plenty of people who say that if you eat even just a little thing, it's a not a 'real fast'.

Water fasting is very stressful for the body, which is why we don’t recommend it. Our FASTING BOX soups, on the other hand, contain about 600 kcal per day. This makes it possible to experience a fasting experience during normal everyday life. In principle, we recommend long-term fasting always under medical supervision.

if it's physiologically so normal to go long period without food, why do we have to be cautious about proper reintroduction. If you where an animal looking for food you would just feast when you find it. Also, this idea of what is wrong and right food I don't understand. We have taste receptors connected to our nervous system that reinforces positive feedback for certain foods. That counts for meat, fat, sweets.
