I read of a keto practitioner who compared chronic disease with the amount of seed oils, sugar and meat consumed in the USA each year since 1920. Seed oil usage grew in lock step with chronic disease. Sugar usage grew with chronic disease much of the time but not nearly as closely as seed oil. Our keto man was surprised.

How much work-related stress were you under during fasting? I was lean on clean low carb but felt like ***. On an all-meat and fat diet, I felt worse than that. I did low carb for 8 years, and it seemed my stress was getting the best of my health. Now that I eat clean, moderate- to high-carb meals, I feel better and am less stressed. Maybe different strategies work better for different people.

As for intense exercise, I love Paul's opinion. As running, evolutionary creatures, we have a "fight or flight" mechanism for a reason. It's because if we can sprint, or fight off predators, we survive. If we can't, we get checked out of the gene pool. The most important part of exercise is the recovery period, not the fat burning during the exercise. Rest is when you get fit, and the more intense the exercise, the quicker you get fit because you body is thinking you are to get killed if you don't get fit real quick... The whole aerobics/cardio being the best way to lose fat came from Dr. Ken Cooper back in the 1960s, and most people still believe this baloney that makes no sense...just look at the difference between distance runners and sprinters. Which ones look like they have more muscle and are in better metabolic shape? Evolution never lies...science, interpreted by humans does, all the time...

I love Paul... but I admit that it's been triggering how much he changes ...which doesn't mean he's wrong. He's obviously doing his research and the results speak for itself... he always reminds us that your mileage may vary... just as Georgi says too. Still, we should all do our research and apply the information to our own individual situation and bio reality. I have achieved success with Keto and fasting but now I see that it doesn't always mean that those were the sole reasons for success. The intermittent fasting usually means we omitted all of the toxic things we were consuming... going keto or carnivore could lead to short term success for the same reasons... just as going vegan seems miraculous in the beginning... we have to look long term as Paul has done... which is why he has adjusted his diet so much over the years. One side doesn't fit all... we can find value with Paul, georgi, as well as Shawn Baker and Ken Berry, Anthony Chaffee, etc.

That said, raising cortisol on extended basis is nuts. I have had chronically raised cortisol over weeks and months working with addicted people for the last 25 years. Working with addicts while doing one meal a day turned me into a basket case mentally and physically for six months. Trust me, chronically raised cortisol is bad. It is very bad. Very interesting content. I am T2 diabetic and follow the Mastering Diabetes plan, which is Whole Food Plant Based - low fat (10-15% of calories eaten per day are from fat, which is quite low), but...I have to say my fasting BS went from the 170s to about 115 and lower, and my A1C went from 7.4 to 5.9 in about 5 months. I lost 45 lbs (without added exercise) in 5.5 months. I DO eat resistant starch in the form of steamed potatoes and yams, and I do well with them. Thing is, this program promotes intermittent fasting, saying it lowers blood sugar, but I feel VERY resistant to doing it. I'm 52 yo and in peri-menopause and just don't feel it'll be good for me. Your show confirms this & I'm appreciative b/c nearly every other show is promoting fasting and I end up feeling guilty...NO MORE!! Thank you!

I had a negative experience from I.F. I did 18:6 for a month- about 4 days a week. I lost 15lbs and never gained it back. I am now too thin- doctor does not have any answer. BMI is technically in range at 20 so she is not freaking out but I am too thin, says everyone...all the time which is annoying. I think I sped up my metabolism 14%. I realize I.F. is probably great for many people- this is simply my experience. My n of 1 means very little but just good to be aware of. Like anything, a take it easy approach is wise. I am glad I did not over do it either...and I still lost too much. NO- this is not a good problem as many like to tease me about.

@@stevenbrown835 Thank you my friend. You are right. We visit parts of Asia and I would still be considered fat in those places. I eat very healthy and I work out. I've always been thin but I am a little sensitive about it- as a man, it's less cool or something. My HS teacher bullied me in front of the whole class- called me 9-iron. I think he meant thin like a golf club or something- they all laughed. Now, at my BMI of 20 (that the wife actually likes- some abs going on), I get comments all the time. "Are you ok?" "You look too thin- are you eating?" "Have you tried carbs?" Just tired of it. Health-wise, I think I am good. I hike- summited Half Dome, Angels Landing, Death Valley, various peaks. I run several times a week. In the gym I am strong enough- no weaker than in the past. I did lose a gallbladder a few years ago so I might not be digesting fats too well- there are ways to tell. I also dabbled with I.F. since everyone said it was so great but I could not gain anything back. To your point, I just had a full check up and all is good. I also insisted on numerous tests and they were fine. Some I was a little low in the range but not too bad. My cholesterol was great. I actually have more HDL than Triglycerides. My ratio is like .50. There is no concern unless is around 2. The ratio is what matters. Sugar was 5.1% which is decent. Would prefer 4.x but unless it is 5.7, you are ok. Thanks.

What they are saying about fasting effects on cancer flies in the face of Thomas Seyfrieds work. He has shown that targeting glucose and glutamine will starve cancer since these are the 2 primary energy drives of cancer. You do this with extreme methods of fasting. I'm 31 and not healthy and have been intermittent fasting for a couple years and I'm definitely doing worse now than before. Attempting extended fasts definitely seem to be really bad for me as well and that's only 2 or 3 days, longest I've managed was 7 days and it was horrible. My chronic pains and whatnot just keep getting worse. I guess I'll be stopping the intermittent fasting for a while to see if I do any better eating normally. Disappointed tbh, I believe fasting to be very beneficial, but I guess like with most things lately, it's not good for me.

@@wesleymalutama3651 Real foods, I stopped the processed crap a couple years ago, even all breads and grains for the most part, it's just I continue to get worse and whatever I eat seems to negatively affect me in some way. What I eat varies, but the typical stuff that I probably shouldn't eat have been a big part of my diet, namely seeds and nuts. I've done lots of vegetables from time to time as well and in fact I was jumping on the vegetable train about a year ago before I realized meat was what I needed and vegetables do in fact negatively affect me more than I thought. Maple syrup and honey are also some of my guilty pleasures and some fruits. I've been eating a lot more meat lately and I'm starting carnivore today and hopefully I can make myself stick with it for at least a month. I've attempted it multiple times before but I always ruin it by adding stuff to it or just eating other stuff other than meat after only 3 days or so. Idk for sure if the fasting has made me worse or not, but I sure seem to suffer a lot when I attempt extended fasts and intermittent fasting might be increasing my cortisol too much which might explain my pain always getting worse and whatnot. I've also started eating a lot of sardines and odly enough when I ate only sardines for 4 days, I felt a lot better that usual, so although I'm already tired of them I'm definitely going to keep eating sardines. Also eat a lot of eggs but I might have a sensitivity to them, so sadly I'll be cutting that out for now

@@Dudemeister777 you are doing well eating sardines, honestly. (very nutrient-dense). please try the carnivore diet, eat as much as you want, if allergic to eggs, then eat the yolk for now. cut out intermitent fasting also, your body seems to be signaling that you re not doing well with it. the carnivore diet done well should (like it did for me) help you and naturally carve your way to time-restricted eating, honestly. not you forcing it because its hard to binge on carnivore. also give it time, try it strictly for at least 30-90days. Sardines are so good for you, eat when you can, lots of fat...saturated, butter etc. Gut issues gone in a week for me, which i seriously suffered from for over 10 years. Good luck!

@@vonclare1 I'm already planning to do everything you said and honestly have already been doing it to an extent lol. I use to eat liver as well but stopped, though I'm probably going to start again. I was also eating tons of butter for a while but stopped. I definitely plan to start eating it again, in fact I just stocked up on some. I really don't care for sardines much anymore, but I can definitely tolerate them so I'm definitely going to keep eating them, especially since they seem to be what has helped me the most with certain issues. I've attempted carnivore a couple times and failed due to cravings and getting bored of just eating meat, but I intend to stick with it this time. I was also big on seasonings, but I'm going to try and only use salt for now. Although I never managed more than a week at a time doing carnivore in the past, I've definitely noticed that just those couple attempts I did and my current regular intake of more fatty meats and protein has definitely helped a lot of my gut issues, most of which I've been dealing with for 20+ years, so although I'm still a mess health wise in many ways I've already gotten benefits. Also not sure if it's because of all the fat and protein I eat now, but I've noticed my eye sight also seems to be getting better. I always struggle with sticking with something and carnivore is no exception, but I'm sick of being sick so I really need to get my head in the game and stick with it.

The huge insulin release from the starch, fat combo will also make you incredibly tired afterwards. Good thing about fruit and juice is fructose doesn't stimulate insulin and therefore there's no post meal lethargy. Milk helps a lot with starch cravings btw and keeps me satiated all day

Fasting is super good for chronic illness and finding mental and spiritual connections individual to each person/situation. Development of humility and patience by not snacking all the time. Knowing what your food is worth and not eating too much. Also you can help a fast by eating things like green tea, raw garlic, raw onion, chunk of raw liver/heart/vitamin c, b vitamins, organic nutritional yeast (non fortified), sauerkraut, lemons/key limes, kimchi, sea salt/electrolytes, activated charcoal, water with salt and food grade baking soda ect... What exactly does Georgi mean by gelatin at 19:00 - 19:30?

This is discussed a lot on the Ray Peat Forum. What is recommended is made by a company called Great Lakes (I bought on Amazon last year). It is what you use to make gelatin - i.e. "jello", but this does not have added sugar, etc. Great Lakes was always a good brand, but now I might look for something more grass fed - maybe like the beef from the supplement line that Paul sells. I believe he and others just take a spoon in water (or other beverage) and drink it. You could also do what I do and make collagen rich meat stock (not bone broth) - from meaty/collagenous soup bones. I don't know the exact AA composition of this, but since it seems the high collagen is what is good , I'm assuming it is a good thing.

Respectfully, I think you could do a great service to the Carnivore community who might like to have fruit, to have a podcast with Dr. Paul Mason to discuss introducing fruit into a Carnivore diet. I think it would be a brave thing and one of the best podcasts ever. Thank you.

Dear Paul, would you have any advice on tahini a very tasty ingredient used in popular recipes? It's made from sesame seed paste. Since it's a seed oil, would it be considered a PUFA?
