The biggest problem with this mentality is that a big part of training revolves around risk management. All athletes face the risk of injury and it is disturbingly easy to push too hard and screw up the rest of your season or even the rest of your career. I don't know whether the team that Femke trains with are very fortunate in that department or whether they are very clever about training and recovery or both, but the whole team seems to have been mostly injury free during the time they have been together. If you are saying, the only way for her to win is to ignore the risks and give everything she has got, this will almost always end up with a worse outcome, because even without injury, insufficient recovery is detrimental to performance. This is why athletes rely on the expertise of the coaches.

Femke Bol is the QUEEN of 400m Hurdles in some respects (to be fair). Reigning WORLD CHAMPION, European Champion, Dutch Champion, and Wanda Diamond League Champion. No other woman in history (past or present) has more 400mH TOP 20 and TOP 50 fastest times ever recorded. 9 of 20, and 20 of 50. However SML has the 3 fastest times now ever recorded. SML can run 22.00 on the 200m. BOL can run the 200m in the neighborhood of 22.60. SML has the advantage on the 200m by about the amount of time separating their PB's on the 400mH (50.37 vs. 50.95). BOL is starting to understand she has to DIE that first 200m if going up against SML or just trying to set PB's and not MR's. BOL says she is proud of herself for dying the first 200m now. BOL has the 500m closing strength most other 400m runners can't match. BOL is the WR holder over both 300mH (36 sec) and 500m Indoor (65 sec). Should BOL run the 400mH as if she is running the 300mH. YES! Karsten Warholm has his foot on the gas the entire 400mH distance.

So this hyperbole that Sydney is an untouchable 🐐 and will leave Femke in the dust is just that - hyperbole. Both of their first 400h races of this year were great considering no one was there to push them. Just remember what Dos Santos just did to the untouchable Norwegian 🐐 this last week! Syd's peak potential is definitely higher than Femke's rn, but Femke is also an entirely different runner from when they last competed in 2022. People forget that Femke is *also* a world record holder herself now, and that unless Syd runs a 1300+ point mark again, Femke will capitalize off of it and potentially edge her out in the end. Hopefully Femke races a couple more times to get more data/confidence, but it'll be closer than people think imo.

Did you not see Syd run a 48.75 400m OPENER yesterday in terrible wind conditions (closer to 48.5 in better conditions) following her 22.07 (-0.3) from 2wks ago?!
@RunnerBoi6 ай бұрын
@@AllInTheGame0148.75 outdoors is 1256 pts and 22.07 (-0.3) is 1231. Her 400mh opener of 52.70 was also only 1246 pts. Syd's in great shape but compared to her 2022 season, her season openers are objectively worse overall from a raw performance standpoint (Sure, she's improved in the 2 and open 4 but idk how that's super relevant). She opened up with 51.61 in the 400mh in June 2022. Not to say Femke hasn't put up anything extraordinary either, but to say they aren't *that* close this year so far is a bit dishonest. I don't know what you're getting at here, all I'm saying is that Femke Bol has notably improved *overall* since their last showdown, and Syd hasn't put up anything super groundbreaking that would suggest she's gonna run 50.5 or something lmao.

Bol just needs to do whatever she feels is her job...but SM is in another universe. The sports media NEEDS to face them up...always..for many reasons. One the bloody obvious...then the athletic achievements, etc. I only looked at a few secs of Bol to see her times, cos the media was hyping the match-up so much. It's not even close...as far as times go, yet competition is the opportunity to shine....champs and underdogs. I want great battles everywhere in these games. I always go with the Jamaican sprinters, yet in the 400m H it just has to be SM, world record again, 1st time under 50 secs....it just has to be.

Nope. Femke doesn't have to die for it. This 2024 Olympic 400 m hurdles i think will be a complete different story. Up till now Femke didn,t used her well known after burners. Burners she clearly is saving and WILL use at the 400 hurdles at the Olympics. At the Olympics she will stay a bit behind Sydney until the last 80 or so meters and opens her boosters. Femke not only is a fast runner, but she also is very smart. She knows she must be 100% fit to beat Sydney . This is the reason she now isn,t using her boosters and not giving it her all.
