I’ve actually been looking for an online guitar lesson platform strictly for beginners since I’ve never played in my life. If it can successfully teach me the basics and keep me wanting more I can always hop over to another advanced platform like guitar tricks.

Totally! Fender play sounds perfect for you.

I’d look into Andy’s guitar on here, he will give you the basics plus has videos strictly for beginners, learn strings, learn chords, and your basic note structure, and then once you have muscle memory down so you can flip from note to note without thinking you’ll be ready for a more advanced course. Don’t waste money on learning the bare bone basics, it’s going to take 6 months to get the muscle memory down, and that’s if you practice everyday

I've much work to do on my pull-offs, hammer-ons and strumming. Yet judging from your remarks, the Fender Play course might NOT be suitable for me. Your review was highly informative. Thank you

As someone looking at testing out a guitar, the Fender Play platform sounds like its built to do exactly what its intended to do. Eg, introduce someone who's never held a guitar to the basics, to lower the intimidation and barrier of entry. I suspect that eventually, as the aspiring guitarists skill increases, they're going to eventually need to seek a professional instructor instead of relying on online coursework and videos. You pick up the entry level Fender kit, use that 3 month sub to Fender Play, if you find its for you, then continue.

Thank you for the heads up on this. Is there anything that takes you all the way from beg to advanced?

Thank you for sharing this. I was considering fender play, with intermediate and advance stuff in mind. Is there a another app/site that you would recommend for more advanced lessons?
@TheodoreGuitar Жыл бұрын
Hey Tasha, so Paul David’s has an excellent course for intermediates called Next Level Playing. I also have been really impressed by Pickup Music. Their platform is similar to Fender play but is definitely a lot more intermediate/advanced oriented.

I totally agree with you. I'm an intermediate player and the course goes incredibly slow. Good for beginners. Not for intermediate and above.

Thanks for the video. I’m a beginner so I’ll give them a year then try something else.

i found navigating the course hard work ,apart from that the tuition was good.

But do they have at least theory? To learn notes, scales?
@TheodoreGuitar Жыл бұрын
Yes they do include music theory. If your trying to learn basic music principles it is a great course.
@Arkadius87 Жыл бұрын
@@TheodoreGuitar Actually I am interested in theory, and while playing to know what I'm actually doing, and where I want to go. My goal is to learn chords and how they are created, strumming, all notes, and of course scales, legato etc. Thank you for that. Cheers 😊🍻

I was thinking of trying fender play out, as my guitar teacher is quitting doing lessons from next week, however your review has made it clear to me fender play isn't for me, do you have any recommendations for the intermediate play, many thanks 🎸🎸

Hey, I just made a review on pickup music and I think that would be more suited to you.

I can’t read music so I’m screwed….😕

As a 24-year play-by-ear guitar player/producer with numerous full length album releases over the years, and who also can’t read music, and is a big Van Halen fan (EVH couldn’t read music either), I tell you with every bit of confidence that reading music is not necessary whatsoever for developing proficiency on an instrument. I repeat, you do not need to read music to play it. While reading music has some benefits, it is more for a specific skillset that most musicians really don’t need or even ever use. I dare you to just learn a few chords and witness your power without wasting a single second trying to learn to read music. I have a lot of respect for people who can read music and apply it in skillful ways, but again, you really don’t need it.

@@Jesse.Johnson Thanks for taking the time to write and explain, Jesse. Perhaps before I’m old and feeble I’ll pick up a guitar once I learn some of the basic vocabulary. If I become the next Eddie VanHalen (may he rest in peace) I’ll credit you when I’m picking up my Grammy! 🎸

@@CCscott ❤️ I’ll hold you to it. Go get that Grammy.

I’m with you mate, all of a sudden I always wanted to play an instrument but thought I had no chance! Recently, (& I’m 55 now), I thought “sod it” I’ll buy a guitar but then I kept talking myself out of it as knew I didn’t even know what a note, let alone a chord was. My missus talked me back into the shop, I bought a Squire starter pack electric guitar & amp & it comes with 3-months of Fender Play, this suits me down to a tee as i really was not wanting to do weekly lessons somewhere. I like it and I’m not trying to be great, but just being able to do a simple riff is a buzz!
